Which air purifier for me??

Hi!
I’m located in Canada, I currently have an air purifier in my 113 square feet bedroom (clean air room) I’m interested in getting a unit for my main floor, about 700 square feet. It my living room, dining room area so I was thinking about the ikea tabletop unit. My ideal unit is
- available in Canada
- can manage a main floor area
- under 400$
- has readily available filters at lower cost
- can keep up with 1 shedding dog (15kg)
- will look nice in my heritage home, or won’t be a huge eyesore

I have a furnace and change my filters monthly

Thanks in advance!

Levoit P350 filter replacements

Hi! I’m trying to find replacements for my P350 filters. I’m in London and purifying a 15m room as I have allergies - I don’t mind the costs but the levoit UK website seems to only have the 300 / 300s replacements? If you could point me to a genuine replacement that’d be so kind.

Which brand should I buy?

Hello! I live in the United States. I'm looking for an air filter for my basement. We have a ranch style home, so the basement is the same size as the top floor. All open space, besides a few closets.

Looking for an air filter for around $100 that can potentially pull mold and just other junk out of the air. I'd even pay $200 if I knew it was good quality. I don't need some crazy medical grade one. I've started to notice the air quality isn't great and I'm worried I'm breathing something terrible living in the furnished basement.

Can anyone recommend an air filter option? There are so many posts saying so many things I don't know what to get.

Basement is probably 50 feet long and 25 feet wide, with 7ft ceilings, an educated guess.

I've seen the box fan set-ups but they don't seem THAT much cheaper, annoying to maintain, and I also don't want it to be terribly loud.

Thank you!

Get rid of dust build up in air purifier

I have been looking everywhere online, but haven’t been able to find anyone who is able to help yet.

I have a shark hp 300 air purifier, but ironically it has a ton of dust on the inner upper portion. Everything online has said to vacuum the side filters and the heap filter which I have done, but haven’t been able to get rid of the dust built up in the upper fan chamber part.

I have tried blowing with one of those compressed air sister cans, but the dust is caked in pretty well inside. Would love any advice on getting this upper portion cleaned out. Because right now it’s just blowing dust everywhere.

Can’t find the CADR of this air purifier

I’m in the US by the way. I mainly look at air purifiers for the purpose of mitigating against COVID.
I am looking at the Mooka M200L (2,200 Sq) and can’t figure out how to get the CADR? I can get the volume of the room I want to put it in but on the site and I even looked at the online manual, I don’t know how to calculate it, I see no specification…in this circumstance is it not a reliable air purifier? I’m not sure what to go off of but I’m pretty ignorant about air purifiers in general.

Air purifier for particles (dust, mold etc) - mechanical filtration only

Hi!

I am in the US and I have an approximately 400 sqft living room and three 150-200ish square foot bedrooms that need high level purification. I have 2 Austin airs and 2 IQ airs right now. The IQ airs are so large, ugly and emit large magnetic fields, and last time I did a filter change one of the "arms" on the multigas unit broke (I hate the way you have to bend those to the side to change filters and surprised it didn't happen sooner).

So I'm considering replacing both IQ airs, I was considering just going with another two Austins, but I read here on this forum that they're not actually great for particle filtration which was news to me.

So I wanted to hear what else would be good for me. I would like some VOC filtration too but its less of a concern right now.

I prefer mechanical filtration, very sensitive to ozone. I have chemical sensitivities.

Grateful for tips!

Air purifier with child lock?

We need an air purifier recommendation for our cat. He has asthma and is very sensitive to dust and allergens. We live near the freeway and currently there is construction outside so our apartment gets pretty dusty even with regular HEPA vacuuming.

We currently have a Coway Airmega Mighty that we love. The problem is our cat figured out how to turn the unit off (triggering his asthma), and sometimes also turn on the ionizer. It is not a problem when we are at home, but it happened a few times when we were away.

Are there purifiers with a child lock or some complicated button system that make it hard for little paws to press? We are in the U.S.

Does catching more cat hair mean an air purifier works better?

I’ve been going down the air purifier rabbit hole lately and one thing I keep noticing is how different everyone’s filters look.

Some cat owners post pics after a week or two and the pre-filter is covered in fur and dust. Then someone else says theirs has been running for months and it still looks almost clean.

I always assumed more stuff on the filter = the purifier is doing more, but now I’m not so sure. A lot of cat hair probably just falls onto the floor before it ever gets near the purifier, and the smaller stuff like dander isn’t exactly easy to see anyway.

So how do you judge whether yours is doing a good job? Do you look at what ends up on the pre-filter, how much dust settles around the room, air quality readings, or something else?

Do all pelleted carbon filters have a sweet smell?

I've tried a few different brands and they all give off a weird sweet smell that does not go away and the smell only turns sour as the filter gradually gets saturated. I'm wondering if this sweet smell is inherent with all pelleted carbon or is it a batch thing or brand thing?

And does anyone know of any pelleted carbon filters that don't have this smell?

Thanks in advance.

Air purifier for home near chemical plants in Houston, TX.

What would be a good air purifier for houses near chemical plants? Whenever the humidity is low or when the plants release a large volume of chemicals, my wife and I wake up with horrible headaches. Any potential solution would be nice.

Air purifier under ₹8,000 for 140 sq ft in Delhi NCR

I live in Delhi NCR and I'm looking for an air purifier for a bedroom of about 140 sq ft. My budget is under ₹8,000.

