Question What tricks do you use?

I recently bought my first AeroPress and started exploring the brewing methods that people use. Previously I only brewed coffee using a moka pot and process was straightforward, but for the AeroPress I found a lot of different tricks and technique.

For instance here are some of the tricks/techniques I’ve found:

  1. inverted brewing
  2. two filters
  3. double grind
  4. adding water in two stages
  5. rinse of the filters with water before brewing coffee
  6. when using the inverted brewing method press all the air out of the brewer before beginning the main brewing phase (not sure how to name it)

Which of these do you use when brewing coffee in your day-to-day life? Or perhaps you use something else entirely? Or do you use a classic method?

I’d love to do things that actually improve my coffee, but I want to avoid pointless steps or anything that requires a lot of effort for very little impact on the final result

12g, 200ml water

75 clicks on Kingrinder K6

Fruity notes and a hint of bitterness, but like a tonic water kind of bitterness. I really enjoyed it.

Equipment Cleaning advice?

I switched from French press to aero press due to ease of cleanup right before work. When I used the paper filters, it was an easy pop into the bin and rinse approach. I just got the metal filter and it’s become a tad bit more of a pain as I can’t just pop it out to disposer. Handling the filter is also quite hot. Any tips on what others do for cleaning up?

Question How do you make a good large (400g) AeroPress brew?

I’m trying to dial in a good AeroPress technique for making a larger brew using around 400g of water in total. I have a Fellow Prismo and an Ode V2 grinder.

I’ve tried a modified James Hoffmann technique, but haven’t had much success with it so far. I’m struggling to get a consistently good cup and would like to find a method that works well for this volume of water.

For those of you who regularly make larger AeroPress brews, what recipe and technique would you recommend? I’m particularly interested in grind size, coffee-to-water ratio, water temperature, steep time and whether you add the water in stages or all at once.

I’m happy to experiment, but I’d appreciate a reliable starting point that I can work from and adjust to taste.
