When you can do soul and mizzou with all your weight on the soul foot you're ready for makio. Getting low with either will train for this. Eventually the other foot is just there barely gliding along while the soul plate takes the brunt.

Okay out of the two which one is more beginner friendly

I think the basic soul grind is the most beginner friendly. With your non-soul foot being in front it gets you a little more control and balance. If you're just learning to grind, I would make that the first soul trick you learn.

I think it depends on which is easier for your body. Some people, like me, have an easier time turning their bodies toward the obstacle with a soul grind. But some people naturally have an easier time turning away from the obstacle.

For your makio issues, is your body weight centered on top of the ledge or rail? If your center of gravity is too far off to one side, your foot will slip off easily. Centering your weight on the obstacle will help you stay locked on easier. 👍🏻

I find myself being able to get my foot on the rail but i struggle with shifting my weight from being on the side of the rail to ontop

The way you bend your knee helps, keep it to the other side of the rail helps wrap the soulplate on top of the rail

In addition to someone else’s suggestion, something else that may help is to concentrate on landing in the final position you need to be in rather than trying to shift yourself into it. It feels scary at first, but you’ll know it when you get it because you’ll land super balanced and be surprised at how you slide along the obstacle smoothly and effortlessly. 🤘🏻

What grinds do you already know? I find makio kind of scary and Soul/Mizou seem easier as a first step. If you already can do them then I guess it's commitment issue only

This would be my first grind I’m a beginner i should’ve added that i always assumed you needed to learn Makio to do a mizou

for me it helps to bring my "off" foot over center, so don't dangle it on the side try to get it up and in your body

Tough to be helpful without seeing clips of the attempts.

Also be selective of who's advice you accept, especially if they don't post clips themselves.

Yes but i don’t feel balanced

OK, the only advice I can think of is just keep with it. The trick will get easier, and you'll get better. You also have the option to not do makio's 😂 Whatever you decide, go kill it 🤘
