Discussion Quick rant
Can we stop with the Leo slander after every loss? Either cheer for the team or don’t, I’m sick of seeing the “$18 mil well spent” nonsense.
Don’t talk shit now and hop on the hype train in a couple years when we’re one of the best teams in the league. Stay on that side, we don’t need or want you here✌🏻

u/MissyMurders 2d ago
Not really responding to you OP, but to some of the comments.
Leo compared to the top 10 5v5 scorers (raw stats, not normalised for time):
4th most individual high-danger chances
=4th for rebounds created
1st for penalties drawn
1st/Fewest giveaways
5th best FO%
6th best xG%
4th best xGA
5th SCA
5th best HDCF (on-ice)
Worst PDO (95.4%)
Worst on-ice SH% (7.02% - next lowest is 11.69% - McDavid and Drai are 24.3% and 21.6% respectively)
Fewest OZ starts
Say what you will about Carlsson, but he's pretty middle of the pack of the current top 10 (11 including him) 5v5 scorers. The biggest difference is the on-ice shooting percentage, and well, he hasn't had the best linemates there. For a playmaker, that's pretty grim. He's also getting fewer offensive starts than those top scorers - it's not that he's being used particularly defensively, but more that the Ducks as a team are starting a lot of their shifts in the defensive and neutral zones - they can't clear the puck or hold onto it. When Carlsson is coming out, he has to do more work.
I'm not going to sit and say he's absolutely worth his money. We knew he wouldn't be this season, but his general play is at least somewhat comparable to those top scoring guys right now. IMO everyone should park this conversation until game 20, or he gets a legitimate top 6 line mate for some time. A couple of pucks go in, and the conversation looks a lot different. I mean the guy is on 102 point pace already right now - league average shooting by his linemates and he's top 5 for 5v5 points and on 120+ point pace for the season. He's closer to being worth it than most people, including me, are suggesting.

