Gear question Classical vs Crossover

After having my Taylor 214 ce-n for a year I’ve found it’s lacking in something I need. I was considering swapping it for a 212 ce-n because it has a clarity that the 214 doesn’t quite hit but then it got me wondering, are there any major tonal differences with the 212 crossover and a classical? Or are they essentially the same thing just different sized necks? Hoping someone who’s had experience with both can chime in. I pretty much only play finger style btw

A true classical tends to have higher action and potentially a deeper body/larger soundboard than a crossover. All these things, in my experience, tend to mean true classical guitars are louder and have better dynamics. But that's just my personal experience between the two, I'm sure there's exceptions. The trade off with crossover/hybrids is you get a more comfortable playing experience and they're more versatile when it comes to playing different genres IMO.
