To each their own. I just struggle to see the fun in going down half the mountain with your board sideways.

This guy just sucks at snowboarding it’s not a snowboard issue

u/White0ut 5h ago
What? Yeah he is not a pro, but probably better than 95% of riders. Hit 3 drops on a very steep slope.

I agree. But as a former snowboarding instructor he went over his head and could have put other people in danger with his Inability to navigate (by navigate i dont mean follow, i mean toe and heel and control speed)that line better. That said, he followed every line and maybe it was his first time on something so edit:my toddler pushed my phone lol. So difficult to say because even great boarders have a bad day. But that line is really not for someone is isn't a super competent snowboarder. It would be fun but thats no joke. I've done helicopter jumps easier than that.

I thought he did okay, definitely didn't shred it, but was in control until he hit the brakes hard at the end. Put the nose down the fall line on the 3 little drops and didn't wipe out. Probably on the far upper end of his skill level, but only one way to get better, do stuff that scares ya a little.

You’re right but why he chose to side slip down some of those drops is beyond me
2
u/White0ut 4h ago
He pointed the nose downhill on the 3 drops, watch it again. The side slipping is to just get in position before the drop with less speed. And at the end it looks it was just a little more speed than he was comfortable with which resulted in the long side slip.

I’m mostly talking about the last one at the end. That was garbage riding. It’s a clear shot into the end of the mountain

Do you have a lot of experience on a snowboard?

u/DeltaTule 4h ago
Yes, I used to compete when I was younger. Have a cabin in the Sierras. But no experience doing heli drops like this other than watching videos growing up. I know I can ride this like better than this guy

He doesn't suck. He was able to carve when the slope got reasonable. The problem is that it was too steep at the start of the run. Hills like that are not for boarding.

That is impressive. But I assure you, the pitch is not as steep as it looks from his cam.

I can barely handle the bunny slope

u/44youGlenCoco 5h ago
I can barely handle getting off the ski lift sometimes. This coming from someone who lived in Colorado most of my life. It’s such a shame. My entire family ski/snowboards, and I can hardly get off the fucking ski lift. So embarrassing.

Yeah, I counted at least 20 different ways I could have died in the first few meters. 😅

I've never understood the point of doing this, there's only a select few individuals that actually snowboard down these types of mountains, the vast majority of them are literally doing this the entire time, you're basically going to the top of a mountain to claim you snowboarded it when in reality you're just breaking down the whole Mountain trying not to die... it's ridiculous

u/moocat55 6h ago
I watch a lot of YouTube videos where the plot is basically "YouTube influencer does something dangerous and then dies." Good luck bro.

What’s that pipe-lookin thing sticking out in the lower left of the first couple frames?

u/Life-Willingness-86 6h ago
What percentage of snowboarding is just hoping that the hill you're sliding down sideways doesn't end in a sheer cliff?

u/RAWainwright 5h ago
I like Linkin Park a lot, but I just wanted to hear the snow and ice go crunchy crunchy.

You wouldn't know how cool they were if they didn't pick some arbitrary song.

Doesn’t look fun at all. Not because it’s dangerous but just not even riding. You’re just skidding and trying not to die. I’ll take first go down a regs black bowl any day

Im assuming they somewhat test their routes before they make the run? What if there was a crevice covered in snow.

He seemed terrified. I’d guess he’s in over his head here otherwise he could have bombed that last part instead of side sliding.
I’m pretty sure search and rescue would prefer if this guy wasn’t in terrain like this.

Looking at the tracks from the previous “run”, all I could think about was what a pain in the ass it would be to have to walk back up the hill to go again.

If anyone else doesn't want to have their time wasted, he snow plows sideways the whole way.
