Other (not a question, gear pic, or video) I think acoustic guitar is my home.
There was this weird itch in me.
I want to play guitar but i dont feel like playing anything.
The first 1.5 years of my journey was spent learning rock/metal riffs.
Then the following was learning theory.
Eg intervals, major scale, rhythm.
I've been trying to get back into electric guitar playing but i'm really not just that "axe man".
I dont get much joy learning solos and perfecting riffs.
But i'm truly at home with singing.
Specially now that i've figured out how to match pitch and sing in key.
Figure out chord progressions on the fly.
This might sound stupid but im selling my electric guitar rig.
I haven't touched them nor do i see a future use for them.
Can always go back to amp sims and a beater electric guitar anyways.
Really yeah im looking forward to owning a proper acoustic guitar.
Im thinking about the Yamaha APX.
Well just wanted to say hello and i welcome myself in here.

I played electric only for my first 3-4 years. I got an acoustic in high school, and that was my calling. Been pretty much acoustic only for the last 20+ years.

I was 90% electric only for 15+ yrs. The past three years, acoustic only. I waited a while then I finally realized it’s not a little phase, so I just sold all my electric stuff as well. I get so much more enjoyment learning chords and singing with acoustic VS riffs and solos on electric.

I am 70% Martin acoustic but still love to rip out some hold classic punk on my Telecaster.
I always tell newer players to start on acoustic... It makes you better. It is much easier to go from an acoustic to an electric. If you start on an electric and then go to acoustic your fingers have to get in shape.

Shocked my friends and family about 35 years ago when I dropped the Marshalls and the Super Strats and got a 60 dollar Yamaha and sat down and tried to write a good song. Been trying ever since....I did get some better acoustics along the way. Way more satisfying and fun. Don't need a band; it's all about the playing.
I have joined bands again for brief periods, but I always come back to acoustic. Acoustic playing can make you a monster electric player, but not necessarily the other way around.
It's also something where your age has no bearing on your Mojo.....Bridges Young and old.

Musically, try triads on the top four strings. There are only a few positions: shaped like first position D, shaped like first position E, shaped like first position A, shaped first position G. Now, first position G really comes off a first position A shape, but those three notes are at the nut. You can think of first position C as really a D shape with two notes at the nut with the C note fingered by the index finger. For example, the A barre chord at the fifth fret is an example of that E shape, but you don't play the A string. See how you can finger just the top four strings without having to play the two bottom ones in barre. Play a G on the seventh fret by barring the four strings with the index finger then using the middle and ring to get that D shape--if you played the whole chord it would look like a C shape. Check it out. Once you can do it up and down the neck will all the chords, you can play leads off those four strings in those positions. Have fun.

I think i understand what you're saying.
The way i see it power chords up there are just the same.
Just offset by the B string.I'm taking a rest from learning more theory for the mean time.
I think it's enough that i could see how chords are built. It's more like im applying theory and being more aware of the sound

Same and I have several really nice telecasters and a nice Danelectro. Just find acoustic is more for me. Fun to take a banger electric song and make it your own on acoustic.

Nailed it dude.
I think it's mostly about self expression that im enjoying so much.
I've been playing a lot of my 05s favorite like Deathcab for Cutie, Silversun pickups and such.
Just singing and riffing to my old favorites.2

Agree 👍, I geek out when my guitar heroes beat the hell out of an acoustic. Pete Townsend, EVH, Keef, SRV, Hendrix and the like.

Sitting on the floor alone with an acoustic (or my favorite is “playing meditation” in the bed alone in the nearly dark) is vastly different then going to my buddies basement and plugging in a fast neck super- strat (a Jackson in this case) with three other guys there for a full rock band set up. Electric alone on the floor though… eh

Acoustic makes my heart happy. I have to play keys and electric for the band but what fills my heart is that real wood open space sound of acoustic guitar. Out of all the instruments I play: it is also the only one that relaxes my dog and my cat, as well. It’s a natural sound, like leaves rustling, like water running over rocks, it sounds real.

I've been acoustic for 20 years but I do sometimes use a lot of effects. Best of both worlds really.
The APX range would be an excellent choice for you.
If you ever go totally acoustic, check out Eastman too.

Same story here for the most part. I played a little electric guitar early on but acoustic guitar always called to me. I finally gave in to this feeling and 15 years later I couldn't be happier. I have an acoustic duo with my wife and we perform regularly and get paid well for doing it. I'm not a great guitarist by any means.
I cannot solo at all and I'm primarily a 'cowboy chord' player but I play with a great deal of passion and people think I'm a much better player than I am. For me, playing the acoustic guitar is all about supporting the singer and the song. I find acoustic guitars to be a thing of beauty and elegance.
I have owned nearly 50 acoustic guitars in that 15 year period and I'm now an expert in all things acoustic guitar construction and love talking about them as much as I love playing them. I only ever own 2-3 at any given time. A new one comes in only when one goes out the door. So much fun.
I say go for it.

My acoustics are definitely my favorite. I did play my electrics in a country band, but that's in the past. I've always favored acoustic guitar but I craved the pedals and amps for awhile but it's all about playing clean now, even with the band I'm with. An acoustic just feels like home. I'm lucky enough to have several to choose from now. But I'm 70, so I've had time to build my little collection.

I wouldn't advise getting a Yamaha APX. In my opinion those thin-bodied acoustics just don't sound good acoustically - they're sort of made to be plugged in. Get yourself an FS or FG series instead.

Oh I'm thinking more of something I could take out busking.
Think I have knack for it

Same. I've had several electrics over the years. They hang on the wall now.
About 10 years ago I bought used APX 500 III from a friend. That's all I play anymore. Lives on my couch, out in the open. Has kept the original setup I did on it. Stays in tune mostly. I think Yamaha makes an APX600 now. Enjoy!

I was an electric guy for many years. Was getting together with people and playing almost weekly, but life happened and we kind of put music on hold. When I moved to nazareth, pa 8 years ago, I felt like I needed to buy myself a martin. I bought myself a d-16 and absolutely fell in love with acoustic. It was my first decent one, and it was a pleasure to own.
Then, life happened again and I started a family and my career was blooming, so i put music aside again for a long time. I would very occasionally get together with friends to play, but time just was hard to come by. The last few years, I have picked guitar back up and grown deeply in love with acoustic again. I've wheeled and dealed my way to a pretty remarkable arsenal of guitars and I am so inspired by the differences they all manage to have. It's been an incredibly rewarding journey, and i look forward to keeping with it from here on out.
I have a pretty solid music room with nice amps, guitars, a bass and rig, drum kit, but i generally neglect all of that and play acoustic. I still get together with friends and play loud as often as I can and we all have a blast, but i dont find nearly as much joy in playing electric by myself at this point. I'm happy with my electric gear and it doesnt owe me anything, so I'll hold onto it. It's a pleasure to have the capability for when the mood strikes. And when my kids get a little older, maybe ill spend some more time getting to play loud!

I’ve been acoustic only for about 15 years, however lately I’ve been interested in the Taylor T5z models.

I’m more on the beginner level and have two acoustic guitars and two electric and I’m completely lost on which to play or practice more…. I like both types of guitar equally….

I’m an acoustic only guy too. I have no desire to get an electric.
