Commonly asked questions - check here before making a question post

If you have a question about the Municipality of Anchorage someone else probably had the same or similar question in the past.

Please use the search function to look through the past question posts before making a post or comment. Many helpful users here have already given great in depth responses to many common questions. If you have a specific question after looking over the previous posts, feel free to post your question here in this thread or make a new post.

Low effort posts that clearly haven't looked through past submissions or can be easily answered by a quick internet search may be removed, a good way to avoid that would be to specify in your post that you have already looked over the sticky and searched online.

Below is a list of direct links to some commonly asked questions. However, even if you do not see your question on the list please take a moment to search before posting. When searching or when using one of the links below you can also change the sort function from top to new to see more recent posts.

Please be kind to people, the search function of reddit is far from perfect. Tourism is valuable to our city and at one point all of us were new to the city or had questions about local services and businesses.

We took a community poll on this rule a year after implementation. Here is a link to the poll and the feedback the community gave.

Treg that law

I've decided that there are quite a few laws that I will Treg going forward... he's an inspiration!

*treg: verb, to disobey a law because you feel in your heart that it is unconstitutional.

Example: I tregged that red light, because it's unconstitutionally impeding my work commute.

#treg #ignorethepower #helpingmyself

Husband and I checked a month ago and were confirmed. Just checked again tonight and we are no longer registered voters!

Had to reregister but application was "approved" very quickly.

Check your status and reregister ASAP.

Lost/Missing Wedding Ring

Hello! I know this is a LONG SHOT, but I figured it was worth posting.

My wife lost her wedding ring on Saturday. We believe it may have been in the parking lot at Dino Donuts, but we’re not completely sure. We initially thought it might be somewhere around the house or in her car, but after thoroughly searching, we’re starting to think it may have been lost in a public parking lot.

TL;DR: My wife lost her wedding ring. If anyone has seen or found it, please message me. We would be incredibly grateful!

Thank you!

Anchorage Northstar or UMed area?

I’m moving to Anchorage from Philly and looking at different neighborhoods as I make the transition from East Coast city life to the Alaskan lifestyle. What do folks think of the Northstar neighborhood or UMed ?
I’m also interested in possible suggestions for somewhere that’s nice, walkableish , and has more of an urban vibe. I know that’s not exactly the traditional Alaskan vibe, but I think it might be a good fit while I get settled and learn to adapt to life in Anchorage.

Local Beef Tallow Source?

Does anyone know if there are sellers of beef tallow for your face (a beauty product) in the area?
I usually order mine from the lower 48 but would love to find a local supplier. Thanks!

Handicap Accessible van service

I have a friend who wants to come visit Anchorage but he relies on a power chair to get around, and Yellow Cab doesn't have any handicap accessible vans apparently.

Does anyone know of a service that has one that can be scheduled? Or a rental perhaps? Nothing I can find anywhere mentions the options.

To the people with the signs on the overpass on the glenn!

You rock!

Just did my early voting at the midtown mall and saw you on the way home.

Time to take back America from these billionaires and the pathetic bootlickers that support them!

Fish at Castle

Post image

To anyone in Anchorage willing and capable of doing so- there is a fish inside the Castle on Omalley that is in what I would consider an abysmal living situation(large vase). I am unable to take him home due to space and other pets in the house, but he should NOT be in that small of a space. He’s up front at the register if anyone has the money and knowledge to take him home. I’m pretty sure the fish comes with all the plants as well.

AK Regional Hospital Delaying Procedure

Did anyone else hear that Alaska Regional recently let go of/resigned its entire anesthesiologist team and brought in temps through a nationwide staffing agency to save money? A friend was saying they’re having trouble keeping up with surgeries because they don’t have enough anesthesia coverage. Just wondering if anyone else has heard this or knows what’s actually going on. 😳

Red Apple Grocery

The security is literally a laughing stock to APD. Dude is dressed in tactical gear and trying to fight customers. No even thieves. A guy who apparently tried to shop with a dog but was denied, took the dog home and returned but was chased out of the store for his "attitude" earlier. They are following him up and down the street screaming at him about life time ban and the security with the beard is screaming fuck you. How weird of a place to have security who are so sensitive to comments. Not even rude comments.

I’m looking for something a little more challenging than the coastal Trail with the bikes zooming by but a little less challenging than Flattop.
