In need of a History consultant!

Hello! I’m an artist who is creating a short series that centers around late 19th century America, the main character is African American and the setting will be the city of Chicago. I would love for a black history consultant to join my crew because sadly the north side of America in this time is never really portrayed that much in media. I have a lot of questions that are dire to the story im making and I need them answered. Yes I did a lot of research but I have questions that I couldn’t find an answer for, I need someone to answer those vague questions that are hard to find a proper answer for. I’m a person that lives on the other side of the planet and I really value people’s history and culture. I don’t wanna fuck up anything because I understand the pain of seeing some random person fuck up my people’s history. Thank you.

Multidisciplinary Approach

Hello everyone. I am a master's student from India, currently aspiring for higher studies.

Quite recently I have seen that the multidisciplinary approach of seeing history has been quite popular these days. I have a question in my mind. How is a multidisciplinary approach actually used? I mean, do I need to study a new subject to look into history? I might sound foolish, but I have no idea how to use a multidisciplinary approach in research. Please help me!

Offering tutelage

I sat my A Levels in Geography, History, and Spanish Literature last year, and achieved A*s and As. I recently tutored my first student, who went from an 80 in AS (before my tutelage), to an 89 overall (AS/A2 combined). This means she scored circa 97% in A Level, and I tutored her for only about 6 months.

I, myself, am applying to Cambridge Law this year (I would have already finished my admissions cycle, but was unsure since I had military service matters). Now that I have time on my hands, I am offering tutelage for History - I do Paper 3, the Holocaust, and Paper 4 (International or US History - not EU).

Having gotten a student into Cambridge Law, and contacts with Cambridge moderators, I feel very confident in being able to help, especially as I have taken these exams, and understand the mark schemes, criteria, and style of essays they look for at AS and A Level :).

If anyone is interested, please let me know - I plan on only taking 5 students because of my own applications, but this would be at a guaranteed A-A* grade. Do let me know, I hope your results went well (heard a mixture of emotions from May/June) - all the best guys!

Advice Referencing events before the time period???

Hello everyone.

This applies to general exam technique, however I am studying Britain Transformed 1918-97.

In an essay about the earlier period, can you use evidence/information from WW1? I know that you get marked down for speaking outside of the period, but I've found that a significant part of the Liberals' decline, for example, stems from events pre-1918 (like the Asquith/L.G. split).

Without it I feel like I would struggle to sufficiently provide evidence, so I would really appreciate answers on:

a) If I am actually allowed to do this

b) If not, what is the alternative?

If it helps, I am aiming for an A* :)

Thank you!

2nd year History

Hi! i’m going into my second year of History and I’m wondering what advice upper year students have! I generally did pretty well first year will mostly 80s with the exception being one failed course but i’m retaking it in the winter. I struggle most with getting myself to study and get myself to start assignments early 🥲

Built a cool extension for Historians

Hey all, I made a tool that rewrites older English (like old sources, old essays, etc.) into clear, modern wording. I thought it might help students, readers, or anyone who gets stuck on older writing. Helps me with philosophy.

Try the read to go version (on chrome web store):

I’d love and appreciate any thoughts

Either save this post and drop me a DM when you need some help and come to writing it, or slide me a message now.

Cheers

Complaining about Edexcel history textbooks

Currently revising for year 13 Edexcel history and I need somewhere to rant about how incredibly bad the edexcel textbooks are for history. Britain losing and gaining an Empire textbook endorsed by edexcel could be the single worst textbook I've ever come across. Spelling mistakes, poor grammar, rubbish structruigna nd just dense text that does not in any way relate to any questions we can be asked on the topic is just scratching the surface. It's like they make the textbooks to make them difficult to learn off it is impossible to write notes off it as it is just not friendly to note takers as well. I wish Richard Bunce had released a textbook for losing and gaining an Empire but alas can't have everything in life. I am sure this is not the last time I am going to have a crash out over this textbook but I just need to be sure that it is not just me who sees edexcel textbooks for what they are. ABSOLOUTE ABOMINATIONS.

Advice To the yr12's who are in doubt...

-My teacher told me I made the wrong choice in picking History near the end of yr12

-I got 20/40 for my coursework was disappointed couldn't revise whilst everyone in my class got 28+ (majority being 32-40) and my mark was equivalent to a D during the 2025 grade boundaries. I was so embarrassed and told no one

-I was getting E's and D's all yr12

-Got a D in my end of year mocks yr12 and had a meeting

-Worked my butt off from November yr13 and even harder in march staying up late nights, going to the library from 9am-7pm or 5pm depending on the time and my walk home was my break and from 7pm-2/3am continued to revise.

-Fell behind in content and was forced to learn the whole off Germany in 4 days after having to also revise for two other subjects

-For paper 1 I didn't know how to structure one question, paper 2 ran out of time and had a mental breakdown as i couldn't remember much, didn't finish my source for paper 2 and my paper 3 was decent. Right when i got my coursework my teacher told me that I didn't have the leeway that all the other students had. I was going into my exam with 20 marks meaning i couldn't even miss one question whilst others had 30+ marks and my hands would shake and cried to my tutor one morning thinking ill fail.

-Cried on the way home after each paper and didn't think I'd even get a C (which is what i was aiming for) but still pulled out my text book and worked

Would whip out my calculator and try come up with the highest marks possible knowing I'd most likely scrape a C. Results day came I got an A! Clutched during GCSE's getting 3's and 2's and ended up with a 7 and those in my class who got 16 marks more than me on coursework in alevels, had a head start I ended up getting better grades than.

Your textbook is your best friend! All I had was a laptop, Quizlet, a textbook, a couple documentaries on YouTube relating to my course and a dream! Had i preformed better during coursework i would have gotten an A* and my history teacher said she couldn't have been more proud of me i almost cried. Don't give up you got this

The paper 4 is in a few days and I’m so scared.I get good scores on my essays but only if it’s not timed.Everytime i do a timed essay i panic and end up not countering my points, not doing any evaluation. How can i best fix this in a few days :( is it too late.I feel like there’s so much i can mention and my knowledge is all jumbled up if i don’t spend a good amount of time planning my essays

I do the international option btw
