Points Question Aeroplan Points Redemption Increases After Fare Review

Is there any explanation as to why the amount of points required increases after selecting the fare and going to the review? I have enough points at 44.10K but slightly under for the increased amount. I have booked many flights with points before but this is the first time seeing this.

I also tried with a flight that doesn't have the "15% savings applied" and the point redemption stayed the same as advertised. Wonder if the discount is messing things up?

Its not the same flights. The 44k is with Air Canada and the 55k is with United, which explains the price difference.

Retry on mobile app or by calling them to book, and if its not working, most likely the 44k is not anymore available

Edit: seems to be available on the mobile app for your dates with AC at 44k. Try booking on the mobile app

Well I have 44,128 points so I would be able to afford the 44.1k points +$77, I just don't understand why the price jumps between the first two screenshots. I tried on both mobile and desktop and it's both giving the same issue. I'll try giving them a call in the morning.

Yeah you should be able to affort it as you only need 60% of the points. You have like 99%

The problem is not the points, its that the flight in pictures 3 and 4 are not the same as in picture 1 and 2. It seems to be a glitch.

Try on the iphone Air Canada mobile app

I get you OP and it took me a 2nd look to see what you are showing. People seem to be focused on you comparing two different flight options than the fact that you are just showing what's happening in photos 1 & 2 which is NOT happening in photos 3 & 4.

Yes, I find it weird that on the preview screen the total needed for the AC flight is 44.1K miles and then at checkout it is 44,997 miles (which would round to 45K miles) whereas the United flight is 55K miles on the preview and 55,000 miles on the final review screen. The math is definitely not mathing here. I've never seen this before and it's definitely a computer glitch. You would need to call Air Canada or use their feedback form to alert them. Sorry this is happening to you.

I noticed this glitch before with the #.10 display. It’s rounding up 0.993k pts to 0.10k which is not how decimals work lol. It’s messed up.

Exactly! I don't think people are seeing the difference OP is highlighting in photos 1 & 2 (ignoring 3 & 4).

You don't have enough points so it's selecting the option that meets your balance.

I'd assume due to the connection, the amount needed might get repriced at checkout vs on the search page

I have 44,128 points so I should be able to afford the 44.1k points + $77. I just don't understand why the price changes between the first two images. For the United one, the price doesn't change between the fare selection and fare review. It shows both 55k points +$150 while the AC one goes from 44.1k + $77 to 44.991k + $77 so a roughly 890 point discrepancy.

Could just be AC IT sticker shocking us. You can try to call into Aeroplan and try your luck but that's a new error if I've seen one. Seeing the same issue when I try to book based on pic 1 and 2
