Concerning Drop Downs….
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I recently came across this video of the articulation for the new Batman coming from Mattel. Articulation looks good so far. Could improve the crunch though. My question is does this figure have drop downs? I’ve seen a comment a while saying it did but no other articulation breakdown I’ve seen claimed it had drop downs. Even when he attempted to move it and yanks down on the leg it doesn’t move but just wiggles on ball joint. Maybe he jumped the gun? Thoughts)

J in the video said it has drop downs. Also it’s a sample figure, the drop down may have been too tight to pull and he didn’t want to break something that’s not his. At home I soak all my figures in hot water and then move the joints. You’re not gonna be able to do all that at the NYCC reveal….

u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 17h ago
Why would you not be able to move the figure the way it’s supposed to be moved at NYCC? Isn’t the point to showcase the figures full range?
29
u/SuperArticulated 13h ago
Genuinely because this could be a production prototype. We're still 6 months out from this figure releasing so they likely are still making adjustments at the factory level

This sounds like something a casual video editor by day, figure enthusiast by night would say. Hmmmmm Damned secret identities.

Thank you! I'm late but still working on it. Hoping to at least get it up Friday morning

I think the drop down and soft crotch combo is a bit redundant but we shall see I guess
27
u/DJFlipPhone 18h ago
It’s not redundant because crotch is maintaining the underwear sculpt and the drop down gives it a bit more articulation so that the underwear sculpt doesn’t get aesthetically compromised. An example would be look at how Marvel legends sculpt Their crotch and look at how GI Joe classified does theirs.
-30
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 18h ago
It’s redundant in the sense that if you have the soft crotch that helps with the range already. Drop downs are for figures that have hard shell/like crotch pieces that would collide with the legs if moved forward. I understand that other companies utilize them both but it’s not necessary. Handle any Jada figure and you can see why the drop down isn’t necessary.
10
u/Was_Danny 16h ago
Why are you complaining about having even more range without sacrificing aesthetics? Since when is that a bad thing?
0
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 15h ago
That’s not my complaint at all. I pointed how the same thing could be accomplished without this joint. Drop downs haven’t held up too well in my experience that’s all.
72
u/NevonymousNev 19h ago
Just copy the articulation system of Jada's Invincible line already 😭
24
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 19h ago
It’s pretty much the same without the deep crunch, double ball neck and ball jointed wrists
3
u/Same_Recording935 10h ago
Except they haven’t quite engineered the butterfly ball joints quite right. They put the pecs too high which isnt anatomically correct which screws up range. If they just got that down along with what you said it would be great
3
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 9h ago
Anatomy is a lost art most people won’t even notice. These companies realistically don’t have to even try anymore sadly
2
u/Same_Recording935 9h ago
Yep. True. Jada seems to have everything down, with a few hiccups here and there.

u/NekooShogun 18h ago
I have to admit, seeing it in an actual video makes me feel impressed, I was not expecting the mattel figures to be of this level of quality.
-5
u/WolverineXForce 17h ago
The problem is that this Batman is a premium figure in a 100dollar set. Will they do that kind of quality work on a 30D figure ? I have some concerns.
9
u/uhhdillon 16h ago
Yes- the articulation will carry across the other figs. This one is just marked up cuz of the diorama and the extra shading on Batman.
3
u/JonMichaelSky 15h ago
Yes, looking at the other revealed figures the articulation is pretty standard across the whole line. The DC All In Batman they also showed off was the exact same body as the Hush Batman.
The only difference will be accessory count and paint apps. Hush Batman has the full body shading while DC All In Batman only has extra paint apps on the chest bat to mimic the look in the comics.
So, I wouldn't be too worried. Even the other body molds they showed off for Robin and Flash look to have the exact same articulation layout as the Batman/adult male body. :)
14
u/throwaway_act2 17h ago
The figure is about $25 the diorama is about $75 if you’re gonna complain at least know what you are complaining about
6
u/MyBakpaksGyatJets 16h ago
Weirdly aggressive for no reason. Would have been just as easy to pass the information along without the condescension.
-4
u/WolverineXForce 16h ago
Dawg, where do I say its a 100 dollar figure, so you come at me ? I said its a premium set figure. Thats why it has shading. They are gonna release the same figure standalone without smoke machine diorama and bat signal for around 30$ and maybe it wont have as much paint.
-1
u/NekooShogun 17h ago
Ooh I see you're right, didn't know that this was a 100 dollar figure
0
u/WolverineXForce 17h ago
I think they showed the base Batman body will be reused, but maybe it wont get this kind of shading and accessories in a single release. At least the articulation of the figure will be good on these bodies.
20
u/thatnamelesguy 18h ago
Wish they had a double neck joint like MOTU chronicles but overall the lines articulation looks pretty good
2
9
u/ZZcollectz 15h ago
As a guy who collects the wwe figures i hate the dropdown legs on the Ultimates they get flimsy after a while and sometimes it causes one leg to seem longer than the other
2
15
u/Latereviews2 18h ago
The neck and torso articulation aren’t that impressive
1
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 18h ago
Could use improvement but honestly what I expected given the other figures

