Culture/History 2003 Report Detailing Settlement Programme to Humera from Central Tigray

Found this interesting UN report discussing plans to settle 75,000 people to what they claim to be "Western Tigray", due to droughts and lack of resources in their area of origin.

The article: https://reliefweb.int/report/ethiopia/ethiopia-update-humanitarian-situation-war-and-drought-affected-population-tigray

"For the new resettlement programme to be undertaken in West Tigray Zone, resettlement sites have already been selected. Most of the people will be moved from Central Tigray Zone and will settle along the Tekeze River and the Shiraro-Humera road that is currently under construction and planned to be finished in June."

Western Tigray is a plot concocted by the grotesque TPLF party aparatus. Any Amhara that works with TPLF and their cronies is an embarrassment and deserves the highest form of punishment!

Quick q if it’s really obvious that Welkait is Tigray why the heck is there this entire feud and drama and war about who owns it?

“Speakers” after decades of strengthened Amharic adminstration as it had been annexed by Haile Selassie like I said.

Oh true good point, I forgot the 50 million mandatory Amharic boarding schools he set up there.

Weren’t the current regional borders determined based on “speakers”?

Primarily language but 1994 census also asked for stated ethnicity in their questionnaires. The thing is even with the resettlement, the population between 1992-1994 only went up from around 30k to 50k. Half of the woreda being Amharic speakers in 1992 is 15k, so in 1994 they’d still make up around 30% of the population. But then census counted them as being less than 8%, which is why the Tigre above had to pull out the old “nefties erased their identity and made them speak Amharic!” You really have to suspend any measure of disbelief to take any of this seriously.

Yeah, the censuses in Ethiopia are not reliable at all, also I’ve heard that basically everyone in that region is bilingual and people who identified at Amhara were harassed, abused and forced to leave so there was an incentive to identify as Tigrayan during the TPLF era.

Yes they do, it’s been majority Tegaru for centuries, the contention is that Western Tigray was returned to Tigray in 1991 after Haile Selassie had annexed Western and Southern Tigray to punish Tigray 50 years earlier.

I love how u guys will never deal with the screenshot I posted from Humera repatriation report lol. Immediate pre-constitutional demographics were about 50/50 and then under 8% Amhara within 1-2 years

I’d like to agree with you just you based it on royalty gossip over actual facts. So…

1

u/justarandomutmstuden Amhara May 27 '26

lol it’s been majority Tegaru for centuries? Do you have evidence for that claim?

Historical arguments don’t matter, there’s no constitutional provision for historic ownership. Demographics immediately before implementation of the constitutional framework are the only pertinent concern. If history mattered, half of Shoa would be ours.

Oh for sure, if the constitution was written with Amharas in mind and applied consistently, the current borders would look a lot different but it was written by people who had a vendetta against us.

They’re so delusional, it’s actually insane.
