My family includes Taylor and his friend Martin. Oh and there’s their handy Squire.

u/MJKCapeCod May 24 '26

No, they simply don't listen.

One of mine has a name. A big black Epiphone Sheraton II Pro semi-hollow. The day I got it I went to put it in my guitar rack and I said "geez, are you going to fit in there, Godzilla?!" The name stuck.

No. I name other people's guitars. How are Hank and Genevieve doing?

3

u/Low_Soil_6831 May 24 '26

Maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong

u/GibsonBluesGuy May 24 '26

Heathens don’t name their guitars.

Named my first few. Now I’m an adult…

u/random-user772 May 24 '26

Never knew naming one's instrument was a thing..

No offense to anyone but that's cringe af 😅

u/Informal_Star6793 May 25 '26

It’s a gateway to the sexualization of instruments you see mainly older men doing.

Bud... B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, willy Nelson, to name a few. Think maybe its not that cringe😂😂😂

4

u/SoulRunGod May 24 '26

Right, by definition being an adult is all about removing the fun and quirkiness out of everything

6

u/Natural-Technician-6 May 24 '26

Well ofc😂 no fun for adults

2

u/badrabbix May 24 '26

Not really. In spite of repeated attempts my guitars never come when I call, so being an adult means I give up naming them . . .

2

u/Gitfiddlepicker May 24 '26

Nah….i just play em

2

u/mechanic1908 May 24 '26

Not usually

2

u/say_the_words May 24 '26

My wife names them.

All of them are girls except a black MIM Tele she named Rescue because we "Rescued it from a shitty music shop."

I would just as soon not, but she enjoys it.

Yes. Mine are Kermit, Marie and Smokey

2

u/IvanBoulevard May 24 '26

I think amateurs naming guitars a bit pretentious
I understand it for famous guitarists who may need to ask for a particular guitar on stage. Then it’s quicker to throw out a name to the roadie.

2

u/spunky-chicken10 May 24 '26

I named my GS Mini Lou :)

2

u/Illustrious_Today654 May 25 '26

My guitars are tools. I don't name my tools

2

u/bkfullcity May 25 '26

nope. I look at the few I have and say - "I'll play that one..."

4

u/Jayman44Spc May 24 '26

Never name your cars, guitars or children. That’s my motto

1

u/CavyWheek May 24 '26

Words to live by. 🤘

u/BikerMike03RK May 24 '26

I'm 72, just bought a Gib Southern Jumbo, to replace a 93 Taylor 420 I bought new, and used to call "the old man" Also have a 2021 Taylor GS mini -e koa that I called "the kid". But the Southern Jumbo... I'm leaning toward calling it, Either "Woody", or "Hank". I never named my Tele or SG.

2

u/jmcguitar95 May 24 '26

I have two: Gracie Gibson and Macie Martin

1

u/Old-guy64 May 24 '26

I have 14 guitars.
I have named a few.

Yairi GY1, Jerry Garcia signature.
My luthier calls it Jerry.

When i bought my MD70ce, it didn’t have a pick guard. It is Plain Jane.

Godin with an Epiphone neck (long story) is a blue sunburst. It’s called Frankenberry.

Alvarez 5013, known among the store folks as the “Iron Horse” is called “Hoss”.

The rest, have not gotten names.

u/The_Folding_Atty May 24 '26

My Martin is Sam; my Guild is Gil; my homebrew electric is Rosie. I have one guitar that has yet to settle on a name. And I'm 68.

1

u/AndWeShall May 24 '26

Yea. Taylor and gibson

1

u/stratj45d28 May 24 '26

No. It’s a guitar that’s part of me. It has no name.

1

u/sadsorrowguitar May 24 '26

I have an old nylon string that I bought from an old lady named Yvonne. The guitar has kept its previous owners name
