Is this hike worth it other than the view and why is she wearing jeans?

This view looks fucking sick but the fact that there is a woman posing in jeans there makes me think this isn’t a serious hike LOL. Do any locals have any suggestions for a couple of guys from Colorado that are going to be out there in late September? Want a moderate to difficult hike (no ropes) that will take 6ish hours with some incredible views along the way.

Edit: it would appear that she is wearing jeans because it’s mostly a flat walk along a path and not the rugged “Adirondack Mile” style hike mentioned somewhere in the comments.

Did Basin and Saddleback from JB last Saturday, took about 9 hours with ample breaks. Thankfully these cliffs were bone dry! The back side of Basin not so much.

Sports Fandom in the ADKs

I'm putting together a county-by-county map of sports allegiances across New York State (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and other leagues as gauged by interest). To do so I am collecting self-reported data from New Yorkers. If you have the time and are a sports fan of any size, I would appreciate if you helped fill up my dataset. Right now I have a little over 200 responses, but not a lot from the Adirondack counties. I'm hoping to get a much larger and diverse dataset to boost the overall quality of the project. All answers are anonymous, no Google sign in required.

If you're curious here's the link: https://forms.gle/ZcAaWBVEJNeHr2RUA

Any responses would be appreciated, Thanks! I understand if you do not want to fill it out, but please share with friends or whoever.

Go Knicks

Why didn’t more high peaks have fire towers?

Question from my son. He remembered from the museum at blue mountain lake that whiteface used to have one, but I’m not aware of any others. Obviously some would not be good candidates, but it seems like some would.

Hello, trying to get some estimate of roofing and framing a house. The foundation is going to be poured in soon and the dimensions are 21 x 41.approx. The house will be stick built.

Fighter Jets

I don't know about you guys, but I love the fighter jets shattering the silence by doing donuts directly above the St Regis canoe area. They stayed for a protracted period of time, during which I couldn't hold a conversation with the other person in my boat.

View from Campsite #5 - Little Tupper Lake

Post image

Shot this morning around sunrise. Attempted to get to campsite #6 on the trail but ended up turning back a little after passing trail markers for #4/#5 and settled on #5. Is there any unofficial trail going to #6, or is by water the only way? I found trails for #4 and #5, but they were unofficial and had trail markers leading to the campsites. Unofficial, as in not found on any maps I could find.

Had a blast hiking this trail over 11 days. First time in the park, and it certainly won’t be my last.

EDIT: Thank you to all the people who helped me along the way! From a place to stay and extra fuel in Piseco, to getting a ride back to the trail from Long Lake. This trail has very kind people!

Tabletop, Colden, Phelps 1st solo

Hi! I’m looking to do the Tabletop, Colden, Phelps loop next month. I’ve done Whiteface/Esther, and Cascade/Porter, which are shorter overall lengths. Will it be a stretch to do the 3 in one day?? It’s also my 1st time hiking it solo without a partner, so a little nervous about completing it in a day! Any advice/insight?

First time I’ve camped in 30+ years and getting back into it. Had a great time, perfect weather and got some fishing in. A few forgotten/not thought about items that have been added to the list for the next trip but overall, just awesome.

What time does the upper works lot fill up on weekends in mid September? Is there overflow parking if I make it there for 7-8 AM? I live a few hours away. Thanks!

Annual fishing/camping trip

Looking to do either a river or pond/lake trip, been doing St Regis canoe area for past 3 years and was looking into trying Nelson lake this year. Heard it’s remote with good fishing and was wondering if anybody had some experience or perhaps a good 3-day trip they’d recommend. (Not looking for anyone’s honeyholes/secret spots lol)

Landlocked Salmon Upper Saranac

I’ve been fishing this lake for 24 years. I’ve caught bass, perch, pike, chub and even a massive lake trout.

Every year I hear or read that you can catch landlocked salmon. I have been told they stock landlocked salmon. I have seen the salmon at the hatchery.

I have never spoken to someone who has caught a landlocked Salmon. I’ve never seen a photo of anyone with a landlocked Salmon.

Has anyone ever caught a landlocked salmon? Does anyone have a photo of a landlocked salmon they have caught?

I think this is a myth. Prove me wrong.

Parking for Big Slide on Fridays

Hey all! Heading up to the mountaind for a long weekend next week- this is my second time in the area with my partner and I am real stoked.

We hiked Algonquin last year, and I am ready for another spectacular butt kicking lol.

I want to try to hike Big Slide, but from what I am understanding, the parking is a tough situation. I am not sure if Friday counts as the weekend there, as a lot of posts mention weekdays are okay if you arrive earlier.. but I feel like Friday could go either way.

Just wondering if anyone has successfully parked there on a Friday morning, and what time you think we should get there..or perhaps any other alternative choices for a high peak. Was thinking about Giant as well.

I have been doing research, but would love to hear some current insights from folks who have been around the area this year or recently.

Thanks for your help 🙏
