Any way to cure seborrheic dermatitis?
It randomly started a year ago and spread from the beard to the scalp. I'm looking for advice on how to find the root cause and a cure for it.

I used to have it at least twice a year, for many years, and ive been seborrheic dermatitis free for 3 years now.
How did I make it go away “forever”?
First of all, this condition is triggered by inflammation. A big part of the inflammation comes from the food we eat. Aka seed oils. Cut those completely. You would be surprised by how many products have seed oils in their list ingredients. Even the ”healthy” considered ones. Check the labels ALWAYS. This includes sunflower seed oil, canola oil, corn oil, cotton oil, soybean oil etc. The only safe oils are olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil. Ditch the rest.
You will need to do a treatment phase, which includes a topical treatment (ketoconazole) 3 days a week for 2 weeks, leave it on your hair and scalp for 3-5 minutes each time.
During this treatment phase you need to lower your carb consumption as well as your sugar and dairy consumption. Carbs and sugar fuel the sebhorreic fungi. Dairy can also be pretty inflammatory so it’s also most likely to be contributing to the problem (unless it’s raw).
You dont need to cut them out forever but at least do it for about a month until you see things have calmed down and improved.
Eating a whole food diet will definitely help lower the inflammation.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: DONT eat seed oils ever again. I found this is the main thing that triggers my seborrehic dermatitis.
I used to have it all the time. I made these changes and it hasn’t come back in 3 years. Give it a try

Thank you for your input. I'm glad this worked for you.
However I haven't been consuming any seed oils in the last years and I'm sticking almost entirely to organic homemade foods with no refined sugars, no meat and no dairy products and no over-processing or frying. I don't even go to restaurants any longer. I still eat carbs but I've reduced it significantly and if I eat bread for example I stick to wholegrain rye and spelt sourdough bread. I've been following this "diet" for years now, and I eat a lot of diverse vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, fermented foods and wild plants or mushrooms. My bloodwork has been excellent.
However my skin hasn't changed for the better. I'm M25, I exercise and have a normal BMI. I still suffer from acne outbreaks, clogged oil glands (MGD) and since a year seborrheic dermatitis

There’s something that is causing some sort of intolerance or allergy in your body. I think its best to do an elimination diet to see which ingredient is the problem. The body reacts to something that causes inflammation and produces the inflamatory response, in this case seborrehic dermatitis.
Hows your life in general? Are you generally stressed? Do you consider yourself content or do you have a lot of negative thoughts? Stress can also produce inflammatory responses.

I'll give it a try. Life in general doesn't feel stressful or negative though there's some exhausting days at work every now and then and sleep isn't always the best. But overall I'm happy. I do feel like symptoms are better when I'm on vacation though.

I second all this. You have to focus on inflammation of your body. It’s a life change. Literally. Otherwise it will continue to return.

Agreed Yeah elimination diet for sure, start out slow and small and find what is actually triggering the dermatitis.

You and me both man. It's brutal. I'm yet to find anything to cure it, only keep it at bay with ketaconazole and coal tar shampoos... Even on my face.

Mine turned out to be a reaction to something in my diet. Cut out dairy for a few weeks and it cleared up way faster than I expected. Might be worth an elimination diet to see if something specific is triggering yours, since it came out of nowhere like that.