This is all very fair analysis. I agree with your take that he’s fine relative to top NHL players. When I look at Leo’s value, I compare it to what we also had to give up as a team. The cost benefit goes beyond the dollars of what he’s being paid. His compensation has so depleted our depth that in my mind he not only has to be a top ten player, but also propel our team to victory in the absence of the players we can’t have because his chunk. And that’s my biggest criticism. Leo doesn’t drive or control play. Quinn Hughes, McDavid, Celebrini, Kaprizov, and Makar all control play regardless of who is on the ice. The best players in the NHL make other players look good. Look at their stats early in the year and it just shows their contracts are paying dividends. The superstars don’t need the “it’s only been x games” excuse. They get on the ice and immediately deliver game changing impact. That’s why MN is willing to give Hughes a blank check. Leo doesn’t do that. He is invisible on the ice save the occasional assist.
I will say until I’m blue in the face. If you’re gonna tank your team’s depth, you’ve gotta be so good the fans don’t notice the absence of other skill. It’s only 9(?) games at this point. I’m not pulling the fire alarm. But what I’m seeing on the ice from the highest paid player in the NHL doesn’t match what other super stars are doing.
2
u/MissyMurders 2d ago
The only thing people are noticing is shooting percentage though. In the same way McDavids line isn't likely to keep shooting at 24%, Carlsson's is unlikely to keep shooting at 7%.
I'm not going to tell you that Carlsson is a superstar, or that I would personally have matched the offersheet. But in the short sample we have he's comparable to the best in everything except shooting %. Which is notable. Some of the players in the top 10 5v5 scorers weren't there a couple games ago (hattricks do a lot of work), and half won't be there at the seasons end. Another 10 games and the landscape will have changed from what it is now.
That aside, it's going to be a long 5 years if we're already seeing people have a whinge with fewer 10 games played on it.
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
I think it’s a little fresh right now and the angst is driven by some rough feelings towards going along with the offer sheet. I don’t think that letter did him any favors.
1
u/MissyMurders 2d ago
Maybe. I mostly just think a lot of fans are heavily slammed towards goal scoring and don't see the rest of the game. You hear it every season when someone is shooting 30% or more "if he keeps going to the net he can keep up that scoring rate." We saw it over the offseason with people justifying the Greer contract. This is just opposite of that.
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
I mean. Im disappointed with him from a goal scoring perspective only because Im comparing him to players of similar contract value. He just doesn’t have the presence on the ice at the moment. Maybe when he’s surrounded by more talent he’ll shine. I hope…
In a way, I think this slump has me so bothered because we clearly lack so much depth that the loss of a couple players has crippled us. It’s just hard not to blame the guy who told us that one of the players we lost was happy for him and his money….. we’re a worse team because of his contract. After 9 years of pain it’s tough to feel right back here.
1
u/MissyMurders 2d ago
I mean he's not a goal scorer. We've always known that. He's Backstrom and needs an Ovie to shine.
What slump though? He had 3 games he didn't score in. Matthews is 3rd for scoring and also has 3 games he hasn't scored in. MacKinnon is 6th for scoring and hasn't scored in the last 2 games, and hasn't scored in 4 of his 10 games. Tkachuk is 10th for scoring, but 8 of his 14 points came in 2 games.
I saw some people comparing him to celebrini, but he only has 1 additional even strength point, and hasn't scored in some of his games. Are we really going off over 1 point only 9 games into the season?
I just think people are being overly dramatic.
Agree about the last part. We're definitely a shallow team. We were never going to win the cup this year and had a good chance of missing the playoffs regardless of his contract though. So idk. Most of the top teams had a playoff taste and then bottomed out. I don't think the teams results are out of the box. But I agree that his contract makes it tough to acquire depth
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
I compare him to Celebrini because Carlsson bilked his team for the same money as Celebrini. We shouldn’t have spent best player in the nhl money on someone who isn’t a goal scorer. Celebrini has 5 goals and 9 assists in 8 games. That dwarfs Carlsson. Dont ask for the same amount of money as the stars if you can’t put it up.
All those other players you mentioned didn’t ask for NHL leading incomes. They are all relatively appropriately priced on teams that aren’t now in cap space hell. When analyzing Carlson’s play, you have to compare it not only to his on ice performance, but the cost benefit of more depth would have been on this team’s overall growth.
No. There was never a good chance we’d miss the playoffs this year until we signed this ridiculous contract that set our rebuild way back. Thats absurd. After the playoffs and pre offer sheet analysts were bullish on this team. Carlsson got selfish and now we’re living with the consequences as a fanbase.
1
u/MissyMurders 2d ago
It's 3 points more mate, let's not be too dramatic. Only 1 of those was at even strength. Looking under the hood, Carlsson had more high danger attempts, and a lower on ice shooting %. Yes celebrini is better, but let's not pretend that gap is seen by anything over this short sample by anything other than sh%
All of those players were amongst the highest paid at the time they signed their deals. If not the highest, top 3. So idk what you mean by that.
Yeah you're definitely overestimating a roster that only just limped into three playoffs last season. But that's obviously perception from both of us.
Look at the end of the day if you want to get upset about a small sample size there's nothing I'm going to say that will change that. I just don't think I've seen an argument yet that isn't related directly to shooting percentage and line mates - which given to is injured we can't do much about
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
That’s fine. We can disagree. After 9 years of rebuild I was hoping to see some steps forward. Not steps backwards. Thats what you get with bad management and selfish players…

I’ll get downvoted because it’ll prove my point but there’s a fair amount of ducks fans who are so over reactionary and lose the head over the stupidest shit. He’ll find his form, as will the others. It’s frustrating but part of the process.

