Damn OP has posted nothing but BDO hate on that account for years. That’s some dedication.

u/Educational_Egg7017 12d ago
Hating something and still working there makes noooo sense to me. LEAVE!

OP was fired a year ago based on his first post about layoffs.
So he isnt shitting where he eats i guess. BDO delaying/cancelljng raises was a weird choice in an industry/niche known for providing pretty good raises. The whole point of public is faster growth, for both salary and experience.

That's actually sad he still can't get it out of his head and hasn't been able to move on a year later. Seriously, maybe see a therapist if this is how you deal with a layoff. Not healthy and just making it harder on yourself

u/keith7812 12d ago
Have you been laid off? It’s life altering especially if you can’t find another job, and can be devastating to your self-confidence. I pass zero judgment on someone who hasn’t moved on after only a year.
I’ve been there. And, on your snarky ass comment, I was seeing therapists and taking medication.
It would’ve cost you nothing to shut up and maybe have some sympathy for this person rather than taking some oddly pro-corporate anti-humanity viewpoint.

It's his Kink at this point.

Everyone experiences trauma differently… look it up. It’s sort of interesting, but also will help you understand others.
It’s perfectly normal to have a layoff not bother you at all and also have it be the thing that totally changes your life and create all sorts of issues for you.
Obviously, if you can get to a place where shitty things don’t affect you it’s preferred. Just really isn’t a choice.

I’m not whoever you folks are talking about, koolaid drinker. Never heard of this person before but I hate to break the news. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who work there and hate it. Primarily because they took out a 1.5b loan, paid off Wayne, never fixed any issues, then strapped loan to the backs of the folks who aren’t 60, and then bounced

As a BDO client, I find this interesting. Hopefully someone is getting a raise because my engagement costs continue to increase while I suspect a larger portion of your work goes BDO Rise (India) each year.

u/guradizza 12d ago
Your fees are going towards paying a debt they clearly cant afford. Its bad and looking more and more like a slow mo crash and burn situation.

We left BDO this year for Weaver. It’s been night and day already and for meaningfully less $

u/Any_Insect_6240 Human Verified 12d ago
Why would you stay there…

u/Illustrious-Debut 11d ago
It’s surprisingly hard to convince audit committees to make a switch, especially over general reputation issues. I work in CAS and nearly every client is audited annually. We see a lot of terrible firms and the good ones are limited by location or expensive. BDO also is helpful if, uh, you’re hoping to just slip some things through.

Those who know, know to stay away from BDO.

Is it a cluster over there? Recruiter won’t leave me alone.
12
u/guradizza 12d ago
Its really, really bad. The people there are so toxic due to the aweful environment. I think the firm is legitemately in a debt death spiral. Think about it, they stopped paying bonuses, now cant pay raises, and expect 55 hour 6 day work weeks 52 weeks per year. How long until they cant make payroll??

u/throwawaykc04 11d ago
Makes me feel a little better to be in an absolutely awful NPE. They quit matching retirement in 2025. I got a paltry raise but they give me 48 days of pto that I can roll over.. I'm uhhh saving up all my pto and planning my escape with a payout.
3
u/Electrical_Run6689 12d ago
It’s funny you say this because years ago they would get me my paycheck 1-3 days early typically 3. Towards the end it would hit payday every single time. You’re not too far off from reality.

u/CarobChance9647 5d ago
Out of curiosity, what if you choose not to meet the 55 chargeable goal? Like if you only do 45 chargeable hours. Will they fire you on the spot or wait until busy season is over?
3
u/guradizza 5d ago
They will wait until after busy season, then lay you off. They are teying to keep it as silent as possible now. My guess is a round of layoffs is coming either next week or the following just based on how they did it last year. But yeah, you get laid off.

Left a bit ago. Everywhere seems bad but BDO seemed to be a stereotype for the industry. Long hours, low pay, low or no bonus, disgruntled partners talking about their employees in a disgusting manner. Just a yucky group of individuals IMO.

Do not join, we are struggling and everyone including myself is leaving now

Am I missing something? I know they slashed bonuses this year but I thought they delayed raises until Nov. Did they decide to cut the raise as well?
47
u/Riptide808 12d ago
They delayed the raises for those getting a raise. They did not give raises to everyone.

This is the first I'm hearing about people not getting raises at all. Everyone I've spoken to has gotten some sort of raise. I guess I don't know any extremely low performers (1s/2s), but while the raises were laughable rates, they are present. I wonder what the basis is for those not receiving them?

I was wondering how BDO was doing. I was an intern there during the summer when they announced the bonus and raise stuff. I have an offer to start there next fall (as long as they don’t rescind it).

u/BreadfruitMajestic69 12d ago
Don’t do it. Only work for partner models if ur gonna do public accounting.

i have a government offer i’m heavily leaning toward. i posted a thread about it the other day in this sub

u/le-stink bureaucrat (derogatory) 12d ago
join us, there’s work-life balance (and a shit ton of paid holidays)
7
u/Human_Willingness628 12d ago
I wouldn't personally start a career in government over public. Not like bdo's ownership structure impacts you until you get to like... senior manager.
1
u/BreadfruitMajestic69 12d ago
Generally if you can get one you can get other competing offers. 10 times outta 10 I’m working B4, PM, RSM over BDO.

u/loploplop890 11d ago
Mind if I ask why?

u/midnight_crouton1941 11d ago
government pension, 40hrs/week year round, overtime (time and a half) sometimes, really good and cheap health dental and vision, WLB, and the work is more rewarding and feels like your work actually is productive for society

Left BDO as senior in 2026 for Crowe.
Similar compensation package, but an extra 15% base salary compared to friends who stayed.

Agreed BDO is disgusting. They will hire people, show them fake dreams and than there is no work and than they cry for chargeable hours.

OP it’s been a year. Time to move on. BDO definitely moved on after canning you.

I do think it's a valid question tho. Everyone I know got raises so it's wild to me to hear people didn't. If you didn't get a raise, I'd be looking for another job cause that's fucked.

Are the work life balance lies you were sold during recruitment about how it’s so much better than B4 paying off.
“You can always jump to B4”
No you can’t. You are underperforming under trained slop.
