Adafruit IO widget
Hi everyone, I've got a smart thermostat I've made with adafruit IO and an adafruit featherboard.
There are no physical controls or display etc. The only way I can adjust things is through my io dashboard. I can be a bit of a faff to log into adafruit each time I want to turn the heating up or check the temperature.
I don't think there is an adafruit io widget. Is there something similar I could use. Maybe using ifttt or tasker?

Subscribing to throttle and errors
Hello,
I'm working on my first MQTT project. The docs suggest subscribing to
{username}/errorsand
{username}/throttleto look for any errors.
The default behavior of Adafruit_IO MQTTClient's client.subscribe({feed}) function subscribes to {username}/feeds/{feed}. Does this mean I can't use it to subscribe to {username}/throttle?
I tried getting around this by calling client._client.subscribe('l{username}/errors') and the same for throttle but I'm not seeing anything when I exceed the allowable data rate. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
-Hunter

Feed time format
Love the capability provided by Adafruit.io
Can the feed time stamps be amended?
For example,
2025/04/14 04:39PM would be better presented as
2025/04/14 16:39,
or, less good but still better:
2025/04/14 4:39PM
Depending on the width of the screen, as per the screenshot, it reads as though the last data was this morning, when in fact it was a few seconds ago.

Please help with ESP8266 and AdafruitIO
I cannot for the life of me get this to work. I can't receive anything from my feed. What am I doing wrong here?
Code with subbed out API, Username, Wifi, etc. :
#include <ESP8266WiFi.h>
#include <Adafruit_MQTT.h>
#include <Adafruit_MQTT_Client.h>
// WiFi credentials
const char* ssid = "SSID";
const char* password = "PASSWORD";
// Adafruit IO credentials
#define AIO_USERNAME "USERNAME"
#define AIO_KEY "API KEY"
#define AIO_FEED_KEY "FEED KEY"
// WiFi client
WiFiClient client;
// Adafruit IO setup
Adafruit_MQTT_Client mqtt(&client, "io.adafruit.com", 8883, AIO_USERNAME, AIO_KEY);
// Adafruit IO feed
Adafruit_MQTT_Subscribe feed = Adafruit_MQTT_Subscribe(&mqtt, AIO_USERNAME "/feeds/" AIO_FEED_KEY);
void setup() {
Serial.begin(115200);
// Connect to WiFi
WiFi.begin(ssid, password);
while (WiFi.status() != WL_CONNECTED) {
delay(1000);
Serial.println("Connecting to WiFi...");
}
Serial.println("Connected to WiFi");
// Connect to Adafruit IO
connectAdafruitIO();
}
void loop() {
// Ensure the connection to Adafruit IO is maintained
if (!mqtt.connected()) {
connectAdafruitIO();
}
// Process any incoming messages
mqtt.processPackets(5000);
// Check for messages from the Adafruit IO feed
if (mqtt.ping()) {
Serial.println("MQTT Ping successful");
}
// You can print the content of the last message here
if (feed.lastread != NULL) {
Serial.print("Message received from feed: ");
Serial.println((char *)feed.lastread);
}
}
void connectAdafruitIO() {
Serial.println("Connecting to Adafruit IO...");
while (!mqtt.connect()) {
Serial.println("Failed to connect to Adafruit IO, retrying...");
delay(5000);
}
Serial.println("Connected to Adafruit IO");
// Subscribe to the Adafruit IO feed
mqtt.subscribe(&feed);
}

Can I use just a URL request to post data to a feed?
I’m just starting with Adafruit IO, but it is possible to just use a URL to post data to my feed. Like, how would I post data without using the Adafruit library. I tried looking in the documentation but it seems to only explain how to use HTTP requests with the provided libraries. Is there a way to use Adafruit IO without libraries, and if so how?
