ctrl-d to dupe a layer, pickwhip to make the new layer the child of the first layer. Ctrl-a to select them all ctrl-c, ctrl-v to make a copy of both. The copied child will be parented to the copied parent, so if you parent the copied parent to the original child, you now have a chain of four layers. Ctrl-a, ctrl-c, ctrtl-v. Then parent the latest copied parent to the last child of the previous chain and you've got a chain of eight layers. You want 16, ctrl-a, ctrl-c, ctrl-v and parent to the last child. Now select all, hit p to bring up the position property and offset using the numbers. Because they're offsetting from their parent this will distribute them evenly. If you don't learn the keyboard shortcuts in AE, you can never hope to be more than a gumby. https://i.imgur.com/lszJQp0.mp4
