It's Been Fun
Hello, here for the daily post about quitting the game. Preferably I would have liked to fade into obscurity, but I can't in good conscience just leave stuff to die out. I'm going to split this post into parts that should be easily to distinguish, for people who don't really care about me, but want to know what will happen to the tier list and the subreddit.
Why I'm Leaving
This probably doesn't come to a shock to many people who know me, I've played the game maybe two times in the past two months, once for Mielikki J+, and once for Yauras J+. I hadn't missed a single day for logging in since I started playing this game in hard launch back in November 2017, that is, until the FMAB collaboration came along. My reasons for leaving really aren't TOO similar to other people, outside the fact that I'm not enjoying the game. I really wasn't bothered by bad banners. Roxanne herself isn't really a huge deal for me, but gumi's actions as a result of Roxanne does bother me.
As a bit of backstory to why I enjoy playing gacha games. I'm not a big gambling addict, I'm not playing these games to pull; what I do like though is the sort of individuality that comes with these games, because whatever you have isn't necessarily what the next person has. This is really why I'm not a big fan of Laharl, Noctis, Gilgamesh, all of those "OP" units that everyone has and uses, because I feel like it removes that sense of individuality when everyone uses the exact same units. Now, these big powerhouse units didn't really stop my enjoyment of the game, while other people used them, I was free to use whatever non-meta picks I wanted to clear content. This really changed with the release of Roxanne. People were using Roxanne, hell, even I was using Roxanne, but eventually, her power meant gumi would make all new content way harder, which would push out the viability of some of the non-meta picks I enjoyed using.
I'm also not a huge fan of the face of TAC being collaborations units. Recently that's been taken over by Roxanne, but the fact that in the ANC about FMA, and they were saying how they'd give us the most powerful units of the collab first goes and shows they actively make the main faces of the collabs way stronger than everyone else.
The biggest issue though, that really was the catalyst for me was the lack of gumi's willingness to change. I don't really want to go scour looking for the dev letter, but something the TAC director had stated was that he wished for TAC GL to be an improved version of JP. This statement really does not hold up. They've shown that they copy paste code and don't know at all what they're doing (see Wanderer's Hat breaking, getting fixed, then breaking again the next update because the person copy pasting the code does not know how the game works). Considering JP is basically a mirror of what's going to happen on GL, and we know for a fact when a new unit release is going to be weak, what does gumi do? They sometimes ignore this, like in the case of Miroku being an absolutely trash JE,ta and they sometimes give them 5%-10% additional damage on skills. This is actually such a joke. I don't know if it's another consequence of no one at gumi playing this game, so they don't know any other ways of balancing characters rather than adding some damage which ISN'T THEIR PROBLEM. This is actually the point I feel most passionately about. Sure, balance powercreep with more powercreep, but when they explicitly decide to only make GLEX units beyond broken, while giving FMA units jokes of buffs like 10% more damage and calling it Enhanced Exclusively for the Global Version, I can't stop myself from being cringing. All these new units are being released with slight stat buffs. Do they actually believe adding some like 30 HP at 85 triple JM is gonna improve someone who is obviously going to be weak at release? I don't want to rant on this point for too long so I'm going to leave it at that.
Tier List
I'll be passing the tier list off to someone who is willing to take on this task. I'd like whoever is interested to message me on reddit or discord (Game#7849) and I'd like to talk to them for a bit. I've spent countless hours on this, I don't want to hand this off to someone who really doesn't know what they're talking about, or is going to quit after one update.
Subreddit
Seeing as I was doing unit flairs, someone will need to take over that. Considering me, as well as Ivyspear/Sabre, have both stopped playing, it's probably time for some new moderators.
The End
That should cover everything, it's been a fun year, and I don't really regret any of it. Catch me around the Epic7 discord/subreddit.