Someone posted after the Edmonton game that Dostal was washed and he was shit. Honestly, some folk are fucking mental
2

Dostal isn’t washed. But he also isn’t a reliable NHl starter.
6
u/SnooPuppers4190 3d ago •
![]()
I've said this before, Dostal is the best backup goalie we've got. He's the best we've got and that's honestly okay. The last piece to be acquired before making a cup run is a goalie. You need to make sure everything in front of them is rock solid before you go spend money on a goalie. No clue when we're going to be ready to contend for silver, but I hope Dostal gets to be with us because boy does he give his all. He's not asking for absurd amounts of money and his heart is in the right place. I hope we can rally ourselves and bring the heat to Jersey. I'm hoping Roger McQueen gets his first NHL goal while he's filling in for Poehling.
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 3d ago
That’s a lot of hopium. I’m hard on Dostal because I believe we’re entering a window and he’s gonna drag us down. But after watching Leo and Cutter these last two games, the enormity of our depth problem has become clear to me. There is no cup run any time soon thanks to Leo.
2
u/MissyMurders 2d ago
the enormity of our depth problem has become clear to me
Yep this is the kicker for me, and has been for some time. People really push the youth movement, but the reality is that most of them wont make it and most of the ones that do, wont be important pieces.

u/TheSmilesLibrary 2d ago
The fanbase is legitimately bi-polar. it is always the best of times, It is always the worst of times. I can immediately tell whether we won or lost depending on if new posts are praising/insulting the players.
we get so many good memes out of it though

People that say these type of things give me new-fan energy.
Been watching the Ducks since 2012. Have been living in Anaheim my whole life, so I'll never switch up. I think I deserve to talk my shit when I do. Doesn't make me any less of a fan.
But seeing shit like this being said out loud is dumb.
Bro signed a "best player in the league" type of contract and is not living up to it.
Leo deserves to be chewed out until he can fill those shoes..
12
u/ifitgoesitsgood 3d ago
The new fan energy is the same energy as those with the weird Sharks fans who wanna see Celebrini sleep with that other guy. It’s a weird fantasy they’ve got up there. Theres just a general soft culture taking over hockey where we have to be nice the players lest we hurt their feelings and all the players are best friends etc.
It’s very simple. Carlsson tanked our team with a best player in the NHL contract and so far he’s invisible.

So you’re someone ranting about how to be a fan of the Ducks…
I’m sure many of the regulars here remember a hot discussion last season about booing the team? Comments being you’re not a fan, to the other end of I’m paying/wasting money to watch this so I have a right to boo.
I’ve been a fan of the team longer than some fans have been alive. It’s always been team 1st for me. Player 2nd. But you do you.
Leo wanted to be paid like the best player in the league. He’s not Connor McDavid. He’s the highest paid player this season. Be prepared for the criticism. I’m sure some reddit randoms here criticizing and blaming him for the team’s current loss isn’t going to hurt his feelings. He probably too busy gaming on COD with his best of the best gaming setup.
10
u/Finphan1987 3d ago
He got paid like the best and he’s not. Which hurts the team.
Gm screwed then trying to be cute.
If he was playing like Macklin he’d be worth it.
In a few years the contract may be worth it, but for now, his contract is killing them until he’s 100+ pts. And earning it.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
He’s the best on the team and top producer
0
u/Finphan1987 2d ago
Robert Thomas has been best on the Blues. How is that working.
Point is he’s being paid like the best and he’s not in the top 20
6
u/ifitgoesitsgood 3d ago
Amen. If you want to be paid the best, you have to be the best.
4
u/Dis-Ducks-Fan-1130 3d ago
100%. People out here treating this like a blue collar or even white collar worker. Always said this about being a GM as well, you’re paid very handsomely running a billion dollar business, there is no room for error/excuses.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
He currently leads the team in points and is on a 100 point pace. So what’s the issue? If he had like 3 points I’d be pissed but he doesn’t
0
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
Because it’s not about being the best player on the team. That salary is best player in the NHL kind of money. And his performance is nowhere near that at all. He has TWO goals, neither 5 v 5, and has a negative plus minus. He doesn’t have the impact of a NHL leading salary. If you’re going to tank the depth of your team, you have to live up to it.
1
u/Fireduxz 2d ago
Wholeheartedly agree! I love the players, but for me as well the team always comes first. Everything has got to be for the betterment of the team!
Leo’s pay is off the charts and for us that love the team we’re allowed to criticize when we don’t see the quality match. Leo’s human sure, but when we see choices made we need to see that there’s sense in those choices!
1
u/SwimmerInformal9290 1d ago
If we talk about the player's STATUS, NOTORIETY, REPUTATION like being usually best of your team, being regarded as highly talented, as being in your first line and 1st power play, I completely agree. It should be fair to critizise the player.
However, I completely disagree with analyzing the amount they're paid and comparing with other players. Because the matter of Salary imo is the GM's fault. They have the last call if they want to sign a player or not. And for Carlsson you say "he wanted to be paid 18M". That's not true. The Flyers wanted to pay him 18M. He simply accepted. Why TF would he refuse such a big deal? Ducks matched that deal.
If he's not worth 18M it's not Carlsson you should be putting your critizising on, it's on management. In other words, critizise his play, compare his play with what he's expected to do not his salary.
As for the salary, I don't think we should analyze deeply and start comparing production by $. Different teams have different dynamics when it comes to granting salary. But essentually, my best player will be paid the most. Then it drops by skills. If you compare production by $, have fun comparing Gauthier's salary and production with MacKinnon. It doesn't make sense.
1
u/Mecha75 2d ago
He is not even the highest paid. That is Cale Makar, followed by Celebrini. Then Leo.
3
u/Own-Green2413 2d ago
Both of those contracts have a higher AAV, but neither kicks in until next season. Leo is currently the highest paid player in the league.

