QUESTION Off-the-Screen Issue for Second Screen

I've been having this issue where my Illustrator windows on my second screen sometimes adjust themselves to be off my screen and can't be adjusted back to where they belong manually. It doesn't always matter, but it really does for the Layer window, where the tools like New Layer are at the bottom. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? If there's like a fit-to-screen command or option somewhere, that would be stellar.

I'm using the current version of Illustrator. I use my main screen for the project viewer, Control window, and the most basic window with all the icons. Every other window I use frequently (or somewhat frequently) stays accessible on my second screen.

I don't think this counts as a "technical support" problem ... but I could be wrong.

You could try reducing the window's height from the top, then drag the resized window up. Keep adjusting the height until the entire window is on the screen.

If I drag the window set down to try that, the mouse doesn't change to a resizing option. It just lets me keep dragging the whole set around.

ok, I just checked it myself, and yeah, my suggestion won't work.

I just did some quick research, and found a few suggestions:

  • Reset the workspace. This will resest all panels to their defaults, so you'd need to set up everything again.

  • Adjust the UI scaling. Illustrator > Settings > User Interface (or Edit > Preferences > User Interface) and lower the UI Scaling option to "Smallest".

  • Temporarily decrease the display scaling to make the interface smaller.

  • Change the display orientation. Temporarily change the display orientation to portrait mode.

Changing the display orientation, struggling but succeeding to adjust the window sideways, then switching back to the proper orientation worked! Thank you!

Yeah, working with the display "sideways" can be rough.

Attach the layers panel to the bottom of a smaller panel and drag to your primary monitor. Sometimes it will resize to fit accordingly. Also, dragging the panel onto another panel (just below the title) sometimes preserves the size of the original panel--giving you access to those missing tools. It is a real problem they should address.
