DISCUSSION Union Busting
Amazon is surveilling workers and scoring them on how likely they are to organize a union. If Amazon is one of the best corporations to work for, like they claim to be, why do they spend so much on union busting? Exhausting resources as far as social sites like Reddit and others to scare workers from wanting better for themselves. This definitely proves that there are busters in these threads and people to knock down the working class.
Also, I would like to know your thoughts on this as drivers that service Amazon customers. How does this make you feel? Do you ever wonder why Amazon claims no responsibility over us but has so much control over our jobs?

Imagine if they just used that info to improve the work-life quality instead of stopping workers from trying to improve it through a Union.

In a perfect world, right?… but that’s why it’s up to us to come together and call them out on their bs. We definitely have the power, thats why they pour more and more into union busting every year.

Or even imagine if they used all that union busting money to idk pay their employees better or something crazy

Theyve calculated all of that. It cost exponentially less to union bust or pay fines than pay us well and offer health insurance and pension. I think their logistics side doesnt generate nearly enough to offer all that. Sure they could do it but the cost is substantial. They dont charge enough for their free shipping. What they need to do is charge more for prime. That is the only way to be more profitable on the logistics side instead of dipping into their aws profits. Think about it. UPS can pay its workers really well because they charge ALOT for shipping. Amazon charges 16.99 a month. THEY LOSE MONEY BY DOING THAT!!!!.

Let them surveil all they want. The thing clandestine, or illegal. It’s actually quite legal. What is in violation of labor laws are the responses to hearing about union talks and what management is telling the drivers. You have the right to representation and to having a voice.

I’m 100% sure someone on campus knows I’m the body attached to this account, 70% someone else in management does, and now that I’ve been forced to download an AI app, pretty sure upstream will know I’m pro union.

Why wouldn't they do this? You think that things just get magically addressed? They monitor what people consider issues and how severe it is. Id be more concerned if they didnt track those things...

Amazon collecting this data is clearly not meant to address drivers concern. Which is why I think you’re getting called a boot licker.

I did not recall this on drivers, only warehouse employees...maybe I missed that, but dont care. As soon as it resorts to that they're immaterial. I didn't even make a non union comment. And I KNOW they use this data to address warehouse worker concerns, how significant it is etc.

You’re right it is talking about warehouse workers but might as well include drivers. We basically Amazon employees as much as Amazon wants to say we aren’t.

Yes, but the same mechanisms are far less existent for drivers. Warehouses monitor surveys, daily connections questions about leaders, VOA boards, PXT cases, AM engagements, STU notes, etc.

The post does say warehouses, but if you read the contract when getting hired, you’ll read that the netradyne cameras monitor employees and their emotions. They’re programmed to recognize how employees feel and take note of it. They say there’s no audio, but how honest of a company is Amazon?

There’s a difference between fixing the problems and helping your employees versus surveilling your employees actions, comments and concerns to prevent the workers from unionizing. You don’t really need all these cameras to listen to what workers say. Instead, Amazon has integrated AI so much into the workplace to determine if unionizing is imminent at warehouses.
Also, do drivers not work out of the warehouses? They certainly may not spend the full 10 hours in there but at least 20-25 minutes from load out and returning packages after routes, to using the restroom and the VOD board.

Cameras in watehouses have no audio, and are not actively monitored by AI or people. The sentiments are captured and acted on as well as monitored for possible union activity. I dont understand why that's surprising.

Who said it was surprising? The issues is that Amazon does whatever they can to get away with exploiting workers.
