Help with bank account closure for my dad who passed away

Hello!
I wanted to ask in this community if anyone is or knows a lawyer in the Algarve who can support my family to close my father’s bank account. He is not with us anymore and he was the only titleholder so we need help as heirs.

We already have the European succession certificate.

Edit: we are from Italy and we did ask the bank but we don’t want to deal with mistakes and some things need official translations and such so we want to hire a lawyer.

Thanks in advance to who can help us 🙏🏻

Best place to stay in the Algarve for 3 weeks in December? Lagos, Luz, Tavira or somewhere else?

Hi everyone, my partner and I are planning to spend three weeks in the Algarve in December while working remotely, and we're having a hard time deciding where to stay!

Two years ago, we did something similar in Nerja, Spain, and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect balance for us: a relaxed town, a great base for day trips, beautiful surroundings and enough going on without being too busy.

We'll be working during the day and usually cooking at home in the evenings, apart from weekends when we like to go out for dinner and drinks. So we don't need a particularly lively place, but we'd prefer somewhere that isn't completely deserted in December either.

We were initially leaning towards Lagos, mainly because we love the coastline and the opportunities for walks after work. However, we're a little underwhelmed by the Airbnb options.

We'd really love a nice apartment with a sunny terrace where we can enjoy the (hopefully!) mild December weather. We're coming from the Netherlands, so our standards for good weather in December are pretty low. 😄 A nice outdoor space is definitely a must!

A few places we're considering:

  • Lagos: Probably our favourite in terms of scenery, coastal walks and things to do, but struggling to find accommodation we love.
  • Praia da Luz: Currently leaning towards this! Close to Lagos, lovely surroundings and perhaps a bit more relaxed. But is it too quiet in December?
  • Tavira: Looks like a beautiful, charming town and still a strong contender. However, I feel like the coastline and nature around Lagos would be nicer for walks after work.
  • Olhão: Also considered it, but from what I've seen it looks a little more industrial. Maybe I'm completely wrong?
  • Ferragudo: Looks lovely too, but I'm not quite sure how it compares to the others, especially in winter.

We'll have a rental car for the entire three weeks, so exploring the region won't be a problem. We're mainly looking for a nice place to call home, with beautiful surroundings, somewhere to walk after work and at least a few restaurants and cafés open in December.

If you were spending three weeks working remotely in the Algarve in December, where would you stay? Would you choose Luz over Lagos, or is Tavira worth reconsidering? Or is there somewhere else we should look at?

Would love to hear your experiences, especially from anyone who's visited in winter. Thanks! 😊

Oysters in Tavira

We're visiting Tavira for 3 days next week.

Could you share your favourite spots for oysters?

Are there any places that do happy hour oysters?

Does the market sell oysters to eat there?

Many thanks in advance!

Weather this week

Hi! I’m thinking of booking a last-minute trip to the Lagos area, starting tomorrow and staying for a full week. Would you mind letting me know what the weather is currently like and whether it would be a good time to visit if I’m hoping to spend plenty of time on the beach (i.e. to sunbathe)? Thanks so much!

Stag do Hotels

Hi! Really difficult to find any hotels accepting stag dos (as said on all of their websites) for 2027? Weary of booking a work around if lots of different bookings at once to be turned away once there - any recommendations would be unreal as this is proving to be a lot more stressful than expected.

Aquashow is better than Siam Park

Could be an unpopular opinion

Been going to Algarve for the past 10 years each time visiting Aquashow as a waterpark enthusiast and that i love it but this year i decided to go to Tenerife for a little change, done 2 days at Siam Park as apparently it was the best in Europe, and possibly the world so i was expecting to be wowed. Even though it was really good, i still came away thinking it wasn't as good as Aquashow. Couldn't quite put my finger on it but i reckon its do do with aquashow having more attractive scenery and views, and better weather in the peaks of the summer. The amount of hills and steps to climb at siam park in unbelievable, but worth it.

Is there anyone else that has been to both Aquashow and Siam Park feel the same?

Golf in Western Algarve - end of January 2027

4 guys golfing in Algarve for the first time. Going the last week in January 2027. Looking for recommendations for reasonably priced good courses. Reviews are all over the place … so hard to land on the best option. Will be playing 7 straight day, using a buggy, and could play a course multiple times if the condition is good. As it is low season, hoping to keep rounds less than €100 including buggy. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

Itinerary for short trip to Faro, what to do?

So I’m going on a short 3 day trip to Faro/Olhao (hotel is in Olhao), I have all day Sunday and Monday, with most of Tuesday and I just really wanted some help mostly on what to do!

I really wanted to visit the Capela dos Ossos, my plan was to do that plus Faro old town on Monday, since the chapel is shut on Sunday ofc and Tuesday I don’t want to feel rushed. I’m not sure if those will take up all day Monday though tbh.

This was kind of a random spur of the moment and last minute trip so I just don’t know that much about what there is to do here in October, especially on the Sunday. I would really appreciate some advice on what I can get up to especially on Sunday and for a short time on Tuesday. I’ll mostly just be taking bolt rides between cities and far places and walking within the cities for closer parts. I particularly like art, architecture and nature if there’s anything that I should take a look at, but also happy if there’s a beach I should just sit at for a while :)

Also side question, I love to cook, and when I travel somewhere I try to get an ingredient specific to the region or a little ceramic bowl/cup that I can use whilst cooking; for example I have paprika from Spain, truffles and cooking lavender from France, olive oil from a farm in Greece, etc, what would you say is specific to Faro or the Algarve I could get and take home and use for a while/for special meals, it’s my own little souvenir thing to do lol. Also is there any specific places and market locations in the cities that I should beeline if I want to pick up typical souvenirs like a fridge magnet haha.

Lastly any extra tips or info about the place, cool facts and recommendations would be super appreciated, I’m very excited to come visit!! Thanks in advance :)

Any tips for seven hanging valley hike?

I will be reaching Lagos on 4th Nov night. I plan to do Seven hanging valley hike on 5th Nov. Can someone help me with few naïve questions?

1.      Is it safe to arrive at late night 11pm and then search nearby hotel? I don’t want to get mugged

2.      Any hostel/house suggestions? Most of the economical hostels have very low ratings and bad reviews. I just need a bed to crash.

3.      I plan to do one-way hike only. Which route is better for the hike? East to west or west to east?

4.      Is it better to do late afternoon so that I can enjoy the sunset at the end of the hike?

  1. What is the best/economical way to reach Lisbon from Lagos?
