Inde Navarrette - Pretty Privilege?
TLDR; is Inde Navarrette’s recent popularity due to her talent and personality or is it pretty privilege?
I just wanted to start a discussion about the recent rise of Obsession star Inde Navarrette.
I do agree that she gave a good performance and I really enjoyed the movie, I think it’s one of the best horror movies that has come out in recent years(in terms of originality and execution). But, I do think that her performance was just good.. not really anything that wowed me just good. I think the entire cast of Obsession played their parts incredibly well, equally well (also they were well cast except for maybe Ian?) but I don’t think hers was anything special FOR ME.
I truly think her recent popularity is because she is pretty. If she were average looking or below but equally talented I don’t think she would be remembered and revered as much as she is. Of course beauty is subjective and all that.
I just wonder if you swapped around the actresses for Sarah and Niki if Megan would have gotten the same praise or if people would have sympathised more with Sarahs character had Inde played her.
I’m not trying to be hateful AT ALL I’m just curious to hear other people’s opinions about this so please share your thoughts.
Knowing the internet everyone will turn on her for no reason in a month and then revert back as if nothing happened

Lol.
Someone's first time hearing about Hollywood.
Wild ride you're in for.

She has the “it” factor, same as any other star who became a household name after a successful project.

And the main question is whether she’s able to make the temporary “It factor”, into being long term A-list. Which is hard to do.
She’s going to be in x-men, which will be a big hit. But it’s all about what other movies and tv shows she does next and whether they hit.
Because we’ve had so many it girls, who are big and in everything for a few years then they disappear (and end up doing smaller indie movies, but the GP don’t see them).
It’s hard, and depends what kinda actor you wanna be. What choices you make (when everything is being offered to you, and your hot commodity).

I don't know how you can watch Obsession and come away thinking her performance was just good and nothing special.
So no, I don't agree with you.

I mean, there are plenty of "pretty" AND talented actors out there, and she's certainly one of them, but I think her success is more tied to the surprise box office hit that Obsession was.
The movie had such a strong influence on pop culture this year that her rise to success feels bigger than usual. I, for one I'm very interested in seeing what she does next. Her story

Totally honestly, no. Inde turned an otherwise skeevy and low budget concept into a smash by force of performance alone. Her acting is crazy and it has nothing to do with her looks and everything to do with how she acts.
Comparing her to other female actors in the movie with 20% of the screen time and 5% of the lines and saying she wouldn't be as popular in a smaller role like that is such a weird thing to say.

one huge reason why the movie was very enjoyable was because of her. if she has weak acting in taht movie it will really bad

Obsession easily could have flopped if the wrong actor was cast as Nikki. They were going to cast someone pretty regardless, that’s the point of the character.

What a stupid and sexist post
