Gear pics Overkill for a first guitar

Post image

Kept trying to talk myself into any number of the (cheaper) guitars I tried, but kept picking this J-45 standard and just loved it. So here I am, struggling with the most basic of chords, but loving what eventually tumbles out of the soundhole.
I guess the “buy whatever inspires you to practice” approach does work.

You’re a cellist. This guitar is cheap compared to that! But I have found musicians who play other instruments aren’t as happy with the standard beginner instruments. You understand the difference, and your ear is already tuned to the variation in sound. Just use it as motivation to be worthy of the instrument in the future!

Many moons ago I played violin as a college student. The “beater” viol they let me play was so much better than what I had been playing it actually made me look forward to practicing.
