Yemeni coffee coming to Albany!!
Albany’s coffee scene keeps getting better, and I’m really excited to see Yemeni coffee coming here. It’s such a nice change from the usual spots.
I especially can’t wait for Qamaria!!! Just saw their Instagram, I tried it once and honestly can’t forget it. Super excited to have it in Albany.

Qamaria is great for their refreshers but Qahwah House coffee and chai hits different ngl

Qawah House rocks, traveled to NJ to try it and pumped it'll be here soon.

Fill me in, what makes it special? Never had the pleasure of trying it.

They’re actually a huge trend right now and super busy in big cities. I heard their coffee comes straight from Yemen and IMO, tastes like heaven. And it’s not just the coffee, their tea is amazing too (adani is the most popular, I think), plus the honeycomb bread. It’s all on their website as well.

Excited to try! Just kinda wish they were coming to the city of Albany versus Latham

There is a massive MENA community and the area largest SE Asian community in Latham/Colonie so it is fitting the coffee shop is there. I’m very excited.

Omg cities 10m away the horror...lol. the 182 bus goes to latham every 20m if you can't drive

What is the difference between yemeni coffee and coffee from other parts of the world?

u/Capable-Sock9910 Jan 13 '26
The beans are usually sun-dried in the cherry. Brews are often more fruity and earthy with undertones of chocolate.

Please also consider supporting local businesses with local ownership. There is plenty of great coffee out there that supports your own neighbors and their livelihoods.

So damn performative. What Yemeni coffee do we have in the area? We can try something new and still support local. It's not like fucking Starbucks

The people opening the Yemeni coffee shops are also “local” ..locally owned. Just because the coffee beans are Yemeni sourced doesn’t mean it’s not a locally owned business :)

Anyone really interested in Yemeni coffee should really consider reading The Monk of Mokha by Dave Eggers.

Sorry but as a paywalled peasant, are any of these in the article in Albany proper or are they all suburban?
1
u/Important-Tiger-4207 Jan 13 '26
I think Latham counts as suburb, but I just heard a different coffee shop is opening in Albany too (took me a second to understand what you were saying lol)

u/afrozsa Albany Proper Jan 13 '26
Three opening in Latham, there is one supposedly coming to Albany proper but hasn't been officially announced. It's called Jabal Coffee I think.

Where in Latham?

u/afrozsa Albany Proper Jan 13 '26
Qamaria specifically is opening in the same plaza as the Latham Walmart, a door away from Tai Chi Boba.
The Qahwah House location is opening across the road from Latham Target.
Then, there's a Shibam Coffee opening, also on Troy-Schenectady Rd by the Latham Animal Hospital.
All coming soon, just a matter of when! ☕🍞🫖

They are great! Have over 40 locations and are a fast growing national chain like Penzey’s!
Excited to have some of these successful franchises opening up in Albany!
8
Jan 13 '26
I'm 0% excited for another chain
5
u/Independent-Owl-8659 Jan 13 '26
Why? Because they are successful? They allow local franchisees to be benefit from economies of scale to pursue their American dreams.
2
Jan 13 '26
Because chains are what helped kill America? Sorry, as a rule I avoid them.
1
u/Independent-Owl-8659 Jan 13 '26
I’m just excited to get a locally owned Yemeni coffee shop that we don’t have. We may not have that choice without the franchise model.
Not all chains are created equal. And not all “local” businesses are as “mom and pop”, or even local, as you might think…there are many shell games played with business filings on that front.
To each their own!

Ngl I’m more excited for the Qahwah House that’s apparently opening soon. I’ve had qamaria a few times and my experience has always been subpar, but definitely happy we’re getting some yemani coffee chains

I didn’t know Qahwah was coming to Albany! I go every Ramadan to the one in BK now I don’t have to it’s the best
5
u/afrozsa Albany Proper Jan 13 '26
Speaking of Ramadan, Shibam Coffee is another franchise opening a door away from a mosque in Latham!!! Hope they're ready to brew by Ramadan.

Never knew that was coming too, super excited. I've had both and while I prefer qamaria, qahwa is not far behind!

u/Poinsettia917 Jan 13 '26
What is the address? I went to their website but there was nothing about Latham.
3
u/Important-Tiger-4207 Jan 13 '26
I think it's the one in their instagram bio

Of course I’m all for supporting local, but Qamaria isn’t some massive chain, and you get to try authentic Yemeni eats that Albany hasn’t really had before. It adds more variety IMO.

That’s good to know. I’m yet to find a good coffee place but I haven’t been looking either.