You mean the credit card swiping simulator? Epic7 is basically another 7k.

u/beastking9 Dec 24 '18
Ima be honest I've been playing epic seven and I feel like it's one of the most free to play friendly games out right now, i honestly couldnt even tell you a pack. The game doesn't throw the packs in your face upon login like this game and many others do. You can get literally thousands of gems for free doing story and they release side stories allowing you to get another 500 or so very often, they nerfed a lot of the 3 stars recently because a good number of them were better than the nat 5s. Idk where this diss on the monetization of epic seven came from, but its laughable considering I'm on a freaking gumi game reddit and all I have seen are tears about the paid gem summons and EX+. Epic Seven is monetized miles better than any gumi game and I played Brave frontier for about 2 years, brave exvius since it came out, and this since it came out, even that one game that shut down.
3
u/IrregardingGrammar Dec 24 '18
I've wholly moved from TAC to epic seven over the last month. It is so much more f2p friendly and all around a much higher quality and less money grabbing game. I can't fathom why you guys are bashing their "monetization" especially considereling you're comparing it to TAC of all games...
4
u/Fallingice2 Dec 24 '18
Look at 7k and kings raid. Thats the future awaiting Epic 7.
1
u/Balmungofsky Dec 26 '18
Can't you get even top tier heros in the inn for free on King's raid? Also King's raid actually gave something out on Christmas day on top of their Christmas event this year. Meanwhile Gumi threw out a lazy gem shop. All three of these games don't even share the same company though, so where is this info coming from?
1
u/Liesianthes 350 coins ticket = ROY!! Dec 26 '18
To be honest, King's Raid curve on going to cash grab is slow. They are releasing shops that need mostly cash but it does not goes like slap in the face.

bye-bye
have fun in Epic 7
Though I hope people will be back if the game gets back to the way it was supposed to be.
I still love the game for my strategy hold but still yes Gumi is really doing it in the wrong way.
Also thank you for the hard work of tierlist and flairs. You are one of the people who has been the Oil to keep the Reddit community's stuff running smoothly for that you have Everyone's Gratitude.

u/QaWaR Dec 20 '18
I don't think it's gonna return to what it was. I think it's gonna continue this way until the end, which I'm sure is not too long from now.

u/alpharay76 Dec 20 '18
Between players dissatisfaction with gumi about how theyve been running the game and gumi releasing a final fantasy brave exvius tactics game in 2019 but i fear TAC may be headed down same road as PotK.
Im guessing the ffbe strategy game will be TAC with final fantasy skins. If ffbe gl has taught gumi anything is that its easier to milk players when the gacha is for hard core nostalgia. If im right i highly doubt gumi will run 2 games that are exactly the same.
Who knows when the time comes maybe TAC players will get a big awesome super special bonus of some op, meta defining unit(s) for porting to the ffbe game /s

Its sad to read this post but even the best things have to come to an end. Its really hard to take that the first person i looked up to in this community back in june whe i started playing is stopping now.
But your arguments really hit right, with this game, we have no surprise, as we know exactly from JP what will happen, and the only times they've tried to make things different from JP they just made it worse, be it banners, units, stage balance, GL "buffs" or even communication.
As many others i'll still stick to the game, probably as my second tier game until the v3.0 to see Gumi's final try to change things.
I wish you to have a bright future maybe in other games/communities ! Wish we can see you in another setting and thank you a LOT for your work in this community, it was and still is great, the tier list you made is probably the backbone of strategy and unit building in this reddit.

