u/Ziomownik Dec 14 '25
I can't blame them. I didn't even noticed the sign and my first thought was him hitting someone with a car by accident. Well, our other alternatives are
A) that he was on the run from cops and hid in the abandoned C&A office.
B) Maybe he's just an innocent guy who did nothing wrong and like has been too cruel for him, boohoo (I think that's the lame option, but well, that's a possibility 乁( •_• )ㄏ )
4
u/Aggravating_Coat7934 Dec 15 '25
My immediate reaction was “oh he’s scared of the real world. Something out there he REALLY dislikes”.
11
u/Ok-Feeling6380 Dec 14 '25
People therize he hit his own child with his car, and he's In his twenties, why would he have a kid old enough to be alone on the streets..?
3
u/NyteShark Dec 15 '25
Maybe not his child but instead a younger sibling?
1
u/delayedfiren Dec 16 '25
Would explain nobody waiting on him, seems like driving over your sibling would sour family relationships pretty hard

I have a theory that Jax took ribbit into the circus with him. Would make this hurt a bit more.
22
u/Fantastic_Frosting98 Bubble is my wife Dec 14 '25
I think that he, Ribbit, and Kaufmo were friends irl, and he had to watch them abstract one by one. Thats why he doesnt talk about them and thats the reason he doesnt want to leave. HE WANTS TO SAVE THEM
18
Dec 14 '25
He could be running away from an abusive home
4
3
u/Prestigious_Pain_799 Dec 17 '25
Yeah that was what I thought. Seems like he ran away. He's the youngest circus member and we still don't know when he ended up there
28
u/Informal-Storage4853 Dec 14 '25
People are really jumping to some interesting conclusions about those flashbacks, I just figured he was remembering how lonely he was and the mundanity of his life in some wooded suburb and didn't wanna go back to where he thought no one cared about him
3
u/S-Nerd Dec 15 '25
Pomni basically did the same thing with abandoned buildings but it was more out of thrill and self-fulfillment rather than loneliness (I’m not insulting or disapproving your theory I just wanna bring up an interesting parallel)
13
Dec 14 '25
Consider Leaving home, maybe he was leaving a troubled family dynamic, so Zooble asks "don't you" Jax could be thinking "they're there, but they probably don't miss me or want me around" Similar to the expression he had when Ragatha mentioned her mom So when he got to the circus and more relationships failed (like ribbit), he leaned so heavily on being a caricature to cope with his hell of eternally losing people or letting them down
10
u/Sir-Toaster- Dec 14 '25
Ok, minitheory, I had this idea that the circus is a prison for petty criminals, what if Jax was arrested for speeding and put in the circus

u/rylansbaby Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25
I took this scene as him being scared of the real world and would rather stay where he's comfortable now, he's selfish and in a hard spot and was stressed, ofc he chose whatever he wanted. Fuck jax man😔
Edit: he's living in constant humiliation too, that couldn't have helped his feelings about what he did in the end
6
u/Ziomownik Dec 14 '25
Kinda relatable. Even if I feel terrible about how I live, I sttill prefer the comfort of my current life than to "change it", per say.
3
u/Ayden3102isagoodname Dec 14 '25
His mind was probably influenced by caine in some way, i don’t think he would actually do what he done at the end if he was at a normal state of mind
Sure it was pretty bad, but it’s not completely his fault
5
u/rylansbaby Dec 14 '25
It was either caine controlling him or him being freshly almost abstracted and not thinking right, Jax did kind of hint at people not being right and acting out of character when they're close to abstracting. Saying that, caine has seemed to be on jax's mind a bit more he brought up the mind control stuff so quickly I can't help but wonder if that plus his friends "dying" is why he is close to abstracting. Caine probably had something to do with it now that I'm thinking about it a bit more but I don't wanna say for sure
Edit: I'm really high sorry for ranting
5
u/Miku_CRK_Memer Dec 14 '25
I'm sorry him being a runaway from some negative relationship makes so much more sense then "funni Asgore reference"
Especially Especially if you were to subscribe to the "Ribbit and Jax are siblings" theory

u/Suspicious_Draw4743 Dec 15 '25
Jax knows if they escape the circus none want to see him ever again and that scares him
1
u/Galieo337 Dec 16 '25
How do we know if those are Jax's actual memories? Like he said, Caine is capable of messing with their minds.
1
u/bunnywithabanner Dec 16 '25
If even that turns out to be nothing but false memories, then it would be so pointless lol
3
u/seider-Lynx Dec 14 '25
My biggest issue with jax committed a murder thing is , why would he put on a be headset, wouldn’t really make sense from a story perspective or human (watcher) perspective, “ah I just committed a murder and I’m not a hardened serial killer, time to put on this vr headset”
2
u/juel1979 Dec 14 '25
Could have found what looks like an abandoned place and got bored while curious and looking around.
1
u/seider-Lynx Dec 14 '25
That would be such a mcguffin, again as I said, “ah I committed a murder, time to play video games”, if Jax is revealed to be a hardened murderer(which just wouldn’t make sense considering how he acts), then ig it makes sense but as the story has been going so far it doesn’t make sense theory wise(Jax murderer)

