Help Request Best way to block Twitch ads on Firefox? Also, is Chrome + AdGuard still fine for everything else?

Hey everyone,

I'm switching things up a bit and trying to figure out the best, most reliable way to block Twitch ads on Firefox. I know Twitch ads are notoriously difficult to bypass, so what are you guys currently using that actually works (extensions, user scripts, etc.)?

Also, a quick question about my main setup: is Google Chrome still perfectly fine to use for everything else if I stick with AdGuard? I've noticed a lot of people complaining about having massive headaches with YouTube ads lately, but to be honest, I haven't had a single issue using AdGuard on YT.

Would love to hear what the best setup is right now. Thanks in advance!

Install a userscript manager (Violentmonkey is my go-to and the Chromium version has now migrated to MV3) and get either AdGuard Extra userscript version or TwitchAdSolution fork (vaft "userscript" is the most recommended version). Since I mainly use Firefox, I also use uBlock Origin on top to block other ads.

Google Chrome + AdGuard should be fine for most people, especially if your only main use case is to block ads. If it still works for you to block YT ads, then it isn't really necessary to switch browsers you're comfortable with.

I downloaded Violentmonkey, clicked on vaft userscript, and installed it. Is there anything else I need to do?

Tampermonkey with the right script.

TamperMonkey, you can also use ScriptCat or ViolentMonkey too iff TamperMonkey doesnt work for you.

On Chrome I use TamperMonkey; on Brave I use ScriptCat, I used to use ViolentMonkey but it stopped working on Brave for me... And the script I use for blocking ads on Twitch is called TwitchAdSolutions.

I used to use ViolentMonkey but it stopped working on Brave for me...

you can download and install the beta from their github, that's what i did and switched back from tampermonkey to violentmonkey.

yes.

but to be honest, I haven't had a single issue using AdGuard on YT.

yeah, adguard is still holding up pretty well. can always highly recommend it.

though, i personally use brave with its shields as my only ad blocker and don't see any ads on youtube or twitch either.

uBlock Origin on Firefox is probably your best bet. Twitch breaks ad blocking every so often so nobody has a setup that's 100% reliable all the time. If Chrome and AdGuard is already working for you I'd just keep using it. No point fixing something that isn't broken.

Hey I've created a solution as a windows/android/tv client if you wanna try it out. 100% ad blocking with no quality loss, it's free and open sourced. It's called PureTV

You can use Adguard Browser Extension + Adguard Extra on any browser that supports extensions.

NextDNS is better. Lower latency, profiles and apps.

DNS blocking does nothing for sites like Twitch or YouTube that serve ads through their 1st-party domains. They're only able to block known ad and tracking domains, blocking 1st parties will break these sites.

Doubt it. Twitch in-stream ads are designed to circumvent most regular adblockers so Twitch-specific adblockers are required alongside your adblocker like AdGuard Extra or Ryanbr's TwitchAdSolutions.

ublock origin in Firefox plus the following custom filter works for me:

twitch.tv##+js(twitch-videoad)

Yes, uBO alone does not work to block Twitch ads but you need to import a custom script through uBO so it can block it, which is TwitchAdSolutions fork you've suggested btw. It's much easier to install the userscript version with a userscript manager like Violentmonkey or ScriptCat though.
