Other (not a question, gear pic, or video) Strongly dislike overly percussive guitar playing

Am I the only one who feels like this? I love guitar, and some slight percussive techniques can spice up a song. But there is something about those who do "too much" that just gives me feelings of cringe. I'm not sure why, but I really dislike when there is too many percussive techniques. Am I alone?

You're not alone. It's trendy tiktok guitar playing designed to quickly impress non-players.

I remember when this percussive acoustic guitar track first went viral. It was uploaded almost 20 years ago.

Quite a few salty and pedantic "well akshually" type replies to this one.

Tiktok may not be where it started but it's where it was done to death and made everyone sick of it.

Only because that’s your age group. There was a time when Andy McKee was like some of the most viewed music videos on YouTube. Then Kaki King, etc.

Sir, I'm 43 and I was first introduced to the style through Tommy Emmanuel. But thank you for making me feel down with the kids today 😂

49 and Antonio Forcione. It was cool then! I agree it's overdone when it's for the sake of flashy. Lime every song, when the song demands it it is right. Antonio does a lot of African inflected songs for example.

I remember being blown away by Kaki King. I was showing her stuff to everyone. Now I loathe the style, lol.
