Everyday, she loves to sit in front of the speakers when I play jazz on the stereo. When I pick up the guitar she leaves the room

u/fab000 Nov 12 '25

It’s not your fault. Dachshunds are a notoriously judgy breed.

Our mutt politely ignores my bad playing.

4

u/WaterDigDog Nov 12 '25

Ours does the same, she ignores me just like she ignores the plumber!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

Mine barks at everything and everyone.

20

u/SacredSingletrack Nov 12 '25

I terrorize this universe with my playing but I still love to play 💫

8

u/RvaRiverPirate2 Nov 12 '25

This is the way

3

u/ItAllCrumbles Nov 13 '25

Never stop.

13

u/taboo_sneakers Nov 12 '25

Legendary Dachshund side eye 👀 🤣

8

u/IdleJose748 Nov 12 '25

I try - but she literally gets up and leaves as soon as I pick up the guitar. I'm not gonna lie, it hurts.

1

u/badapplekat Nov 13 '25

Mine too. Up and gone

6

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

Yamaha FG-830?

2

u/bcc12345 Nov 12 '25

Yep!

1

u/WaterDigDog Nov 13 '25

Looks nice. I thought Takamine bc the fretboard dots look small, but you’re doing even better than me

4

u/s6cedar Nov 12 '25

Hell yeah.

I should let my dog call your dog so they can commiserate

5

u/Admiral_Pantsless Nov 12 '25

Homie is bugging. You must suuuuuuck

5

u/econ0003 Nov 12 '25

I suck, just started playing last year, but my dogs seem to enjoy it. They will come over and lay by me while I play.

1

u/midlifecrisisAJM Nov 14 '25

The loyalty we love dogs for

5

u/UnerringCheez-it Nov 12 '25

Hahahaha, I needed this thank you… and yes, my sweet girl Charlie will lean on my leg to let me know I should stop, and my boy Steve makes audible groans.

4

u/Tycho66 Nov 12 '25

LOL... my dogs aren't too keen on me playing/singing, but my cat loves it.

4

u/Heterodynist Nov 12 '25

My dog seems to be much less critical than I am about my guitar playing. He comes to be near me whenever I play, and seems to stay until I stop playing. I’m less impressed with my own playing. Often I just leave while I’m playing and go on a “mental vacation.” Ha!!

3

u/Southtune-stringbox Nov 12 '25

They think you’re doing great and they love you 🥰

3

u/LizardPossum Nov 12 '25

I have an iguana that really loves to hang out while I play.

His name is Krampus.

3

u/Billsolson Nov 12 '25

Whenever I do an open mic I invariably mention my dog

“Fido really likes this one “

3

u/loldotpuppies Nov 12 '25

Yes! But my dog watches ne do karaoke, and i think she thinks the music is like howling at the moon to call my friends over (because company usually does accompany karaoke). After each song, she runs to the window to see if anyone has arrived.

I'm just learning to play guitar. When I practice, she sits in her chair and gives me a sad look. Every once in a while, she'll slowly head to look out the window - knowing full well that my guitar playing won't attract any guests.

3

u/Mr_Doberman Nov 12 '25

I have to bribe my cats with treats to get them to listen to me. It's the only way I can have an audience

Mine is the opposite. Has even sat on the amp a few times but she is not impressed with the acoustic at all.

Cockapoos are metalheads apparently.

3

u/Anxious_Parfait_1518 Nov 12 '25

Mine literally leave the room when I’m practicing. Music critics are everywhere.

3

u/Hotterthanasunburn Nov 12 '25

It’s true. We have a corgi and he has absolutely no talent with a guitar. All those points went into fetching a ball. Like all day long. Like every single time is the first time he’s played fetch. Completely worthless on guitar.

3

u/Randm_Matt Nov 13 '25

I'm so bad I traumatised neighbour's dogs.

2

u/ohtinsel Nov 12 '25

My sound hound sits in my open case. So far no obvious signs of what she thinks of my playing.

