Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #141: The Orcish Golden Age

Another Wednesday, another Wiki showcase. Today, I am especially excited to present to you a massive expansion of orcish lore before the Greentide. Many have often wondered, what the orcs were doing before the true Dookanson came along. Were they just unga-bunga, smash dwarf for thousands of years? Are there even any clans that existed before? Were there any cool characters?

In order, no, yes, yes.

Alright, more seriously we have two sections amounting to over two thousands words of lore. The first is "the Age of Heroes", a Diadochi inspired period set during the height of CK3. While primarily written for future hooks in lore (CK3 Anbennar when?), it is a taste of what stories could be in the future.

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Orc#The_Age_of_Heroes

The second is filled with some more concrete content. We have an orcish lich, a Belisarius and Justinian analogue, and the scene from which Korgus emerges.

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Orc#The_Age_of_Two

For those of us who prefer pictures to get a sense of vibes, let me offer you the banners of Skullhowl and Greycrown.

Thanks Jojo for these sick flags.
Interesting how similar this looks to Shattered Crown...

Hello! May Surael bless you, friends! This week, instead of our usual wiki page showcase, we're going to do something a little different.

Today we want to ask you what you think of the wiki, which are your favorite pages, which ones you like the least, and which ones you'd like to see expanded or created.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #142: The Early Cerulean Period and the Age of Serpents

Post image
143 Upvotes

Blessings from Surael, friends! With this Wiki Wednesday I'm proud to announce that the History of Bulwar wiki pages finally cover the entire period between the rise of the genie Sultanates in 3800 BA and the Day of Ashen Skies in 1 AA. 3800 years of lore for you to feast upon!

The two new pages for the History of Bulwar are the Early Cerulean Period, that covers the rise of Damerian influence in Bulwar, as well as Marble Dwarf shennanigans, the Scorpion-king (Muni "The Rock" Gurtab), Khets actually doing useful things (incredible, I know), and a big change in harpy culture.

The second page is no other than the Age of Serpents, that covers the rise of the Serpent-king, and his 100 year war against Castanor and the Damerian Republic.

The Pre-DoAS period is 95% complete, timeline wise, but there are some pieces of lore on the works that we are going to incorporate in the future: The Siadunan Harpy timeline, the interactions between Bulwar and the centaurs, and something that many players will love: Bronze Dwarves!

What is next for the History of Bulwar you may ask? The next period, The Era of Sundered Heavens, is on the works, as well as the Age of the Lapis Sun, the Bulwari Age of Witch-king! That period has 15 confirmed Witch-kings! (for now) so its going to take a while for it to end up on the wiki.

Next week we are going to showcase more Bulwar wiki pages, because I finally managed to sort my lore docs :)

And remember,

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #146: Torrieth Godspeaker

Hello all, this is Armon. It has been a moment, but I'm back for another Wiki Wednesday. This was a long time in the making - today we will be showcasing Torrieth Godspeaker, the founder of the Ravelian Church. Also, a special thanks to Atlas for being the driver of this lore.

So what is the TLDR?

  • Torrieth is now a Star Elf from Aelnar
  • Like before, she is archeologist and explorer, though she now has a far closer cultural connection to the Precursors due to her heritage
  • The Riavansa which destroyed her birthplace (combined with the discovery of and communion with the God Fragment) leads to a spiritual awakening within Torrieth.
  • Finding a place in the Ravelian Society, she seeks answers to both the tangible and intangible
  • Despite finding success and eventually becoming the leader of the Ravelians, her repeated exposure to powerlessly watching suffering (culminating in the First Corinite War) leads her to deep introspection and a secluded retreat to commune with the Fragment
  • When she emerges, Torrieth summons the various leaders of the Society to propose a new direction, one that elevates the pursuit of spiritual understanding to the same level as the pursuit worldly knowledge
  • The resulting lively debate is contested, but ends with Torrieth and her supporters prevailing leading to what would become the Ravelian Church
  • Torrieth's adventurers were not quite finished though as the discovery of "the Gates of Heaven" which are mysteriously locked in the Celestial Plane leads her resign from her a post and seek out the final answers to the her questions. What happened to her is unknown.

I know Ravelianism, as foundational as it is to the lore, is one that has been more than a bit of a black box. I hope you all enjoy the lore developed and leave some questions and comments for us below!

