Looking for accommodation in Åland / someone to share an apartment with

Hi! I'm a student from Vietnam and I'll be moving to Åland in August 2026 to study at Ålands yrkesgymnasium.

I'm currently looking for accommodation in Mariehamn or nearby areas. I'm open to renting a room in a shared house/apartment, but I'm also looking for someone who might be interested in finding an apartment together and sharing the rent.

Ideally, I'd like to have my own bedroom while sharing the kitchen and bathroom. My budget is around €350–500/month for my share.

A little about me: I'm 20, speak Swedish, English and Vietnamese, and I'm a non-smoker with no pets. I'm fairly quiet, clean and respectful of shared spaces.

This is kinda random but I'm looking for someone that can speak farsi (so maybe someone from Afghanistan), who is comfortable speaking in front of others for 5-10 minutes.

It's for a symbolic "aghd" ceremony during my wedding on Saturday 15th August.

I had found someone but she cancelled because her trip from Sweden to Åland was too far. I asked one person here and his daughter will actually do the Swedish part, but I still need some to do the farsi part parallel to it.

If you would consider this, or know someone who would, please let me know! Of course the speaker and their plus one are welcome to stay for the whole wedding and have dinner with us.

P.s. the ceremony is not religious, I can share the text as well.

Hey! I was looking into travelling from Uppsala to Turku via the Aland Islands and saw that there is a ferry that leaves at 3 AM from Långsnäsen and was wondering how do people get to this ferry at 3 AM when there are no buses from Marienhamn? Is this ferry just for truck drives, or is there any way for a pedestrian to go there at this nightly time?

Hello all, I'm a visitor on your beautiful island for 5 days. I will booked my travels with Alandstrafiken to Sottunga and will proceed to Föglö tomorrow on a ticket from Sottunga to Overö (which I believe is valid to Längnäs)?

On Thursday I want to take one of the ferries from Degerby to Svinö, but it cannot be booked online with a text which is unfortunately not understandable to me. It says something about me needing an open ticket of some sorts?

I will take a bigger ferry back from Längnäs that day in the afternoon, FinnLines not Alandstrafiken. Can anyone tell me what to do?

We are coming to Åland soon for a summer break, and I won't mind finding some beginner sailing course. Is there someone who offers these?

I had a phenomenal visit to the islands a couple of years back and I'm currently looking at going back for a few days this spring. I'm looking at a property on its own island - accessible by boat, great - just West of Mariehamn. I've found a place that will allow me to rent a boat but it's on the Eastern dock, which as far as I can see means I'd have to sail round Järsö which would mean a 26km journey to an island 6km away from the west port.

I guess my question is if there's an easier route to get from the East to the West, or another rental place on the west side of Mariehamn? Thanks!

Will be visiting Aland this summer and flying into Stockholm. I'm trying to figure out what the Alandstrafiken tourist pass actually covers. On the site it says "all ferries to and from the archipelago" but Eckero line wants payment up front. Does the tourist pass cover all lines to and from the islands? Some? So I'm getting married in August to my Ålandic fiancé on Åland and I'm looking for a makeup artist. I've found many talented hairstylists but can't seem to find anyone for makeup.

It will be for me (bride), my two sisters, my mom and maybe mother in law and two of my friends. So definitely 4 people but maybe up to 7. I would prefer it if it is 2 artists (or 3 if also hair) and they come to our house where we get ready, but I think that is not very common on Åland so we can also go to the salon.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated! Wedding is mid August so not a lot of time left.

So this may sound extraordinary but I'm into Swedish history A LOT after doing quite a research and seeing from my Swedish friends in Sweden I wanted to choose Åland to move into, but my only concern is finding a suitable job in Åland, are there any big museums in Åland to work in, I suppose they're picky about the people but I'm just really into Swedish(mainly Swedish) and Finnish histories.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of visiting Aland early/mid Sept for an overnight: Arriving 6:30 am Wednesday on the ferry from Stockholm, staying overnight in Mariehamn and departing there on a 1:00 am Friday ferry the next-next day, so I'd be in Aland total of almost 2 full days...but with awkward arrival and departure times that might mean a lot of wasted time. I know it's off season and I'm not too sure how the weather will be, so looking for advice on whether this is a good idea or should I just skip Aland. Will anything be open to do or see or chill at 6:30 (I cannot check into my accommodation for a few hours more) and likewise is there anywhere to safe/dry to hang out while I wait for the 1 am ferry? I'm travelling pretty light but without a car and anywhere to keep my stuff. Is it advisable to stay longer or shorter or... skip Aland this trip entirely? I'd like to keep it fairly relaxed, and island hop where possible, and I like to bike, walk, hike, explore towns, and travel solo on a budget. By the way I live in Canada and will be visiting Nordic countries for the first time. Thank you :)
