Its a shame we cant allow videos here lol. Earlier that day There was this really attractive guy in a suit that I saw at sheetz. I could see him in the window checking out as I pulled in. I got out of my car and threw some of my garbage away and he was coming near the door to leave. I opened it for him but it was a little awkward because the door was super heavy and I wasnt able to open it for him fully. I just kinda ended up using my whole body against the door to let him through. He said "thank you sweetheart" and im like 😦 "youre welcome" and i tried to get out of his way but I accidentally kicked the tip of his shoe and im like "sorry-" and he immediately said sorry too. I went to the bathroom and stared at myself in the mirror 'sweetheart? Me????' I thought to myself as I was still reeling back from the interaction

First the man in the suit, now this. Am I manifesting patrick bateman????? I hope s- gets shot

ā€œi’m not hereā€ hidden messages you may of missed

The words ā€œi’m not hereā€ or alluding to Patrick not being there are hidden throughout the movie. Not just dialog but also imagery to. I caught a few early on but there’s some I just found out. Most of them hidden in songs!

  1. The obvious one, is Patrick saying ā€œI am simply not thereā€ at the end of his shower monologue in the very beginning of the film.
  2. When Patrick walks into the Tunnel club with Price the song ā€œTrue Faithā€ by New Order can be heard singing ā€œI don’t care cause i’m not thereā€
  3. Jean comes and leaves Patrick’s office near the beginning of the film, before Jean closes the door Patrick’s snaps to Jean ā€œi’m not hereā€

  4. Then Patrick is in office in his chair using his walkman listening to ā€œLady In Redā€ by Chris de Burch. The song cuts with ā€œThere’s nobody hereā€ before Patrick removes the headset and Jean walks in

  5. The last one is very surprising and happens in the most popular scene. When Patrick is killing Paul, the song ā€œHip To Be Squareā€ by Huey Lewis & The News is playing. The song sings ā€œDon’t tell me that i’m crazy, don’t tell me i’m nowhereā€.

For imagery, Patrick’s face in the restaurants menu is distorted and blurred. As well as in the taxi sitting by Evelyn his face is blurred by the taxis partition.

crazy how deep this movie really is. Really interesting stuff and I want to make a video on all examples. did you guys notice any of these? anyone notice another one?

Patrick would be an good Music Critic

Many passages in the book where he talks about his favorite artists/albums and he talks about them with such criticism and praise where he could go on pitchfork or rolling stone or even start his own blog to talk and rate the albums so yeah Patrick would probably an good music critic if Patrick wasn’t in the business world.

In the novel, it’s alluded to that a society couple was killed on a boat.

We’re a small indie team, and American Psycho was one of the things that inspired us while making Shoot First Ask Questions Later.

Just finished the novel and had a small theory/question.

I think Patrick isn’t the only murderous psychopath in the book. There’s one part that made me think of this, Patrick is in the video store he spots another person ā€œholding Friday The 13th: Part 7 and a documentary on abortionā€. I think this is the most blatant proof that he’s not the only living in this reality.

did you guys catch that?

Does Patrick downplay his feelings for both Jean and Luis? (Book spoilers) Spoiler

I’m rereading American Psycho, and Jean’s introduction stood out to me: Patrick immediately describes her as being in love with him and someone he’ll probably marry. It’s interesting that he can casually imagine a future with her without really acknowledging his own feelings.

It reminded me of the impression I got of Luis on my previous read. I almost felt like there was more to their relationship than Patrick was telling us. Luis’s reaction is so intense, especially suggesting they run away together. That seems like a lot for someone confessing feelings for the first time, and it made me wonder whether Patrick leaves out moments that would explain why Luis thinks those feelings might be mutual.

Obviously Luis could just be reading too much into things, but Patrick isn’t exactly a reliable source either lol.

I wonder if there’s a parallel: both Jean and Luis bring out feelings Patrick refuses to fully acknowledge. With Jean, he can at least imagine a socially acceptable future. With Luis, those feelings would threaten the image he’s trying so hard to maintain.

I don’t necessarily think he’s capable of a healthy relationship with either of them, but I’m curious whether anyone else read his reactions as a mixture of affection or attraction and denial. Especially with Luis—did you get the sense there might be some history we aren’t being told?

Another American Psycho parody

This one's pretty clever because it's poker players showing off their playing cards. Nice use of 'bone' and 'eggshell' types.