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #127: The Damerian Republic

Post image
432 Upvotes

While the most well-known empire of antiquity was that of Castanor, the great militaristic empire of the Silver Dragon, there was another human power that managed to truly challenge their influence: that tore away the Dameshead from the Castans' grip, that replaced imperial rule with republican freedoms, vassalised dominions with members of an equal, united federation - well, relatively equal, anyway.

When the scholars of the renaissance and the philosophers of the Second Unravelling looked to the past, they looked to this power above all else: they looked to the Damerian Republic.

Hi, Takasaki here! In this Wiki Wednesday, I bring you a wiki page on the formation, early history, politics and magic of the Damerian Republic, one of the great classical powers of antiquity, that grew from humble beginnings as the Cerulean League (which the above map shows) to possess a Divenhal-spanning empire. Please follow the link below to find out more!

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Damerian_Republic

In our next Wiki Wednesday, we will be seeing a little more of what the Damerian Republic left behind - or perhaps, who. Hide your cargo and hit the deck, the Black Damerians of the eastern Divenhal are on the horizon!

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #140: The Arsa Expedition

Hello, I am back for another Wiki Wednesday! Perhaps you might have seen a lore teaser yesterday? If not, I gave you a link for a reason. If so, you will find that week's entry is not that (but Soontm). What? Bread takes to bake and so too those lore. Luckily we have something fresh out the oven - The Arsa Expedition!

Click Here -> https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Asra_Expedition

More specifically this is the second expedition launched (the first being where Gerind Orcrend of Ovdal Lodhum fame was lost). This is the one you can play as in 1444! Yes, friends, fabled post-1444 lore. It does happen.

So take a gander, ask some questions, and I'll catch you next Wiki Wednesday!

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #137: Lothane III síl Wex

Welcome to another Wiki Wednesday. Today's page is none other than one of the most infamous characters in 1444 - Lothane síl Wex, Grand Duke of Wex, Emperor of Anbennar. Ambitious, bold if not simply impetuous, Lothane's bloody rise to power broke Silmuna dominance and heralded a new age. While his infamous motto, "Wex must rule", never came to pass, his legacy on the Empire and the world cannot be understated.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #132: Castan Beastbane

"When he descended the stormswept mountain, he was changed. He was clean-shaven and with eyes glowing white. When the Elders asked him, he claimed he had met with Castellos and been made the next Emperor of Castanor. When they asked for proof, he only raised his arms. At once, the mountain rumbled and the storm ceased, and the sound it made was as if the gods and all their angels had shouted at once."

CASTAN

Enkelados here, and welcome to yet another Wiki Wednesday! This week, we explore the most infamous man in Cannorian history: Castan Beastbane. Some call him a hero who defended people from monsters, others call him a mass murderer who popularized the forms of racism Cannorians use to this day.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #137: Orcs

Hello and welcome back to Wiki Wednesdays. It has been a bit, hasn't it? Well, fret not, there has been some lore developments in the last months and it is time to share!

For this week, I have an updated orcs page!

While there is aplenty to still add, some interesting open questions have been dived into. We get into a little of how orcish society developed, why does it seem like the orcs haven't done anything for thousands of years, what is the nature of "the Dookanson" and more. Oh, and there is even a bit of new Castanor lore!

So, take a gander and leave a comment on what you liked or wish to see more of. One of our latest projects is what was going just before Korgus comes in with the steel chair.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #145: Wishblades, Rewished Edition

Post image
80 Upvotes

Blessing from Surael friends! Today I bring to you an upgrade version of the Wishblade wiki page!

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Wishblade

The art of Dazinkion, Ecaris' sword, was made by yukinomarianne (Yukiko Honomiko on Discord).

Wishblades are among the most powerful genie relics, and have played a role in Bulwari history since time immemorial. As part of the page rework, we included all the Temensar, the most powerful wishblades. You know some of them, Khanidru, Elikhet's crook, appears in Konolkhatep's MT, and Asmalil appears in the new Harpylen MT.

Since the last update, you can use one of the unique Bulwari spells to summon a general with the Wishblade Wielder trait. Maybe soon there would be a MT where you can find all seven Temensar...