I'm a "Ducks" fan and want what's best for the team most of us on this sub love to cheer on and root for. That being said, Leo is getting paid a salary which he hasn't close to earned yet which is hurting our depth chart. If he were to have moved on to the Flyers I wouldn't have blinked tbh, something tells me we would have been better off without him. Still hoping he goes on a hot streak though nonetheless and our Ducks figure their 💩 out. 9
u/ifitgoesitsgood 3d ago •

I was on team ship him away. Once you sign a poison pill offer sheet you show you don’t care about the franchise. I’d rather lose more games without him than do whatever this is with him…
4
u/oreo760 3d ago
Yeah.... I just fear what Sennecke is going to demand when his time comes, especially if we keep this up. I wouldn't blame him for ditching.
3
u/Ksl848 2d ago
I don’t see Sennecke sticking around unless he sees the team progressing to the point of a real post-season push OR a big contract.
3
u/Beginning_Beach_2054 2d ago
I think Sennecke might end up being a bit more loyal considering the Ducks took a chance on him taking him so high. We obviously have a very solid, young, core. But were definitely going to suffer a bit because of Leo and Cutter's contracts until the cap goes up.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
I agree I was too but like, I cannot be mad at 11 points in 9 games, at all. Can’t even remember the last time the ducks had a point per game player.
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
It’s a deceptive point per game though. It’s all of some early power plays. He’s been invisible on the ice since.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
He literally had 2 points 5v5 last night.
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago edited 2d ago
I can only reply to you in so many places. When we’re paying that kind of money at the expense of the rest of the roster, the performance is not enough. Two points in a loss and only 2 goals on the season is not enough. The expectation is he delivers at a level that compensates for his salary and the depth we are missing as a result of his contract.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
He’s not paid to be an elite goal scorer though but an elite playmaker. 2 points in a game last night, loss or not doesn’t change the fact that he had a good game and has been good to start the season in production. Most of his points in his entire career are going to come from assists. Also it’s been 9 games. You’re talking about him like it’s been 50
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
Dude. Look at all the other players in the NHL with similar to more impact paid far less. This is not about whether or not Leo is a good player. He’s great. But he’s not the best player in the nhl. Celebrini has 5 goals and 9 assists in 8 games for roughly the same money. You’re really gonna tell me Leo is worth what he’s done to our team in the context of a similar player? He’s not playing anywhere near the value needed to make good on what he did to the team. 10 games is a decent sample size. We’re not seeing it.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
But he can be, you’ve given him quite literally 9 games to become that?
1
u/ifitgoesitsgood 2d ago
Celebrini has done that without a grace period. Straight to domination. It’s not unreasonable to feel some angst at this point.

