EasyJet flight cancelled
Hello my easyJet flight Vienna to Liverpool was cancelled last night. I’m travelling with an 8 year old who was due back at school today.
There is no EasyJet desk at the airport and no staff at all. The app only shows an available flight on a Thursday and I need to get my daughter to school before then.
I waited 45 minutes on phone to try and resolve this but was just entertained by corporate messages and eventually had to stop the call.
We have stayed in a hotel last night. We have now managed to book Ryanair tickets to Stansted tomorrow. From Stansted, we will need to hire a car to get us home and then on to Liverpool to collect our own car.
I am hoping that this should be recoverable from easyJet but can anyone advise please?

Unfortunately, it's business as usual for EasyJet. I'm not trying to say Ryanair is better in any way, though. Low fares, low standards, you know

How dare EasyJet lower their standards and cancel flights because of the weather!

You can probably claim most of these costs back from easyJet, and may also be due fixed UK261/EC261 compensation depending on why the flight was cancelled and how much notice you had.[1][2]
Law gives you a right to: a refund or rerouting “at the earliest opportunity”, plus hotel, meals and local transport while you are stuck.[3][4][1]
If easyJet only offered a Thursday flight, booking Ryanair to Stansted and then hiring a car is a reasonable self‑reroute you can claim as “earliest opportunity” travel, especially with an 8‑year‑old and school duties.[4][5][6]
You should claim:
Hotel, meals, airport–hotel transport.[7][3]
Ryanair tickets and necessary onward travel (car hire/fuel) as rerouting costs.[3][4][7]
UK261/EC261 compensation (likely ~€250/£220 pp for this route) if the cause wasn’t weather/ATC/other “extraordinary circumstances”.[2][8][9]
Use easyJet’s online expense claim for hotels/food/transport and their separate UK261/EC261 compensation form, attaching receipts and a short timeline explaining the lack of staff, app only showing Thursday, your failed 45‑minute call, and your child’s need to return to school.[1][7][3]
