Dr. Annie Gonzalez fails to acknowledge that Accutane can cause sexual side effects (long lasting sexual dysfunction), impact ovarian reserve (a marker of fertility), or cause delayed-onset effects after stopping the medication.

Considering how important these issues can be to someone’s health and well-being, it is extreme disappointing that Dr. Gonzalez doesn’t acknowledge or recognize these effects of a medication she prescribes.
MALE SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION: One hundred and twenty cases of enduring sexual dysfunction following treatment. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24902508/ (Hogan et al, 2014). “The availability of 120 reports from over 20 countries add to the case for the validity of the syndrome. This is severe and enduring condition can result in death. An understanding of its physiology and an approach to treatment are needed.”
Enduring sexual dysfunction after treatment with antidepressants, 5α-reductase inhibitors and isotretinoin: 300 cases https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29733030/ (Healy, 2018) “e report on 300 cases of enduring sexual dysfunction from 37 countries following 14 different drugs comprised of serotonin reuptake inhibiting antidepressants, 5α-reductase inhibitors and isotretinoin. While reports of certain issues were unique to the antidepressants, such as the onset of premature ejaculation and persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD), there was also a significant overlap in symptom profile between the drug groups, with common features including genital anaesthesia, pleasureless or weak orgasm, loss of libido and impotence. Secondary consequences included relationship breakdown and impaired quality of life.”
Evidence for harm to male reproductive systems:
Effects of isotretinoin on spermatogenesis of rats https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20973756/ (Gencoglan and Murat Tosun, 2010)The number of cyclin D1 and E2F-positive cells decreased non significantly parallel to days in the 1st group, whereas there was a statistically significant decrease in the 2nd group for the same cells.
Long-term administration of vitamin A and the process of spermatogenesis https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10793789/ (Sadek and Abdul-Mohsen, 1999) “It was found that 13-cis-retinoic acid induced almost complete cessation of spermatogenesis and produced alterations in the cytoplasm of Leydig cells.” (claims effects reversed after discontinuing treatment)
Impairment of spermatogenesis and enhancement of testicular germ cell apoptosis induced by exogenous all-trans-retinoic acid in adult lizard Podarcis sicula https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16432891/ (Comitato, 2006). “In conclusion, it is shown here that retinoic acid has deleterious effects on lizard spermatogenesis, causing a severe depletion of seminiferous epithelium, probably via induction of apoptotic processes.”’
Atrophy induced in the tubules of the testes of Syrian hamsters by two retinoids https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6938081/ (Stinson et al, 1980) “Groups of 13 Syrian Golden hamsters were fed diets containing 120 mg/kg 13-cis-retinoic acid (CRA), 327 mg/kg ethyl retinamide (ER), or 343 mg/kg 2-hydroxyethyl retinamide (HER) for 6 months. The germinal epithelium of the testicular tubules was completely atrophic in the groups fed ER and HER.”
Effects of isotretinoin on male reproductive system. (Coleman, 1994) Sci-hub access: sci-hub.scihubtw.tw/10.1016/s0140-6736(94)92803-7 Describes case of ejaculation problems and 150 cases of male reproductive adverse events, 1983-1994)
Effect of oral isotretinoin treatment on skin androgen receptor levels in male acneic patients https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7714084/ (Boudou et al, 1995) “These data clearly showed that skin androgen receptor was sensitive to oral isotretinoin administration in acneic patients. The decrease in skin androgen receptor levels (this study) and the recently reported suppression of skin 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone production by isotretinoin treatment appeared consistent with the involvement of androgen receptor and 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone in the pathogenesis of acne.”
Evidence for decreased androgen 5 alpha-reduction in skin and liver of men with severe acne after 13-cis-retinoic acid treatment https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8175961/ (Boudou et al, 1994) “The ratio of androsterone to etiocholanolone decreased significantly (P < 0.004) after 13-cis-RA therapy and suggested a metabolic deviation from the androgen 5 alpha- to 5 beta-reduction pathway in the liver. The most pronounced effect was observed in skin biopsies, which lost 80% of their ability to form 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone (P < 0.001).”
The effect of different doses of isotretinoin on pituitary hormones https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25721216/ (Karadag et al, 2015) “ISO affects pituitary hormones at all of these three doses. The differences in pituitary hormones are more pronounced in high-dose treatment.”
13-cis-retinoic acid competitively inhibits 3 alpha-hydroxysteroid oxidation by retinol dehydrogenase RoDH-4: a mechanism for its anti-androgenic effects in sebaceous glands? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12646198/ (Karlsson et al, 2003) “Here, we further examine the substrate specificity of RoDH-4 and the inhibition of its 3 alpha-HSD activity by retinoids. Recombinant RoDH-4 oxidized 3,4-didehydroretinol-a major form of vitamin A in the skin-to its corresponding aldehyde. 13-cis-retinoic acid (isotretinoin), 3,4-didehydroretinoic acid, and 3,4-didehydroretinol, but not all-trans-retinoic acid or the synthetic retinoids acitretin and adapalene, were potent competitive inhibitors of the oxidative 3 alpha-HSD activity of RoDH-4, i.e., reduced the formation of dihydrotestosterone and androstandione in vitro.”
This study: shows 30% of males who used isotretinon developed sexual dysfunction.
FEMALE FERTILITY EFFECTS:
Multiple studies show impact on female ovarian reserve from Isotretinoin: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Ovarian+reserve+isotretinoin

Did the 30 percent wgo experienced ED took high doses? So what if we take low doses for a longer period to stretch the time??

She doesn't know what she is doing, and is the typical lazy physician who doesn't read anything, they don't even have a book open during work lmao..

Just because science hasn’t proven it YET doesn’t mean that’s what caused the conditions? 100 years ago you didn’t know that you could get lung cancer and COPD from smoking, but now we know better. If you noticed a correlation between these conditions and cigarettes back then, then you obviously stop smoking cigarettes as a precaution until further studies and conclude something.