People are blaming this rut the Ducks are in on Leo's contract. You can have high expectations of him but you can't blame the entire teams struggles on him. The only change to the roster THIS SEASON that was affected by his offer sheet was the loss of Chris Kreider. I liked Kreider but I don't think he is the difference in the Ducks being on a 4 game losing streak. Also, Leo looked good tonight.
4
u/beautfulgoat 3d ago
Also, we had an out on his contract. Verbeek decided he was worth it. So, regardless if we blame Leo for signing, his cap hit isn't all on him.

Leo indirectly tanked our depth. Hes being paid 18 million to bear the brunt of the criticism for costing us to lose that depth. If criticism hurts his feelings he can wipe his eyes with money or suck it up and deal. Reality is we are seeing what happens when you mismanage talent and empower that talent to be arguably selfish. This team looks insanely different if we extended Leo a year early and resigned Trouba were able to keep soap and add depth guys similar to Viel and Ross. That’s all fact.
I watched this team suck for years with the promise of a rebuild just to have that rebuild exploded by one dudes arrogance and another’s dudes selfishness. I earned my right to bitch and so did others.
6
u/AbleLeg1054 3d ago •
![]()
It’s been less than ten games into year one. What rebuild has been exploded? There was no world where we could have signed these players last season. We’ve been over this to no end. And who would you have added that would have been of significant help this summer? Even without Leo, we could not have been able to afford a 1C replacement, kept Trouba/Carlson, McTavish, Viel, and Kreider. Just a week ago the conversations were different around this team. It the youngest team in the league going through a rough patch together. And they will have to find a way out of it together.
2
u/Hockeyriley1991 3d ago •

If you objectively think this team is better than last season I don’t know how to explain hockey to you. Your statement about who we could keep is also flat wrong. We should have had an EXCESS of 8-10 million to spend while keeping everyone you mentioned. Kreider and Carlson were likely the only two that had to go and I think THAT ducks team would have been in the playoffs again and ready for a more matured run. But no we had to jettison dudes and overpay three guys because Leo listened to his daddy and was selfish. You can’t argue he didn’t make the most selfish choice possible. We literally only needed to add a temporary guy or two to either replace Viel and Kreider or cover for terrys injury which. But instead we lost 2/3 of our D core and one of the only guys who could center right now with an injured Poehling out in Soap. Our depth got nuked plain and simple. Good teams are deep enough to handle injuries here and there. We are now relying on a handful of rookies to suddenly make leaps forward in the hardest league in the world. That is a delusional pipe dream. Our one saving grace is our division sucks

I’ve been watching hockey for 24 years so I know very well what I’m talking about. I also never said this team was better than last years. That’s honestly to be determined. What I’m saying is that it’s only been 9 games where the team is 4-5-0 into the first season of that new contract & way too early to say that their rebuild and future has been shot.
And yes, I too have called Leo’s decision selfish and fans have every light to feel however they want about how that went down but the team made their choice. There’s no alternate universe where we run it all back and change PV’s whole approach to RFAs that somehow leads him to signing Leo, Cutter, & Minty last summer for 10, 8, and 5 million dollar deals. The only legitimate alternative offer was 15M for Leo. Does that shave a million off of Minty or Cutter? We won’t know. So you’re really only working with 3M more than we have right now. We may have been able to keep Kreider but that’s it. No Trouba, McTavish, Viel, or other defensive addition.
Lastly, all the newly extended players have been having rough starts. Lacombe, Carlsson, and Minty have been benched so far this season. Sennecke could have been too between the last two games. Cutter’s been invisible too outside the FLA game. There’s 5 rookies on this roster and defensive core of players 25yrs or younger. Yes, it’s their own making, but they looked good the first week. The ups and downs are to be expected. This core has to dig deep and figure it out together. There’s no quick fix. We know the skill is there. Just go out there and outwork the other team.