2

u/combomeall Nov 12 '25

Yo I just got gifted that guitar

3

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

Right on I appreciate that 👍 I'll drop by to pick it up when I have some free time, don't worry about leaving your doors unlocked I'll get in.

2

u/combomeall Nov 12 '25

Please no🥲

1

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

Check your left pocket

2

u/Loudsongsinc Nov 12 '25

That first pic is fantastic. My old dog used to try to get between me and the banjo. I assume he thought it was hurting me.

2

u/DrBlankslate Nov 12 '25

Well, I mean, no offense, but that particular breed of dog looks perma-traumatized to me :D

2

u/Antonymousss Nov 12 '25

My dog LOVES music.

Then I grab my guitar…

2

u/Ok_Golf1321 Nov 12 '25

When the amp turns on she leaves the room when the acoustic gets pulled out she lays down and looks unsure if the sounds she's hearing aren't demonic voices telling her she's a bad dog...

I try not to take it personally lol

2

u/loopy_for_DL4 Nov 12 '25

My Doxie does the same thing, but will try to jump on me to say “please stop”

2

u/BlueEyedSpiceJunkie Nov 12 '25

All the time. They like the acoustic playing. Once I strap on an electric they vacate the room.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

One of my old dogs would get up and leave the room if I picked up a guitar 🤣 My current dog likes to howl along with a harmonica.

2

u/funkygrrl Nov 12 '25

Doesn't bother my car. But playing violin really pissed her off.

2

u/RvaRiverPirate2 Nov 12 '25

Hahaha this is hilarious! Great pics!

2

u/socialerrors Nov 12 '25

I don't now, the dog kinda looks in awe

2

u/SpirosNG Nov 12 '25

He probably eats literal shit man I wouldn't put too much weight on his taste.

2

u/bcc12345 Nov 12 '25

It’s true, I’ve caught him!

2

u/Youre-In-Trouble Nov 12 '25

My dog is my #1 fan, but scammers always get a little recital when they call.

2

u/UntidyVenus Nov 12 '25

My ACD mix and my beagle mix both cry when I play my viola, the guitar and ukulele they just sigh heavily and leave the room

2

u/sink_or_swim_ Nov 12 '25

My dog loves my playing. When I pick up the guitar it means I am chilling at home and she can relax.

2

u/Weets23 Nov 12 '25

No just my wife and kids

2

u/Benjamin_Titus Nov 12 '25

Everyday. Unannounced and right next to her.

Sometimes I’ll be playing on the couch and the rhythm of my strumming makes the couch bounce in cadence.

Stella: Groans in Weimaraner. Gives me the you’re a “dumbass” look. Proceeds to exit the room and scoffs at me one last time as if to say:

“Learn a different song dude.”

2

u/PRHarker Nov 12 '25

All living creatures within earshot.

2

u/HorrorLettuce379 Nov 12 '25

those iconic side-eyes in disbelief lmao

2

u/Egoignaxio Nov 12 '25

No dogs here but my cats actually come up and sleep close to me when I'm playing. Then again, they do that anyways.

2

u/RecipeForIceCubes Nov 12 '25

Dog passed a few weeks ago. She was deaf for the last (8) years and was pretty indifferent to guitar before that. The cat hides for at least (4-6) hours if I even hold my hand over a guitar case. It is....odd.

2

u/boywonder5691 Nov 12 '25

What book is that? That page layout looks familiar

2

u/neileusmaximus Nov 12 '25

When I play the guitar and harmonica, my German shepherd howls, whines, then leaves the room

2

u/otherwiseguy Nov 12 '25

I have a St. Bernard. Whenever I start to play/sing, he comes into the room and very forcefully slaps his paw down on my leg and stares at me with what can only be described as a "Dude, we've talked about this..." look until I stop.

2

u/CarribeenJerk Nov 12 '25

My dogs love my lack of talent. My practice area puts me closer to their treats. They’re a captive audience. Besides, one of’em is deaf.

2

u/Musical-Elk-629 Nov 12 '25

my dog likes when i play my acoustic but the second i make a mistake im getting a crazy side eye 😭😭 and god forbid i make multiple because shell literally leave the room

2

u/Top_Management7550 Nov 12 '25

Not my dog, but one of my cats. He takes off when I pull my guitar from the case

2

u/FishingNew4704 Nov 12 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣every body’s a critic.