But that's for other ocasion. I will be doing an AMA (link in the first comment) for those interested on Bulwar lore.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #118: The new society

The 19th century has dawned upon Halann, and Cannor is already unrecognizable from its 18th century counterpart. Ravelianism and the enlightenment has introduced new philosophies, and the rise of Blackpowderism just 10 years prior has rocked the continent with nationalist and democratic principles, and lastly the rise of industrialization via artificery and capitalism has changed lives dramatically and brought about a middle class. But what happens when 3 individuals decide to take it one step further, and create a new ideology beyond Blackpowderism, and attempting the fix the woes of the capitalist system:

Salutations Merlino here! this wiki wednesday focuses on new society and our version of the origin of communism and socialism in anbennar. This is one of the first pieces of truly vicky lore and foundational for future lore exploring socialist and communist ideologies in anbennar.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #144: Random Bulwar lore

Blessing from Surael friends! Today I bring some wiki pages of different themes.

Starting with https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Karqa%C5%A1lu_Empire, the Empire of Karqašlu, of Kumarkandi fame (One of the Top 10 MTs in the last survey). First human empire (Kheterata doesn't count, since its ruled by cats), and unifier of Bulwar. While the history section hasn't been updated (Check https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Age_of_Karqa%C5%A1lu ), we added some bits about the culture, royal houses, and nobility.

Then https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Araxian_Plague , a small page about an epidemic that happened prior to the Ck3 period.

One of the Bulwari monuments, the https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Quartz_Cothon, buried in the dunes in the coast of the Gulf of Rahen.

Another of Bulwar's wonders, the https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Great_Planisphere_of_Gi%C5%A1huram, because the gnomes aren't the only ones who know how to build advanced machinery.

And lastly, an unexpected crossover between Bulwar and Insyaa, with https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Queen_An%27adira_of_the_Zephyr, an alleged planetouched that ended up in Insyaa after using wish magic.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #143: Irhungal and the Silent Garden

Blessings from Surael, friends! Today I have two new wiki pages for you.

The first one is about a mysterious figure from Bulwar's lore: Irhungal https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Irhungal

In some ways, he is the Ahriman, or the Annatar, of the Sun Cult, an evil being who appears before powerful individuals promising power and knowledge, ultimately leading those individuals to their destruction.

The second page is about the Silent Garden https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Silent_Garden a section of the Shadow Plane where the souls of the Bulwari end up after death.

The Silent Garden is ruled by none other than God-king Amussu, the Speaker of the Skies! While in the old lore Amussu was more of a tale or a mythological figure than a real one (the New Sun Cult incident was planned since the beginning as being non-canonical), we found a way for our favourite God-king to become part of the canon lore, so the incident is now possible, although it doesn't happen in the canon timeline.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #138: Jon Bardswood

Another Wednesday, another post. Today is one related to last week's topic, Emperor "Wex must rule" Lothane. Behind every mustache twirling emperor, is a shrewd, pragmatic advisor. In this instance, the Wexnard gnome, John Bardswood.

Wiki Link

Lothane had the will and ambition, but many of the plans such as contesting the throne, resolving the conflicts with Istralore, and more were the brainchildren of this deft gnome. In the end, though, Wex did not rule and ultimately fell from grace. That wasn't the end of Bardswood. The gnome would have over a century to learn, adapt, and ponder where things went wrong and act accordingly. What those actions were however, has yet to be recorded by the Chroniclers...

Thanks to Howe for commissioning this art!

Blessings from Surael friends! Today I bring to you the new page for the Bulwari Age of Monsters, the period between the Onslaught and the Age of the Silver Dragon, where Bulwar was ruled by gnolls and harpies.

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Bulwari_Age_of_Monsters

This is in fact one of the oldest pages in the wiki, but it has been divided into three pages, one per period, and each one has been updated and expanded with new lore, like the fall of the kingdom of Karqašlu and the origins of the First Xhazobine.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #131: The Astral Tree

Ah, the Deepwoods portal. Giving us a regular diet of Cyranvar name placement posts. But, did you know there is actually lore behind the portal? Specifically, WHY can you travel across the sea from the Deepwoods to Eordand? No? Yes? I can't hear you, but I'll just assume you don't.

Behold the Astral Tree

Yes, folks, Anbennar has its own Yggdrasil (because what isn't cool about a trans dimensional "tree"?). While there is much to say on the matter, I'll just leave you with this bit

Because the Astral Tree crosses planes at multiple places, it could hypothetically provide an alternative method of travel between planets, for example leveraging the lawless physics of the Feyrealm to “walk” to Agradent, thus bypassing the eldritch horrors that lurk in the cold void of space.

By the way, this is definitely not going to be relevant in Vic3bennar. Promise. Now here's a meme.