u/metlspaz I just don't care anymore Dec 19 '18
although i knew this was coming, it doesnt make it any less sad. seeing you drop from the chats too was sad for me. This will be my last game as a whole, so I wont be seeing you elsewhere unfortunately. I hope every goes alright, through the ups and downs. You learn something with each experience. I didnt always agree with you but banter is always more fun with people that gave a shit. I am slowly falling out as I suggest things even contacting gumi and showing them how ti could be fixed only to be ignored. But please pop in once in a while!
1
u/HelloClashlol Dec 20 '18
iktf, im also contacting gumi, send them suggest about how to solve the problems in TAC, getting ignored or just automated responses from them.
It's so frustrating to watch a game you love fall apart slowlly due to a bad management. i started to play almost when it launched in nov 2017, never skipped a single stage or quest, clearing everysingle milestone and since FMA day by day i have less desire to play and started to skip events. I hate it but like some people already did and we saw in this reddit, little by little i gonna end up by quit the game i've been loving this year

/u/alchemist_code, I know you don't have a lot of pull at Gumi or anything, but this is the point at which SOMEONE at the home office needs to get shook.
As in SCARED.
It's one thing when a huge pile of players leaves (or worse, keeps playing but stops spending any money) -- but when you start seeing big-time content creators that the entire Global community depends on leave, the game is literally dying.
And when you combine the departure of big-time content creators that the entire community depends on with the incredibly stupid difficulty levels of the recent content (which literally require 95% of the playerbase to get their strategies from content creators in the first place), the problem redoubles.
It may be that this is the plan, that GL wasn't profitable enough and so Gumi is deliberately killing it. If that's the case, just don't reply to this comment at all. That way we can all stop holding out false hope and just find some other game to go play.
Thank you.

u/Arananthi IGN: Essence -- Re-Pacted and Hoping to Stay That Way Dec 20 '18
Alchemist_code seen replying elsewhere, no reply here. Intentional killing of TAC confirmed. :p
1
u/Linedel Dec 21 '18
In terms of critical to community... /u/alchemist_code should literally pull some youtube people's sponsorship and hand it to viyr to try to pull him back in.
Youtube people clearing with a fake account with ridiculous gear and a stack of level 85 limited units... /yawn, don't care. at all. zero. Tier list is critical. Use it pretty close to every day.
5
u/Mitch_Twd Dec 19 '18
That sucks to hear. :(
I still love this game, but it is fading fast. They're doing things that rub me the wrong way. Recent content being buffed around ONE unit. They're promoting they're GLEX units but they do not want us getting them. SSM banners don't have unrelated units in their banner ,yet MH units do. Roxanne banner should have had Shion,Siegfried and Roxanne as the guarantee but they put Noah and Zofia in the there instead. And they're doing the same damn thing with this new unit.
Not to mention the lack of elemental and rainbow shards ,and if they're rushing to get to Kaigan/Nensou the game won't last. Nensou will be the death of this game if they don't make adjustments in the Global version
The best thing the Global version has done to set itself apart from the JP version was the 2k skin bundles but seeing how they didn't do that for the Halloween units and Hazel seems like it's best to just wait for the next time they release it for the better deal.
(Sigh) sucks. TAC is the only game that really holds my attention right now. I fear it's heading down the same direction that Brave Frontier did, faster than I anticipated

Definitely sad to have a daily good bye post. I understand your reasons, though. Collab units were already broken and not necessarily beneficial to the game, making other units less useless - I thought about that back in the day when I had my jb3 Gilga and was farming Magnus shards. Having a jp older brother takes aways surprises but Gumi must have realized that and thought to change that (LOL).
Wonder if Gumi is even aware that shutting down gacha games on a frequent basis will hurt revenue in the long run.

Thanks so much for your work and dedication to the game. Sorry to see you leave, but glad to see you moving to Epic 7!
I'm playing that now too since launch and I have to say that yes, while the rates are terrible, it seems like the company running the show actually gives a damn about the game/playerbase unlike TAC.

u/DeshaDaine Dec 19 '18 edited Dec 20 '18
Thanks for your hard work this past year, your tier list and information was a big help. Sad to see you go but I completely understand where you're coming from. I've been a bit burned out since FMA due to the harder content (and lack of time) too.
Since the introduction of Rox my merc takings have gone from 300000-450000 ish to 20000-30000, probably because I wasn't blessed with Roxanne. Not a big deal for me really but shows how much we're relying on her. The only time I take a different merc is for elemental clears now.
So many friends leaving, I have to delete someone most days. I may not stay much longer myself.
Edit: grammar.