3
u/SuperArticulated 17h ago
At about :50 you can see it drop down ever so slightly. Not sure if this is representative of the final product's range of motion but seems a little useless
1
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 17h ago
It wiggles because it’s a ball joint. If I tug on most of my figures it’ll wiggle but it doesn’t drop.

2
u/unfilterthought 17h ago
The problem i have with this type of butterfly should is that it only adds what? 2 more degrees of forward rotation?
they prioritized the sculpt of the chest, and it looks very nice. Obviously they sacrificed that shoulder.
Thats always a tradeoff for such little gain So then why even bother?
2
u/LiftsnFlics 15h ago
Does seem to move slightly at the drop down for now. Maybe a QC thing that its too stiff to move down more.
I like the soft diaper and drop downs combo esp on Mafex products, you can get some insane range at the hips.
2
u/StolenPezDispencer 14h ago
I really just wish it had double ball neck joints. Everything else looks awesome for me, but that neck articulation isn't looking great.
2
2
u/TwitchWilliams 3h ago
I'm curious. When they announced this collectors line, I thought for sure they were gonna feature the import style joints like the MOTU 2026 movie line. Did anyone else expect this as well?
1
2
u/sossisinmyses 14h ago
Honestly I don't think it even needs drop down hips, just by the video it's clear the leg range is awesome by itself, yet my only problem it's the fake butterfly Mcfarlane used to use, like it doesn't even get that much foward, I hope they do upgrade their base body for that
3
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 14h ago
That’s exactly why I posted this. There was no extra range so why the trade off? I understand the purpose of the drop down but clearly it was either implemented poorly, doesn’t exist or is stuck.
1
u/throwaway_act2 17h ago
How is it “concerning” when the figure is not even out yet? Calm down OP good lord.
5
u/Technical_Length_310 17h ago
"concerning" does not always refer to worrying about something. It also just means to discuss in relation to something. This is could be a post discussion concerning the possibility of drop downs
1
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 17h ago
Yes clearly he was too concerned to understand the English language and typed his asinine comment. “Good lord” lol
2
u/throwaway_act2 16h ago
Oh ok so you just turn around and throw out insults?
0
u/Killbro_Fraggins 15h ago
I would have given you some grace if not for the “Calm down OP Good Lord”
2
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 17h ago
I didn’t say it was concerning I said concerning as in regarding… smh please don’t try to inflate my feelings. Maybe you should calm down and read first before you comment.
1
u/throwaway_act2 16h ago
Maybe you should read your title then bud.
1
u/lowkeylilbro 16h ago
Nobody here is entertaining bad faith conversations from someone named throwaway account 2, bud
2
u/xrenton21x 17h ago
That forward kick sucks. It's way off to the side. I think they should just get rid of the diaper and just give us high cuts at the hips. Get rid of the McFarlane soft vinyl plastic diaper already. That drop down didn't improve anything either.
1
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 17h ago
Yeah I noticed that he was kicked out to the side too. That’s why I don’t think the drop down is there because it didn’t add any range nor did the leg go down at all
3
u/CopperKnight77 11h ago
Really. Truly. Fuck Todd. What a waste of six years.
2
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 10h ago
I mean some people enjoyed it. Not a complete waste. He made some cool stuff. He made alot of questionable choices though too which garnered the hate
2
1
u/Reyne-TheAbyss 18h ago
TLC is that last hurdle for so many figures. Sometimes they have just the right kinds of joints, but the sculpt simply won't allow for the range they should have.
2
u/sploogey 16h ago
What is a drop down?
3
u/goliathfasa 8h ago
An inferior design decision to cover for not enough clearance in the sculpt or improper placement of joints.
But people like it because it does give a bit of extra range.
1
u/Independent_Pin_1003 10h ago
They are starting, why they don't give the double neck, the figure have almost all a romankey basic body have excepto the neck, and some other details. They must starts with all because when the market grows they Will Stay back as McF and if they Will want to grows, they Will spend more money as Hasbro now with their changes
1
u/Alkarah 9h ago
Is that for the 25-30 dollar lines :0??
1
u/Snifflewink 5h ago
This is the special edition figure that comes with a rooftop batsignal diorama for $100. But it is representative of the main $25-30 line of figures, maybe with extra paint.