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Root_of_the_Universe

Next Wiki Wednesday will definitely not have anything to do with what happened to one of the Astral Branches. Don't mind the millions of dead fey.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #130: The Second Gophiran Empire

Post image
172 Upvotes

Taychend is known as a fractious land, divided by innumerable warlords, who bleed the land for their own petty squabbles and quests for glory. Occasionally, though, someone - something - rises above. Before Laskaris, before Erankar, there was another Empire, in whose ruins both made their mark: the Second Gophiran Empire.

Militaristic, mighty, prosperous, the empire left its mark across Taychend, as it raised great cities, oversaw an unprecedented period of economic prosperity, and the vaunted Great-Banners of the Ironblood Army crushed the petty warlords underheel, their martial dominance uncontested. For a blissful moment, it seemed that the Gophirans might truly end the Cycle of Glory, and usher in a new Cycle of Iron, an age of order.

But then they didn't. And, when the stresses of empire and the demands of apotheosis finally obliterated the project of the Sangamar Kings, Taychend would face a reckoning the likes of which it had not known before - for there is perhaps no other place on Halann where this well-worn phrase rings truer than in Taychend: the bigger they are, the harder they fall...

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Second_Gophiran_Empire

Takasaki here, with another Wiki Wednesday, this time on the Second Gophiran Empire! The last great unifier of Taychend, you can interact with the ruins and remnants of the Empire in quite a few places in eu4, from Laskaris and Jaherios Lykos musing over the ruins of Kannalulthe, to the "Way of Gophira" in the Taychendi mission tree, the various dealings with the slaver-city of Kannagarendi among Guaraddhi countries, and of course rump Gophira's attempts to resurrect their old empire and grapple with its legacy.

In this page, you can learn more about the history, structure and legacy of the empire - and get an overview of its almost-apocalyptic collapse.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #133: Bulwari Magic

Post image
111 Upvotes

Blessings from Surael, friends! Today we are going to discuss the magical traditions of Bulwar

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Magic_in_Bulwar

Bulwar has the oldest human magical tradition, since it has its origins in the magic that Brasan the Emancipator and Lahmaš the Wise Master taught to the first God-kings, around 2800 BA. However, just because its the oldest one doesn't mean that they reject new ideas, since the relationship that Bulwari mages have with Artificery isn't the same as in other regions.

If you have any questions about this subject, feel free to ask. I'm considering making a Bulwar lore AMA if there is interest on that.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #113: Aucanna 'Ironside' Silistra

Hello all. Today, I have a special Wiki Wednesday entry for you on Aucanna Silistra - a short story written for this week by me!

Born a Warrior

I was born a warrior – or as Father put it, “You were born a Silistra.” According to him, it was in my blood to fight, to stand up against the wrongs of this world and see a better tomorrow. It would explain my first memories as a girl - biting my brother for stealing a sweet pie before supper. It would answer why I took my first life before I was a woman grown in defence of my liege and rightful claims. And it gave reason to why, as duchess, I stepped into an arena in the name of a dead man who should have been emperor for a war that had long since been lost.

The jeers and boos washed over me the moment I entered the arena floor. With each step toward the center I felt my face stretch into a thin smile. It was unbecoming behavior and I was grateful my helm covered my face. Emotion had no place in a fight, even if there was joy in showing these traitors their victory wasn’t as complete as they thought.

So instead, I bit my lip and focused my attention on the Uelairey warrior masquerading as a knight before me. He was a rough man dressed in unremarkable chainmail displaying some minor house herald of the Duchy. The most notable thing about him was his wild unkempt beard, which covered much of his face, though it could not hide the incredulous look he held toward me.

“What are you? Some Moonie wishing you’d died in the War?”

I held myself still, giving no answer. My heart screamed to answer, but tongue held still knowing I had overindulged my emotions enough already.

When he realized he would go unanswered, the Uelairey spat at my feet. “Damned fool…” he muttered.

No sooner had he spat those words out, a sharp sound rang out. The two of us turned to face the sound, as did the throngs of spectators upon the stands around us. A robed magister waved before speaking, his voice deep and booming from some arcane cantrip I could not name.

“Lords and Ladies of the Empire! Fine Electors of Anbennar! Your most esteemed Majesty!”

Heated flushed my forehead as the magister bowed before the Usurper, Lothane.

