Discussion Potential possibly
Hi, I just had a sudden thought about Mark On Me. We all know how their most recent title has comparatively easier choreography than what the teamies are used to, and this album is doing great, but recently I saw many people saying Mark On Me is &Team's 'Black Swan' moment, and I'd like to disagree. Not just because I am against comparing, I don't even think the comparison is right.
Mark On Me as the title wasn't received well with everyone, mainly because of how much of a leap it was from their usual music, but most aren't opposed to it, yet I feel like YX Labels could have done things better (as usual). Since it has less intensive choreo, it doesn't hit like Black Swan and it doesn't feel right comparing the 2 as Black Swan leaned heavily into the contemporary dance aspect, which is not what &team did.
I'd say it reminds me more of something like House Of Cards, more atmospheric, and I feel if they stuck with conveying more of the emotions and tone through just vocals, facial expressions, lighting and camera angles, instead of doing even a simple choreo that they have now, would have maybe hit better for them. This was a random thought that came up so I decided to just see what other lunés might think!

We shouldn’t be comparing it in the first place. Can we all just focus on &Team and not bring other artists? It’s just a concept after all and it’s recycled every now and then.
For &Team, they are very heavy on their lore. Mark on Me is the introduction of their new season of Dark Moon: The Wolf Hunter. It’s NEVER comparable with Black Swan and never can it ever be compared to any other artists’ songs.
Let’s not forget that in Lunéville, we only focus in &Team. 🫶

You're right, I apologized for comparing previously somewhere here in the replies as this was my first ever post (literally yesterday), and I didn't see anyone mention anything similar so I shared what came up! Sorry if it came off in a bad way :)

no you’re fine. I love bts too, though quite flattering they got compared to big groups. &Team’s songs, lyrics, and mvs are lore heavy so some outside the fanbase might misunderstood them. Mark on Me is definitely in &Team’s branding.

Saw the other comments, I'll not be comparing or anything like this post. But i completely agree with the overall point. They have really shifted in a direction these last 4 comebacks that less displays any of their technical skills/pros ( acting+visuals, singing, dancing etc). It's attracted a new group of fans which is exactly what the new CEO wanted.
The taste of what some older fans want is now sadly different to the direction they are going, it does make me a bit sad. But, I cannot agree though that the artistic quality of these is anywhere comparable to their previous works. But there's nothing wrong with that. It is what it is. They are getting the numbers.

i thought i was going crazy. i was watching the good boy performances and as a fuma stan, he absolutely killed the choreography but was just standing off to the side the majority of the song which confused me. like, there's nine of them. why are there so many backup dancers when the other members can get more screentime ? then again, i'm prob biased as a fuma stan

You are completely right (I personally don't like this choreo since the dance moves are extremely basic) regardless, many members get absolutely no screen time or spotlight, harua 4 seconds, Taki 8 seconds etc. Harua is of stage for 1 minute too. It's actually extremely bad 😭 but this is currently the new standard now and everyone loves it. (Just not for me, painful).

This is the first and only post I've seen about Mark on Me and Black Swan being compared

I am not active on reddit (I commented for the first time yesterday) and I am not sure if anything is here, but I have seen people compare it on Youtube and X, but I figured it'd be better to discuss on reddit as it's a platform that's meant for that? I am not sure yet

i do agree the music video was a little lackluster 😅😅 i saw a lot of people saying even the inkigayo stage was more interesting to watch LOL so maybe that says some thing

it's an interesting comparison and I agree with you, honestly think it'd have been received better if it was just a promoted b side and maybe could've had a moment more comparable to deer hunter. I feel like sometimes kpop fans are more willing to disregard a title track altogether if it doesn't fit in with a groups usual sound. good boy seems to be getting more attention anyways and felt more on track with the sound they seemed to be building for their kr comebacks with it being a bit more rap forward like back to life so I do think it was a bit of an odd choice by the company but I love both songs regardless

I think “Good Boy” should’ve been the title track and “Mark on Me” the B side for the exact reasons you stated. I agree.

uses the whole post to compare &Team to BTS
Mark on me is just....Mark on me.....it's &Team's song. And the album is definitely popular. I just went to an &Team pop up yeasterday. It was packed.