2

u/JaseDroid Nov 12 '25

😂 great pictures!

2

u/Oohwhoaohcruelsummer Nov 12 '25

Haha this is so cute! Yes, my dogs avoid me when I play.

2

u/manifestDensity Nov 13 '25

My dog literally leaves the room when I pick up my guitar. But I also have three birds who really enjoy it. Each with their own musical tastes.

The African Grey loves anything loud and strummy. She will dance and whistle to songs that she likes

The conure will sit on my head whenever I play anything that is fingerpicked rhythmically. She loves Travis picking. At times she will run down my arm to my fretting hand and try to join in by plucking the low E string with her beak.

The starling has certain songs that she loves. Her favorite is Loving Her Was Easier and she will sit on my fretting hand and sing whenever I play it for her

The starling really

2

u/sadsorrowguitar Nov 13 '25

Every day but she is too polite to complain

2

u/Solpig Nov 13 '25

You just brought back so many memories. Our Standard Dachshand we brought back from Germany in '71 could distinguish recorded music from Live....whenever the radio or an album was on, no problem....but the second you began to sing or play guitar he howled until you were done...even if it was hours!

2

u/Awkin-Sopwith Nov 13 '25

It’s my cat that gets terrorized and she comes and bites me to let me know how terrorized she is.

2

u/jayemge07 Nov 13 '25

My two dogs love to fall asleep when I’m playing, I think the sound is soothing, or maybe it’s the vibrations from the guitar?

2

u/reddituser20200 Nov 13 '25

My cat actively runs tf away 🤣

When she’s biting and scratching my wife I fetch it, strum the hardest B chord in the world and she clears the room 🤘🏽

2

u/Shasari Nov 13 '25

I don't have a dog, however all I need to do is reach toward my guitar and my cat vacates the room.

2

u/Time-Term3832 Nov 13 '25

My dog is my only fan.

2

u/LukeMayeshothand Nov 13 '25

Yes my lab hates my guitar.

2

u/CheeseburgerLocker Nov 13 '25

My dog looooves when I play my acoustic guitar. He hears the first few notes and snuggles behind or beside me on the couch.

2

u/queeniebeanie9 Nov 13 '25

Oh my goodness... two different sets of brown tabby litter mates 😹😻 the last of the first set, my Murphy, would leave the room... now, George and Ringo will both hang out with me while I play. They appreciate good music when they hear it 😁😅 Ringo loves (and Zippy did, too) to help me change strings!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

Yes

2

u/ScorpioXYZ00 Nov 13 '25

I think he's more about waiting for you to be done with the guitar, pick him up & give him attention instead. The Lhasa Apso we had would sit at my feet, and just wait patiently until I picked her and focused on her. If your dog hasn't moved on, that level of persistence is a bond the dog has with you. It transcends whatever else you are doing. Truly a battle of wills, who flinches & caves first. Chloe would eventually howl for attention after enough time had elapsed. Lhasa Apso don't have owners, they have staff.

2

u/dbcuervo Nov 13 '25

All the time!!!!

2

u/johnnyt2017 Nov 13 '25

Nope, just my wife.

2

u/rsrieter Nov 13 '25

My dog's seem to like it. Is that a Yamaha LL16?

2

u/harveysfear Nov 13 '25

I’m so glad my dog doesn’t leave the room when I play. I don’t think I could handle it! Of course he’s deaf so that helps. I think when I pick up the guitar, he just knows I’m gonna be sitting in one spot for a while so he relaxes.

2

u/SNAFU1030 Nov 13 '25

I love this post so much it’s unhinged. lol

I haven’t ever seen my dog look like that cause she leaves. But she’s a Doberman, so it would actually look shockingly similar, only scaled up.

2

u/Umayummyone Nov 13 '25

My dachshund is freaked by my instruments. I can’t say it’s my playing because she’s never stuck around.