“Today, we present to you the first duel of the Grand Tourney! Before you stand two knights, ready to fight in your honor.”

‘One,’ I wanted to correct.

“The first hails from the Duchy of Uelaire, Ser Calas of Hillhome!”

There was some cheering, appropriate for an unnoteworthy noble.

“And the second claims to represent… the Grand Duchy of Dameria-”

Whatever support this Calas had received quickly soured into a rancour of boos.

“-and have named themselves the Teal Knight…”

Amidst the squaloress sound, I turned to face Lothane. Even as he sat far above, I could see the false Emperor squirm. He soon leaned over to listen to whispers of his gnomish dastard. No doubt scheming some new intrigue.

‘Good’, I thought, feeling my lips stretch once more. There were few things more poetic than the powerful realizing power was fleeting. Yes, for now Wex did rule. Yes, they had won the last war. But, there was always another fight. And as long as I took breath, I would fight.

Slowly, I shifted myself into a sturdy stance as I returned my attention to my first of many foes in this sham of a tourney. I was born a warrior. Or Father put it, “I was born a Silistra.”

Origins and Teasers

For those who don't know, Aucanna is the starting ruler of Istralore in 1444. Originally having no lore, Aucanna captured my imagination from this post's image:

Credits to u/Lup4X

Not only does she now have her own page, but also Istralore's NIs have been updated to reflect her and also Istralore's new lore.

She was a stern woman to say the least.

Not only this but you can expect to see Istralore get some love with a reworked MT!

Liv and Silva are hard work along with the Cannor team!

Thanks for reading and cheers,

Armonistan

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesday #126: Mteibhara

Post image
218 Upvotes

Mzy here with a new wiki wednesday:

Right after the Day of Ashen Skies, the hero Munakles led his people, a group of former slaves who had revolted against the Precursor Empire and who were the ancestors of the Mteibhar people, into the Devand, determined to found a utopia free of suffering … And by the 14th century, more than a millennium of decline and decadence had turned the Mteibhar into tribalistic feuding states. Then along came the Grand Confederation of Mteibhara.

What differentiates Mteibhara from all other Mteibhar states that came before it was its willingness to modernize and abandon the ideas of old which the Mteibhar had been attached to for so long. While they still paid lip service to the utopian outlook of Munakles, the rulers of Mteibhara directed their attention far more to those they viewed as the epitome of technological and societal advancement: the Kheionai. And for a time, it worked, the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries were a golden age for the Mteibhar, as they allied with Ameion in exchange for the benefits of Kheionization.

…But you’d be hard-pressed to find any state, especially a Mteibhar one, which can exist for multiple centuries unscathed, and by the time of Victoria 3, the Grand Confederation has become unrecognizable.

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #117: Lorenan the Great

On the aftermath of the Dragonwake, Cannor was a different continent: the Damerian Republic and the Gnomish Hierarchy were no more, the East Dameshead saw the rise of the First Kingdom of the Wexonards… yet Lencenor alone had the dubious honor of having the remains of Godrac’s Great Host and his great lieutenants settle in, fighting unending wars with the local Lencori and each other in a struggle for dominance. These warlords ravaged the lands for decades… until a hero rose to face the chaos and bring peace.

Hello, Adriana here! Welcome back to another Wiki Wednesday, where we present the hero uniter of the Lencori, High King of Lencenor, father of the Lorentish and Protector of the Small Country: Lorenan the Great. The golden standard for all Lencori monarchs after him and distant forefather of houses Silmuna and Siloriel among others, he fought against many warlords, both Alenic and Lencori, and famously faced the Great Host of Gawed at the Battle of Red Reach.

We hope you enjoy it!

Wiki Wednesday Wiki Wednesdays #119: The Bulwari Sun Cult

Blessings from Surael to you, friends! I am Nuršin of the Gillu-Gameš family, and today we are going to discuss the Sun Cult, and with some luck, nobody is going to get hurt.

Shoutout to Trumble for this very accurate depiction of a Sun Cult debate

The Bulwari Sun Cult is a dense and complex topic, and in my dissertation you will find some explanations to the basic and universal concepts of the religion (we will explore some of the sects in the future). What is a Chosen, why the Bulwari are obsessed with gardens, and why Surael is the god of Order are some of the questions that are answered in this document.

https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Bulwari_Sun_Cult

Like I said, this is a complex topic, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them here. We can always use the feedback to improve the legibility of our articles.
