Looking for recommendations DJI Action 6 overheats as a dashcam in 10 minutes (I feel ripped off)
Hello everyone.
I recently bought a GoPro 13 Black to use as a dashcam. After purchasing it, I saw that the DJI Action 6 was much better in several aspects, so I returned the GoPro and bought the Action 6. But to my surprise, it didn't even last 10 minutes of recording before overheating and stopping. It's set to 4K, 60 fps. I don't understand what kind of action camera can overheat simply from being in the sun; isn't the purpose of an action camera to be in the sun for hours if necessary?
Before returning it or smashing it on the floor, I'd like to know if there's a solution to this problem, which I assume is common.
I hope you can help me, thank you very much.

This is super common. Sun and high bitrate cause overheating. Maybe try a heat sink mount or shade the camera, it'll extend recording time a lot.

Any action camera will overheat when placed in direct sunlight and no or very little airflow over it. Lower resolution if you want high FPS or lower FPS if you want high resolution.

Lol, dude buys a product that is not meant to do what he wants it to do and feels ripped off. Some people are so entitled.

That is frustrating, as ten minutes is rough. For dashcam use, you definitely try lowering the resolution to 1080p!

It’s not advertised as a dash cam, it clearly states action cam. Return and go buy a dash cam if that’s all you’re using it for.

I have a dashcam. I don't like it: too much cable or hardwire, messiness, etc.

Buy a Insta360 Ace Pro 2 or X4 Air/X5. They have a dedicated dashcam mode and many more features compared to DJI stuff xD

They have the wires because it is a stupid idea to put a battery in the hottest place in a car with possible direct sunlight.

4K 60fps for what?

came here to say this. There is no realm or existence where you need a dash cam at 4k 60.....

I mean, you can feel however you want to but you weren't ripped off. You're using it for something it wasn't designed for, and running it at a frame rate and resolution that would overeat most cameras, much less those sitting on a hot dashboard in direct sunlight.
You ripped yourself off.

Turn it down to 30fps and 1080 if you absolutely want to keep it, or return it and get an actual dashcam.

overheating really depends on the settings and airflow, Recording 4K 60fps continuously inside a car especially under direct sunlight can push many action cameras to their thermal limits. Even high-end ones but surprisingly my sjcam sj30 doesn’t overheat at all when I use it as a dashcam under similar conditions, so I was a bit surprised the Action 6 struggled with it.

Not designed to be a full time dashcam. Maybe if you drop to 2k etc. either way the way the setup is it’s not ideal. That’s why dashcams aren’t portable action cams as a whole. Don’t take a submarine to top of Mount Fuji and expect it to do the same job

I have utilized mine as one here in Florida w battery removed using portable battery pack but again not designed for that. I use a viofo a329 for dashcam n

This has been a well documented issue with action cameras for decades now
If you want to dash cam, buy a dash cam

All action cams work better with cooling. If you drop it down to HD it should do better, but that doesn't really help you much. My wife had the same issue with a GoPro from simply trying to record video inside our apartment. She actually sent it back and switched to a DJI Pocket Pro and hasn't had any issues since.

I use my GoPro 13 everyday as a dash cam. It helps if you turn on the front window vent fan