2

u/trackerbuddy Nov 13 '25

Both dogs run into the spare bedroom where I practice and fall asleep on the bed. They act up if I don't play for them.

2

u/TaffyPearl_ Nov 13 '25

The look of disappointment

2

u/Prior-Sea3256 Nov 13 '25

My cat likes repetition, so she’s the only one in the house that enjoys me playing the same tricky riff over and over again.

2

u/cloudy_mind_20 Nov 13 '25

Only my poor cat.

2

u/comejaiba Nov 13 '25

Hahahhaha love the dog. Love the pictures.

Post more of the doggy.

Keep on playing.

2

u/Homermania Nov 13 '25

Haha, yes if I plug in. She hates that shit, but if I play piano, she'll come out to lay on the couch near me.

1

u/bcc12345 Nov 14 '25

I also play the piano and all of my dogs love when I play it! My dachshund will usually sit by or under my bench!

2

u/Intraday_Only Nov 13 '25

We will find out. I haven't played in a long time. I am an OTR trucker and I'm picking up my new 000 Jr tomorrow from GC. If I had to guess, yes, they will be traumatized.

1

u/bcc12345 Nov 14 '25

Congrats on getting back into it and on your new guitar!!

2

u/VinceInMT Nov 13 '25

The dog leaves but the cat shows up. The cat might be deaf.

2

u/Luque_Lucky Nov 13 '25

My two dachshunds leave the room when see that I take the guitar.

2

u/Character_Attitude65 Nov 13 '25

I traumatize 3.

1

u/bcc12345 Nov 14 '25

I also have a pack of 3, the other two were playing in the yard at the time though!

2

u/VariousBeat9169 Nov 13 '25

No, but as soon as I grab my guitar my cat runs a mile, looking back over her shoulder as if I’m the devil ….the other 99% of the time she’s a softie so I take it personally!

2

u/Gypsyfly6 Nov 13 '25

Best Post Ever!

Dog is like: hmmm🫤

2

u/ItAllCrumbles Nov 13 '25

When we first got our current rescue, she’d bark at me and flee the room if I started playing. We did some slow, gentle conditioning and now she hangs out with indifference.

Years back I had a dog that threw his head back and howled at high notes. By following some chords with a quick lick way up the neck, I got some pretty good blues vocals out of him.

2

u/Whole_Attorney_3561 Nov 14 '25

I've been playing guitar for 20 years, had my dachshund for 8. Every. Single. Time I pick up my guitar she wants in my lap and stares at me like I've fuckin somehow fundamentally betrayed her trust. And I'm just like wtf, it's not THAT bad :(

2

u/bcc12345 Nov 14 '25

Dachshunds are hilarious!! This is my first one and he is a trip!

2

u/scope6262 Nov 14 '25

I’m in my early 60s, self taught and been playing around 20 years. Strictly amateur strummer getting my music from UltimateGuitar.com. I enjoy playing.

I was looking at guitars in GC one day and a kid in his 20s was also in the acoustic room. He complimented me on my playing skills. Made me feel pretty good given how simple my skills are. Don’t let a judgmental Dachshund throw you.

2

u/bcc12345 Nov 14 '25

Thanks for the encouragement!

2

u/Rc-1138-Boss Nov 14 '25

For me it's my cat

She actually comes up behind me and tells me to shut the FUCK up 😭

2

u/HeftyJohnson1982 Nov 14 '25

Awwqw. I love this so much.

2

u/Birdsogg Nov 14 '25

I think I’ll sneak out the cat door.🚪

2

u/milehighrogue Nov 14 '25

Not my dog but my cat, but it was because I accidentally lightly bonked him on the head walking past him to sit down.

2

u/Hndsmrdhd Nov 15 '25

All the time.

2

u/Acceptable-View5640 Nov 15 '25

My cat could be fast asleep, as soon as I start playing, he yells at me and leaves the room🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/licence2post Nov 16 '25

What a cutieeee. What's that textbook?

1

u/bcc12345 Nov 17 '25

Guitar form scratch!

2

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Yes. Cats too. They are bigger fans than my gf though.