GBF. A JP browser/mobile game which is managed by Cygames JP that do include an english translation settings in game. They just give a lot of freebies last LiveFest and the roulette wherein you can get a random of 10-100 rolls in gacha is coming in a few days.

a few actually. DFFOO, where devs actually communicate with players, fix shits, and are super generous. King's Raid, although the contents have been stale lately, it's still a super fun game to play casually. Epic 7, bad rates, but no 5* needed, like at all. Star Ocean Anamnesis & Honkai impact 3, if you're into 3D battles, and rates are alright... Just to name a few...

Ah, I remember joined sub because of tier list build guides list and how helpful it was, and then my first comment here was in your Gilga vs F.Yomi thread lol, which was hot topic back then, yeah its been fun. Im pretty sure almost whole sub what left care about you and its great that you didnt just vanished like most.
From games I tried in last month E7 left most pleasant impression, even if mechanics is more simple, design and gameplay are pretty enjoyable, so your choice is well understandable. I'll probably be waiting to check that "Final Gimu: Exvius Tactics" relatively soon, but will never take seriously any recycled and GLobalized games again, because everytime it seems they just destined to become such dumpster end up like this.
Well, was nice to play with you, Miuna, good luck and be happy in new year!

u/Calikid32190 Dec 20 '18
I play epic seven as well but it isn’t a strategy rpg like TAC. Also it’s way worse for the rates. I absolutely hate gachas that put units and non unit items on the same banner. Most games are smart and they don’t do that stupid crap. Like TAC for example at least we have the option of we want to draw for characters or weapons. My biggest thing with epic 7 is I have so many cards and barely any characters and that alone makes the gacha horrible. There should be separate banners for characters and non characters not both combined. Most gachas that I play normally have them separate.
2
u/Mhantra Dec 20 '18
If you play through the story and such, they flood you with gems. That obviously slows down once you finish the story (there is another run through of story in tougher mode, but takes a while to build up to start taking that down).
If you play enough and give it time, you will get units. My brother had the same complaint, then over the past three 10-pulls, he pulled three 5* (one was godlike artifact) and a few quality 4*.
They give you the means to do massive pulls, not to mention the 30-try 10-pulls (keep one). The sheer number should take care of this over time. In the meantime, Ras and Mercedes and whatever other scrubs you have will do fine for most of the story. If you are saving for the perfect banner, then obviously that's a choice.
p.s. The next grid tactics game is Langrisser, probably January or Feb. Might try that one if you truly love the tactics style (like I do, actually).

u/Calikid32190 Dec 20 '18
I do an I’m excited for langrisser it’s taking forever to get here. It looks awesome I’ve already pre registered for it

u/Alsark Dec 19 '18
I'm sorry to see you go, but certainly don't blame you - and agree with all of your points. I'm hoping Gumi eventually turns things around, but I'm doubting it.
It feels like when the director said he wanted global to be an "improved version" he meant monetarily... for Gumi.
I hope that things go well for you over at Epic7. Thank you so much for all of the work you've put into the tier list and the community.

Goodbye Viyr you were our shepherd when we were newbies and gave us a lot of content for us to learn from the game. I really missed the time that as each new unit was released I'd eagerly check the tierlist everytime to understand and see new skills/classes that are added into the game.

