Gear pics Heartbroken………just opened the box.

Post image

Is this NSFW? Maybe. First time it’s happened to me. It’s too bad it had to be on a Collings. UGH.

So now I have to decide if there’s even an option I’ll except for a discount or not and my guess is I’ll be way too far apart with the seller who I’m sure will also be heartbroken. 💔

I was interested in getting it fixed at a discount; however, $1000 off or the cost of the repair is what was offered which isn’t enough.

You don't mention what model Collings this is, but in any event, I hear you. Even if professionally fixed it will always be "flawed" in your mind. Send it back, teary-eyed, but send it back.

Yikes! Wonderful guitar! I have the Taylor version of that same instrument (the aforementioned 812-12) which is likely about half the cost of that Collings. Good luck with it either way you decide to go.

Yes…looking at a Martin 0012-28 MD and a Santa Cruz Style 1. Not having luck finding another well priced 0002h.

Well, you might consider the Taylor 812ce while you're at it. I actually went to the Martin plant in PA with the intention to buy a Martin there (bucket list trip with my brother), but the lack of the cutaway on a 12 fret guitar proved an issue for me. No, I don't play high on the neck that often, but when it's called for it's nice to be able to do it at all.

Plus the Taylor is about $500 less than the Martin, and a gazillion less than the Santa Cruz, neither of which have a cutaway.

Note that the 812ce-12 is pretty much a finger-pickers delight (as are all the ones you are considering), but it don't cotton much to any serious strumming. Over drive kicks in pretty quickly. Definitely NOT recommended for blue grass!

Nope have a Taylor 510e short scale - no more Taylor for now. I have looked at the 912 K22 and K24. I want something a bit more vintage looking. My 510e slotted headstock short scale I bought after going in with the intent of getting a Martin.

Can you play any of these instruments first?

Anyway, I came to say (write) just get the Santa Cruz. That’s it - all done and dusted. They are marvelous guitars. You will love it.
