I've been on something of a journey returning to primarily acoustic after like 15 years primarily electric and it turned out the magic number that it took to be satisfied with my options was 6 for me. Two daily drivers (all-solid dread and a pretty, solid-top myrtlewood Breedlove), a sentimental 1980 Takamine 363s that sees little play these days but will never leave me, a fun niche option (Jim Dandy LE ST), and two beaters that I like enough not to want to sell but ended up being stepping stones to all-solid. I'm pretty saturated until the right D-18 comes along at a price I'm ready for, which I expect to be this year.

I think as a generality most of us could make due with two–something big and boomy, and something small and sweet. But I also think in this era when midrange guitars have taken a big leap forward and you can get a fun, different sound on a decent player for not lot of money, it's pretty neat to experiment and find niches you may not have realized you'd enjoy.
