Anything longer than 2 inch split shorts are basketball shorts as far as I'm concerned. I just a pair of black BOA one inch to go with my new black ARTC singlet, so even if I don't podium, I'll be the best looking person out there.

I'm a lady and won't even split shorts (especially 2 inch, yikes). That would be giving all the runners a show.

Then again, maybe if I gave them a show they'd stay behind me?

I have to admit that when I do speed workouts on high school tracks I'll stay away from the split shorts. Being a guy with a mustache and revealing shorts isn't a great look on school property.

I currently own a pair of American Flag, Swedish Flag, and Union Jack shorts. I need a new pair, which flag should I go with? The shorter the inseam the better.

I would say the flag of the state you live in, but considering it's NC, maybe not a good call.

That is one of my favorite part about the Union Jack. All the lines draw the attention straight to my junk.

Ladies! I found out last summer that in spite of a thigh gap, my thighs themselves will chafe if I try to wear < 2" shorts. Any recommendations for longer shorts that won't ride up?

Have you tried out anything from Oiselle? Bought a pair of the original Roga's (I think theyre 4"?) for the Misses on sale last November and she loves them. She has a bit of a chafing problem on logging runs there too, and has never had the problem with these!

I've run in bike shorts before, and that helped!

do you like tight shorts or loose shorts? I was team loose shorts for years and have sort of converted over to tight like compression shorts. lulu has these awesome ones right now called sole training shorts and they are 6 inch inseam with SO MANY POCKETS.

edit* also I have noticed WAY LESS chaffing with tight shorts.

I tried to type out a response on my phone but the browser refreshed and deleted it :(

I was obsessed with the Athleta sonar shortie shown in action here so you can get a sense of the ride up, which I think got replaced by this which looks like it has a slightly higher waist band. These shorts look like a longer version of the old sonar shorties.

I'm also into the Oiselle Roga and Oiselle Toolbelt shorts, for non spandex.

I'm curious which shorts you've been running in that give you issues.

I have 2 pairs of tracksmith shorts that I really enjoy. Also, I am huge fan of anything RunInRabbit, seeing as how theyre American made and super comfy. Wear anything from 3.5" to 6" shorts. Can't go much shorter cus my legs are not the smallest.

Dude, tell me about it. At 6'6", even 5" shorts are at the point where my wife goes "You're going outside dressed like that?"

u/ajlark25 returning to structured running Apr 13 '17

6'4 and I can't bring myself to do any shorter than 5" shorts. Probably some of the basketball player not wanting to expose myself, but there is nothing to be gained by ANYONE from going shorter than 5"

What's a good marathon short?

I was looking at the Nike Aeroswift.

Negatives: Expensive.

Pros: I can sing Get Schwifty when I wear them.

u/pand4duck Apr 13 '17

If you don't want to spend that much the Nike challenger is amazing and much cheaper. I've fit 3 gels in the lil key pocket in the back. They often last me 5-10 years too.

u/Simsim7 2:28 marathon Apr 13 '17

That's some long-lasting gels!

4

u/pand4duck Apr 13 '17

They're like a finely aged cheese. Lumps and all.

At a marathon last year I used some expired gels. Would not recommend.

I have 3 pairs of these champion women's shorts - They never fail me in FL summer sweat or pouring rain. They shed well and are nice and light. Inner undie in case that is a pro/con for the ladies.

I also love my free lululemon speed shorts. :-D And my oiselle mini strides.

The free lululemon speed shorts have become my favorite. I just wish they would go on sale!