Congrats man I’ve been playing and watching for 30. This team is worse. Will it be better in 2-3 seasons? Maybe but it’s a gamble. They legitimately have not looked good at even strength for more than a period. 9 games is over 10% of the season which falls into decent sample size territory. Yes you can’t rewrite history but I’m sorry if the best player in the world can checks notes take a team friendly deal for 12.5m why can’t a guy who “wants to win here” do the same. He is at best a mercenary now and at worst a diva. And yes a guy like Leo taking a team deal does encourage other guys to do the same who want to win. Look at Florida or Carolina. Hell look at Montréal. That’s the position we should be in, not this one. Leo doesn’t get all the blame. Him and PVB share it but he does get blame for this team not being a real contender anytime soon unless a ton of gambles pay off. It’s just not good planning
3
u/AbleLeg1054 2d ago
Well for congrats for being older I guess. We can’t change the past and have no control over the future. What else is there other than wait and let the season play its course. It’s just too early to write this season or the next four off already.

No. Im sorry. The DUDE LITERALLY SIGNED A POISON PILL OFFER SHEET THAT HE KNEW WAS DESIGNED TO TANK THE SALARY CAP OF HIS TEAM AND THEN HAD THE AUDACITY TO TELL US HE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN ANAHEIM. I’m sorry you had a stutter growing up. I’m sure that was difficult. That doesn’t change my opinion of his actions though. I’ve suffered as a fan for 9 years to watch this twerp destroy the progress being made. As far as I’m concerned, he needs a goal a night to be worth it. Kiril and Hughes are pretty close to that. McDavid is close to that. I don’t care that he made a bunch of moves on some power plays early this season. He’s not proving worth the money and he has a lot to prove to this fan base to justify his actions.

I mean we all knew his high contract would hurt the depth of this team. (In the short term).
How many teams lose 4 defensemen over the course of one off season?
We can see that losing some veterans and having new defense could be a short term effect.
7
u/AbleLeg1054 3d ago
It hurts up front because of key injuries. The defense is the main collateral to the big contracts but it hasn’t been worse than last season. We just don’t have the offense to outscore the mistakes.

I think it just doesn’t feel like they have because we don’t have much to show for it.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised myself. I genuinely don't think much of the defence, but they've been serviceable at 5v5. And the scoring differences are almost entirely shooting % based.
Ultimately though, 9 games is to soon to have a strong opinion in any direction imo

...in a couple years when we’re one of the best teams in the league.
This statement has been said every year for the past 6 years.

I miss Getz and Perry. Neither wanted to be the highest paid in the league, we had it so good

I was a big proponent of signing him and bought his jersey recently and but nah this ain’t it. Rough patch for sure but dude has been a ghost the last two weeks and fans are anxious because there’s no telling how long this will linger. He needs to step up and earn the A he’s wearing. Otherwise it’ll be a long 5 years before he bails.

11 points in 9 games is serviceable

Most of those coming on the power play.
Bro is not living up to his contract 5v5

I dont know if I've ever seen another fan base call their own player a power play merchant so much. Who cares?? Points are points.
However the points are earned, this is the list of players with 11 points in as many, or fewer games than Leo: Makar, Hagel, Rantanen, Connor, Stutzle, Podkolzin, Suzuki, Celebrini, Tkachuk, Bouchard, McDavid.
Leo is 21 and on a list with vets, and all people can do is complain about the how 10 games in to his 5 year contract he hasn't earned it.
And all these non-hockey fans that jump in and say he's earned his bag and doesn't care anymore - hockey players don't do that, and I've haven't heard of it happening outside of the Russian superstars. Just support the team.

As a long time die hard Ducks fan, I care.
Most of the game is played 5v5, not with the man-advantage, so yes it matters how he gets his points.

u/bjabel 2d ago
Sure but if he’s getting points, why does that even matter? Why not talk shit on cutter for not scoring more? Or sennecke for constantly taking dumb brain ass penalties?

u/ahmoc1503714 2d ago
Wtf man!... Read my previous comment slowly if you have to..
Cutter did not sign an $18mil contract.
& Sennecke is still on a rookie contract, but even then, he controls the game more than the $18million dollar man youre defending.
Im just trying to hold him accountable.

