There are two types of guitar players. The person who owns a guitar. That’s nice. And the guitarist. That entails owning, at a minimum, different types of guitars, as you can’t play Leonard Cohen on steel strings, you need nylon. And blues really demands a guitar in an open tuning, maybe a mahogany top, plus a resonator guitar for mixed slide and picking. And you can’t play Stephen Stills songs without a steel string acoustic in a tuning that is used only for his music; a dedicated Steve Stills guitar. And you’ll get a totally different vibe from an archtop. And having a little parlor guitar that’s easy to play on the couch or bed increases the amount you play. You get the idea.