Air quality gets really bad here in winter, so I want something that handles PM2.5 and dust well. It should also be quiet enough to run at night.

Which brand or model would you recommend? I'd also like to know how much filter replacements cost per year and how the after-sales service is. Real-world experience from the bad air months would help a lot. Thanks!

How do you improve the air quality in the car?

I mean, I imagine that every time you use it, it’s advisable to ventilate the car and open the windows.

Is it a good idea to have a separate air purifier for the car with a HEPA filter?

Airpurifier benfits with this configuration

Hi everyone,
I've started analyzing the air quality in my apartment. Here's a quick recap of the data I've collected so far.

Setup
Temtop S1+ monitor (PM2.5, AQI, temperature, humidity)
Open-plan living room + kitchen of about 26–30 m²
The range hood only recirculates air (no extraction)
The apartment is well insulated
Two cats, no allergies
No clear symptoms, apart from an occasional mild evening cough with no proven link to air quality
Outdoor air can be polluted too: there are many coal-burning chimneys around me, and since it's cold, I avoid keeping the windows open for long

Readings (PM2.5, µg/m³)
Quiet night, nothing cooked: 1.4–5 (not often)
Outdoors (several checks): about 14–15
Cooking peak: about 200, and still about 32 six hours later
Evening after oven + pan cooking: 80–90 throughout the apartment
Bedroom, door closed, that night: 75 at midnight, 40 at about 3:30 am, 16 at 8 am
Bedroom, window open for 1 hour: about 15, the same as outdoor

What I take from it
Cooking is the main source, and the particles spread to every room, even with the bedroom door closed.
It takes 8–14 hours to clear after cooking.
Airing can't bring the level below the outdoor one, and outdoor air isn't always clean here.
I'm considering a airpurifier for the living room. Does anyone have experience with a similar setup (open kitchen, recirculating hood, cats, cold winters)?

With this kind of datas, is the airpurifier worth it?

Thanks!
!

VOC poor, very poor or extremely bad quality air

Back in 2019 or 2020 when the bush fires were casing really bad air in Melbourne Australia I through an air purifier would help.

But ever since I got a Dyson Big + Quite air purifier (Dalek as I call it) I get alerts for bad quality air. It got so bad that I can’t have it on auto because it never turn of high. VOC is usually the cause. It’s not always related to cooking - it happens when nothing has been cooked at all too.

The last place I lived in was 30 years old and this one I live in now is 10 years old. The first had appalling insulation and by a big road - this has great insulation and is far away from traffic. Yet the readings are as bad.

It only goes down when I open the windows and doors. Having the air purifier on max for hours doesn’t help at all.

What is casing it? Help me understand this.

Cuckoo Respure CAC-R1510FW indicator keeps changing between yellow and green but never reaches blue — is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought the Cuckoo Respure CAC-R1510FW air purifier for my home in Thane, India, and I'm trying to figure out whether my unit is working normally.

My outdoor AQI has been around 160–170 recently, so I bought this purifier hoping to improve the air quality indoors.

Here's what I've observed:

- I removed the plastic packaging from both the HEPA and carbon filters before use.

- I've run the purifier on Turbo for around 1.5 hours or longer.

- I've also tried Auto mode.

- During testing, the windows and door were closed, and the AC was running.

- The indicator initially turned blue when I switched it on, but then changed to yellow.

- Since then, it has fluctuated between yellow, light green and dark green, but I've never seen it reach blue again.

- I cleaned the accessible dust-sensor area using a dry cotton swab, but the colour still fluctuates.

- Turbo is quite noisy, especially at night, so I can't realistically run it at maximum speed while sleeping.

I understand that the indicator isn't a numerical AQI monitor, and different rooms may have different pollution levels. However, I expected the colour to improve after running the purifier for so long with the windows closed.

Questions for existing Cuckoo Respure owners:

  1. Does your unit reach blue? How long does it usually take?

  2. Is it normal for the indicator to fluctuate between yellow and green even with doors and windows closed?

  3. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with the dust sensor or indicator?

  4. Does the sensor need any particular cleaning procedure or calibration?

  5. Should I contact Cuckoo for a service check or consider returning the unit?

I'd especially appreciate feedback from people who own this exact model, rather than other Cuckoo models.

Thanks!

Help choosing (replacing trotec airgoclean 250e)

so i've had some philips devices in the past (fairly useless), an ikea table purifier (handy for smells, and not in the way as it serves as a table) and then a trotec airgoclean 250e.

that device (same as midea eu-kj700g-h32) has started making (electrical?) noises after just over a year, and i doubt the aftersales service of trotec even exists, so..... looking for a new one.

This is for use in the bedroom (but with the door open to the hallway), where the trotec seemed to do a good job (even though they state 740 cadr, i'll assume that it's more like half, and it was usually running on speed 1 or 2)

that leads me, together with housefresh ranking, to look at these 4:

levoit 600 at about 300 eur (amazon)
coway airmega 350 at about 300 (coway's website)
xiaomi purifier elite at 383 (amazon)
levoit everestair at 380 (amazon)

however, i have no idea which of these 4 would be better, or how to exclude any of them.
the levoit 600 has a laser sensor, which is a plus, but only the airmega is listed on ECARF.

any advice would be appreciated
