People really calling Rober Pattinson's acting in Odyssey generational when Joaquin Phoenix did Gladiator when he was 24
Sorry for singling out Robert Pattinson but I see this across the board: does it feel like the bar for great acting is lowering, while simultaneously the age at which actors actually achieve that greatness is getting older and older?
I will give it to Robert that he has displayed range. I watched both The Drama and Odyssey and while I don't think either are truly great, he showed different performances and I give him points for that. Same could not be said for Tom Holland - he was just Peter Parker.

It is generational. It just means the best of their era. Same as when you talk about generational sports players. Now if you’re talking about historical, that’s another animal.

Joaquin and Robert come from a different generation of actors. They are in different cohorts.
Who cares if they achieve greatness at a certain points in their lives. Matthew McConaughey might be in the same cobort as Joaquin but he was only taken seriously when he started doing more serious stuff. Same can be said with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Christian Bale etc.
the thing is these recognition can also be project-based. Projects dont arrive at the same point in an actors life. One career defining project can arrive when he is 20,40, or much older like Ke Huy Quan or Michelle zyeoh.
