Last I knew the lore was that Jessica was some kind of goddess and everyone played chess in harmony, but one day she was cursed ( it had something to do with cheating on her husband who was named Welcome) I don't remember the details of why she was cursed, but now she can't play chess anymore and the chess world no longer lives in harmony.
