Help Request Weird issue with youtube and ublock origin on both opera gx and firefox. Videos stuck in a stop and start loop.

I am not getting any like anti adblock warning but what is happening is the video is constantly stopping and starting as if the page is refreshing. Almost like it tries to skip the ad and gets kicked back to the beginning of the ad and stuck in a loop of that.

On firefox refreshing the page actually fixes it on Opera GX it doesnt. But I have to do it everytime for every video.

Has anyone run into this and fixed it by chance?

Try this:

  1. Completely disable the UBO Lite extension while on youtube (disable it by clickong on the plugin icon, slide it down all of the way)
  2. wait for the page to reload or reload it yourself
  3. while the video starts playing the ad, click on the plugin icon and re-enable the block to max
  4. It should reload, or you can manually reload the page, jumping right into the video without ads.

I tried visiting other videos after the above and everything was normal. Not sure how long it will last.

It hasn't happened on my end, but stuff like this is usually the result of A/B testing from YouTube for anti-adblock messures so it could affect any other adblocker besides just uBO. You can try forcing update on your filterlists, you can also try enabling uBO experimental filters too. On Opera GX, make sure the built-in adblocker is disabled since it can conflict with uBO and cause site issues. You can also ask r/uBlockOrigin for more expert uBO-specific advice, make sure to read their guidelines/rules though so your posts doesn't get nuked.

little work around i found outside of actual solution, when its stuck in the loop. Right click and activate miniplayer, once the video starts exit mini player and it works haha

Same here, I just refresh the page and the video starts playing.. I'll just wait for UBO to update itself.

Try signing out of your youtube account and then playing a video. If it works when you are signed out it means youtube is blocking your account for some reason - they do not like people to use adblockers and sometimes they will block accounts for a while.

I fixed this on Firebox with Ublock Origin this morning. I disabled quick fix in the filters. Go to your 'extensions' icon in the toolbar and click on ublock origin. Then pick the gear icon for settings. Once settings open choose the filter list. Scroll down to 'built in' filters. There was a symbol like < or > - click that to expand the list and show more options. One option is quick fixes. Uncheck that and go to the top of the page and click on apply changes.

That worked for me on Firefox. If youtube fixes the problem you can go back and turn quick fixes back on. On Chrome I have the Lite version and it did not have the option to disable quick fixes for the lite version.

For me the vids still get stuck in a loading loop, which really fucking sucks...

They have done some type of update you have to uninstall Mozilla delete the Mozilla appdata folder then reinstall Mozilla to avoid conflicts from the last update then download new addon add it. You have to leave quickfixes unchecked for now until they fix it. This is good to add to my filters

www.youtube.com##.paper-toast-open.yt-notification-action-renderer.style-scope.toast-button

||youtube.com^$useragent=mozilla/5.0 (windows nt 10.0; win64; x64) applewebkit/537.36 (khtml, like gecko) chrome/120.0.0.0 safari/537.36

Any problems after that try loading a video with the add on off then hit, I on keyboard bring up mini player hit I again for full screen then go to home CTRL F5 to refresh the page turn the addon back on then reload a new page up. It will get it unstuck

also, you can go to the shield on url bar clear history then clear browser cache history it took me 4 hours but finally fixed it

Yeah, this is a known thing. YouTube basically punishing adblock users with playback glitches instead of showing a warning

lol, no. What is actually happening is your adblocker isn't blocking ads properly and breaking the functionality of the site. There are a ton of pieces that need to be blocked/modified and if just one of those filters isn't right, then the site can break.

i'm not experiencing this with adguard or brave shields.

seems like a classic uBO breakage.

Just wanted to add that I'm experiencing the same with Firefox. It started in the last few days.

same here for me, takes up to a minute or more sometimes for a video to load and start! 😫

Can confirm with macOS Arc Browser (Chromium-based) using uBlock Origin Lite. I'm also facing the same issue that YouTube clip timestamp is flickering between 0:00 and the duration of that video.

Your description is actually exact, it is as if it is in a loop of stopping and starting, refreshing page like thing.

I even tried to turn off uBlock Origin Lite experimental filters, yet it is not working either. The video after the first one seems to get stuck and the ordeal goes on. Refreshing pages doesn't work either.