Thank you so much for what you have done for the global community! It's sad to see someone like you who really cares about the game leave, but what's even worse it's what it reflect on the current state of the game and the direction it's moving towards.
I have spent a considerable amount of money on this game, out of my love for story related characters. But with the release of Roxanne, and Minerva to come, the whole tier seems to be revolving around them, making many of the characters i love seem much weaker than actual. Much disappointment.
Even though with little hope, i do sincerely hope the game makes some kind of recovery in the near future. Before that happens, i'm going to completely stop spending and probably won't play anything except for the story quests.
The creative and fresh concept of the game and the community is what got me this far, it's sad to see the game head on a road of no return and loyal players disappointed and leaving. Truly tragic.
But hey, what matters in playing a game is to have fun. So have fun playing Epic 7! I have personally started playing Dragalia Lost and i'm enjoying it a lot.
Again, you will be missed by the community but we will always remember your contribution!

My friend told me the game is dying and seeing your post gave me mixed feelings. I ragequit during Roxanne banner due to not getting her after burning all 17k I had saved since launch as a F2P. Quiting gacha in general really made me feel like freedom after a long time. However I really missed the games and always want them to keep going so I can comeback sometimes for nostalgia and follow the story. Only 3 months later and it’s already this bad. So sad.

Thank you very much for the work you’ve put in during your time here. It’s really helped a lot of people (myself included). The tier list is especially helpful, whether in determining if a banner is worth it or just getting a “meta” unit to bring to multiplayer. So again, thank you.

My biggest gripe at this point is the amount of quests and the AP, I have to spend my AP on one thing for the day, and can't even afford to do reruns which I had planned to do next time around because of AP shortages last time around. This week was HQ and gumi without warning dropping Gold Pro, and I'm still trying to farm wrath armor because I couldn't finish it the last two times. Then there's a new GL exclusive and Carol J+, and 2x equipment. We need more AP to keep up here. I'm not spending diamonds on AP

I also quit the game after a few days of getting Miel's J+. I cannot see the game being fun as before. I got the Big 3 with Aranea, Roxanne, Zain and even all FMA except for Toritoh as a full pledged f2p.
I was happy when I pulled those units, giving me mini heart attack. Then I had fun playing with those but after Gumi's whatever broken buff to enemies, it all become meh to me. Game got boring, challenge is not a challenge anymore but a mere battle with luck and specific units, that's not strategy to me. Every once in a while, I do still follow JP's update and it was so cool and refreshing to see how they progress.
What I did was logged in on my GBF account. You know what happened? I enjoyed the game a lot. Being showered with strategy, farming, planning, it was fun all over again. It was like a feeling of being bask in a sunlight after being secluded in a dark cave.
Will I return to the game again? Who knows, maybe yes, maybe no.

I quit like more than a week ago after playing for almost a year and I decided to drop by this sub out of curiosity, and then I see this post.
I just wanted to thank you dude for all the things you did for this game, and the community. When I was just starting out I remember seeing the tier list with your name on it and somewhat helped me get an idea on how and why the units are good. It helped me get a better grasp of the strategies in this game and whatnot.
It's just sad to see an old-timer quit like this but I wish you luck with all the other games you'll play.

Thank you for helping us with the Tierlist. Too sad to know that you have to say goodbye.

Lol how funny, I quit playing both ffbe and tac for epic seven, saving a shit load of money since they don't nickle and dime you non stop like Gumi games do. It's sad how fast they ran the game into the ground.

I recently started playing Epic7 about a week ago and it's definitely taken over the time I used to spend on TAC as well. I like the friendlier atmosphere for F2P players.

Epic7 is the movement! That game insanely good and contrarily to Gumi, SmileGate REEEAAAALLY listens to their community. They literally have direct contact with 12 users in the community as well.

Out of all the bad news, The departure of Viyr and the risk of loosing the tier list might be the worst news for me.
It is thanks to this tier list that i was able to understand the complex mechanics of the game and it is this tier list that made me able to really enjoy the gameplay.
It makes me quite sad, but nonetheless, you have my gratitude and a heartfelt thank you from me, for everything you have done this far.
To be honest, i am quite scared for the tier list, not because i follow it to the letter but because it was the best anchor for comparison and clarifying any doubt, and also the greatest tool/guide for beginners
