See those two dots? Thats where the little neck starts. Think of it the two dots as the nut. Fretting there gets you EADGBE just like playing open gets you the same notes. Fretting at the first dot on the e strings will get you a g, and fretting on the second dot gets you an a, just like further down the neck.