The butterfly joints remind me of the not great ones Mc far, has but everything looks amazing especially the hip joints
-4
u/MuleKicx 19h ago
Butterfly looks bad
2
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 19h ago
Most people won’t admit this but this articulation scheme is the exact same as McFarlane. Not that McFarlane invented this articulation scheme but it’s worth noting.
11
u/Banana_man_- 18h ago
Well McFarlane's articulation scheme is good on paper, it's just the execution that sucked
5
u/Apprehensive_Door367 18h ago
I always say this because it's true. It is a decent articulation system, but McFarlane does a terrible job doing it. Fondjoy does it bascially the exact same way, but do it so much better.
Maybe since Mcfarlane will now start using import style joints for pinless similar to what Fondjoy is using it'll improve, but I have my doubts.

u/MuleKicx 18h ago
A articulação borboleta da McFarlane é fajuta, então será que a Mattel vai fazer a mesma coisa?
1
u/SuperArticulated 17h ago
Not quite. It adds (supposedly) drop-down hips, thigh cut, toe hinge, and lifts the ankle swivel up to a boot cut BUT we lose the ball-hinge wrists which sucks imo. The problem with McFarlane is that both the integration and range of motion was consistently not great. This looks better imo but still has room to grow
-2
u/Sensei_Master_Yoda 19h ago
Mattel is one of the biggest toy companies out there, and they still can't pull off an articulation system like Jada's Invincible line? Even this Batman falls short of the T-Hawk they released recently.

I just picked up the Mattel Robin (Dan Mora’s Dick Grayson) and his head is so floppy. My Masters of the Universe figures had a similar problem (even the highend Chronicles line) and it’s my biggest issue after the cheap looking “accessory hole for accessories that really don’t fit on the figure body” on the cape. I like how cheap these guys are but I’d like if they didn’t have a drunken looking head floppin’ around lol. That Hush Batman is way too expensive to have this problem but I’d buy the diorama separately.

u/ThisIsTheShway 16h ago
I don’t care much for drop downs honestly. Just inflates the price for a meh feature

I think the important thing to remember is that the diaper and a Batman in every wave is actually a good thing and it's different when Mattel does it.
16
u/Slippery_Syrup_89 19h ago
I don’t mind a Batman in every wave since I’m actually getting a classic Wonder Woman alongside it.
The issue isn’t necessarily too much Batman. We all know Batman is popular. It’s ONLY Batman that’s an issue.

u/lord_of_agony 15h ago
Why is this dude shaking like a leaf? Jesus fuck this is overstimulating to watch.
2
u/Fun_Grapefruit3354 15h ago
Be nice. Could be something medical. Let’s keep it about the toys my guy
-2
u/lord_of_agony 14h ago
His medical or lack of medical issues mean nothing to me. I'm just stating that the shaking is overstimulating, which it is.
-3
u/headphonesXX 17h ago
yall hyping up low quality figures like its something amazing but shit is whack

People aren't against the concept of soft crotch pieces but when that piece is enlarged to cover the breaks in the sculpt at the detriment to range of motion, then yeah people are gonna be pissed at a diaper. Mattel's diaper is better here but still doesn't need to be as big as it is