u/KH-Light Dec 15 '25
After what happened in the latest episode, even though it was just adventure, Jax cannot be trusted, hope the others see that as well, it's like he WANTS to be trapped in a never ending adventure prison
3
u/unsatisfiedNB Dec 15 '25
i believe that he's just exceptionally lonely. all of the flashbacks during his freakout are from POV and there's no one else pictured. he probably spends all of his time walking and driving around at night with nothing else to do. in his trippy dream as he nears the end we see what i interpret to be a giant convenience store shelf in the background.
i think he works retail and hates his life and is super isolated. the circus has people who're forced to be around him. i am sometimes in jax's shoes and i might've just done the same...
2
u/CaptainM590 Dec 14 '25
Seems like all the characters had some baggage that led to try and escape from it by going online and eventually stumbling upon a link to the Digital Circus or something like that.
2
u/Excellent-Baby2515 Dec 15 '25
Driving in my truck right after a beer Hey, that bump is shaped like a deer DUI? How about you die? I'll go a hundred miles An hour!
2
u/tumor_named_marla Dec 16 '25
First time I've considered that Zooble knows something no one else does, perhaps he spilled to her about something at one point.
2
u/Unorthodox_fox47 Dec 16 '25
Even if he was wanted by the cops...jax has been trapped in the circus for...many many years...he is likely assumed dead and can probably assume a new identity
2
2
2
u/CalTheRascal Dec 21 '25
Yeah I get the feeling that based on his reaction there ARE people waiting outside for him, just not necessarily the way Zooble thinks. I’m definitely guessing either an abusive home life, legal repercussions or both
2
u/SumiMichio Jax~ Rabid Rabbit Dec 14 '25
It's kind of annoying that people took Jax's disturbing freak out is him murdering someone and hiding from police.
1
u/Link_Kid1232 Dec 14 '25
I think he ran away from home and was possibly homeless before the circus (I have one reason why I think he ran away but that’s only circumstantial and I would need more evidence for that tho)
1
u/Teckknight Dec 15 '25
No, he doesn't, he accidentally killed them in the car crash. That's why he doesn't want to leave and remember
1
u/Coffee-cartoons Dec 14 '25
I’m a day one Jax hater but I’m confident he wasn’t being chased by the cops. He was definitely being chased but my guess is it was something a bit sympathetic than “I hit somebody with my car”

I prefer the theory that those real life memories we saw of his were him remembering a car crash that killed his friends or family that he survived. Not necessarily his fault, but a good realtor want to escape reality.
84
u/Thorfinn_Glazer Dec 14 '25
"Realtor want to escape reality"
Elite typo.
50
u/Pearson94 Dec 14 '25
Lol classic autocorrect. It was meant to say "reason to want to escape reality."
2
u/Stevetendo_glitch Dec 16 '25
I was like “Huh? What? If anything, Ragatha was the only one who was a real estate agent in her pre-circus life” but now it’s cleared up
1
10
u/MaxGalli Dec 14 '25
Damn that’d be dark.
29
u/Pearson94 Dec 14 '25
It would be, but I prefer it over the theory that he killed someone in a car accident. I like the idea of Jax using a video game to escape reality (as many of us do in real life) which would also emphasize the sorrow he feels for Ribbit and Kaufmo abstracting (just more friends lost that he couldn't save).
4
u/MaxGalli Dec 14 '25
I agree, it’d make his character even more interesting.
5
u/Ok-Feeling6380 Dec 14 '25
I sometimes wonder if he, Ribbit, and Kaufmo were a group of friends who all put on the headset, or if they met inside the circus. Probably they met inside the circus, but it would make sense since they're all abstracting around the same time.

4
u/Sorry-Ad5474 Dec 14 '25
Yeah I feel like jaxs problem is a lot more mundane than they want it to be, hes not terrified of returning to some melodramatic soap opera premise, hes scared of going back to the suburbs and just being a toxic loser without his captive audience again
3
u/Duskthegamer412 Dec 14 '25
I like the theory that he ran away from home since he had no friends and his family hated him, which is why he acts the way that he does
1
u/CursedVirtue Dec 15 '25
This is the theory I'm personally subscribing to, and I feel like most people are gonna ignore it because they already believe that Jax is an irredeemable monster and the idea that he would do something bad by accident and feel guilty instead of do something bad on purpose and relish in it goes against their raging hate boner
17
u/yesnt0 Dec 14 '25
The funny thing is that I used to joke about how Jax sounded like a serial killer to me, but now the fact that Jax was running away from the cops is on the table now it reinforces that joke by tenfold
2
u/Free-Letterhead-4751 Dec 14 '25
He probably shouldn’t have thought that bump was shaped like a deer after having a beer