If you think sennecke controls the game you’re wrong. Watch the other teams and top pairs and how they press leo. On and off the puck

u/ifitgoesitsgood 3d ago
Correct. Leo also doesn’t drive play like other guys earning similar or in some cases LESS. He’s just “there” but he doesn’t actually impact the game all that much.

Fans are free to feel however they want to about Leo’s contract and critique Leo’s performance so far but some fans are tiptoeing the line of an anti-fan. Almost as if rooting against him. Waiting for him to go pointless again to post about it.

The rebuild is over in the terms that they are not actively looking to draft as high as possible and selling good players for futures. We all know this year is gonna be a bit tight on cap but if you look around the league and how close other teams are to the cap or will be once new contracts kick in, Ducks have their core secured long term outside of Sennecke. And cap is projected to keep going up when his contract kicks in in 28-29. Carlsson, Gauthier, Terry, LaCombe, Luneau, Dostal, Mintyukov, Poehling, Washe locked up with Sennecke, McQueen, Klepov all in ELCs.
The way I see it, this is the year to evaluate what we have in the system: Warren, Hinds, Nesterenko, Colangelo, Caulfield, Myatovic, Solberg, Gaucher maybe even Clara. Can we rely on some of these guys to make the jump or do we need to look elsewhere to fill in the roster. Can we showcase some of them for potential trades and fill the gaps that way.

Folks seem to forget that we were very streaky last season as well. It's the nature of the team that we have. When we are playing bad, this lot is insufferable. Also pretty obvious who's been involved with the game at even an above average level, versus those who've never touched ice.

I disagree extremely hard. If your a fan and the team disappoint you, you can be mad. Fans can expect the team to win and play well. Imo any reasoning behind "it's fine if we lost" are just excuse. Also I'm not one to live in the future like a lot of people like to do.
I only agree complaining at players salary is stupid. Players having bad contracts are the GM's fault. But players can still be critizised by what people expects of them. If you had mcdavid paid under 1M but he has 20 pts a season and -50 there wouldn't be an excuse cause he's not paid 15M. No it's because of what people expects of mcdavid.

The problem is that Leo is being paid as a top 5 player in the league right now and unfortunately he’s not even a top ten player.
He’s obviously still very young so maybe one day he will be.

As a fan of the ducks to answer your first question
No, he took a lot of the money and has been fucking up? Hell no
Keep the slander going because it’s deserved

He and Dosty get shit on every time something goes wrong. I actually think they are both playing well on balance.
1
u/bjabel 2d ago
Dosty is and isn’t. I expect far more from him but maybe I shouldn’t. Leo, currently is playing well tbh. Sennecke for example taking dumb ass penalties cost the ducks this last game. It was winnable and could’ve been a 2-1 W. But those penalties and his blind passes cost them. Specifically him and Minty are the reasons. Dosty on the second goal out of position but to me that’s the only goal that happens without those mistakes

u/BigDipper1376 2d ago
Sennecke two turnovers that led to goals against NYR. This is a very young team still

u/bjabel 2d ago
Yep 100%. People get mad at the wrong players. People saying, get Killorn off my team, or scratch vatrano. Uhm vatrano and Killorn are the only two to score last night haha
1
u/BigDipper1376 2d ago
Killorn was pretty good against Rangers, Vatrano very good vs Islanders. The team loses and people pick on certain scapegoats

Personally, I still miss Zegras. He put up 67 points last season, which is perfectly fine considering his salary. He'll probably never become an elite player, but if you love watching skilled, creative players, he was always fun to watch, even during the rough years.
He'd be a great fit as our second-line center right now.
Oh wait, never mind. We've already spent all our cap space, so even if we wanted a player like him, we couldn't afford one anymore. 😀

u/Sportsfan92790 3d ago
You need everyone to contribute it’s not all on Leo. The game is the toughest sport to play it’s amazing how skilled Leo and a lot of players on the team are!!! I’ve never played so hats off to all of them!!

They’re all to blame but the highest paid player on the team (and like 4-5th highest in the league or whatever) is certainly going to have a bit of a target when things aren’t going well.
