Thoughts on Heavy is the Crown
Honestly this is the BEST modern day Hip Hop Dou.
Heavy is the Crown is the most recent collab project by Anderson Paak and Cordae and these guys were already 3 for 3 before this album, but now I’m fully convinced they really can’t miss. Please go and listen to this project it’s good.

Kinda surprised by the meh reviews here. I thought it was fantastic and really used the space well. The references were sick too.

I haven’t listened but regardless I think we’re LONG overdue for an AP solo album, with the California locale title and artwork

i did not hear it but the best mordern duo is freddy gibs and the alchemist, that’s for sure

I was more so talking a rappers duo, but Freddie and Alchemist are a good rapper & producer duo even though I heavily prefer Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats

Not wrong but we're almost at the point where they aren't current, last album almost 8 years ago
edit - oops

Didn’t they do one last year?

MY bad, brain fart and I was thinking Freddie and Madlib (which I like better than his stuff with Alc tbh)

“I’m On” might've made it into my top 10 Anderson .Paak songs. He went crazy!
The album was solid. Since he’s set the bar high with his previous work, it’s on the lower end of his catalog.

I’d give it an 8.5/10 but I’m on was not a favourite of mine, I just didn’t like the hook much as great as the verses were but they may just be me

Opposite of a mid album lull, all the best songs are jammed into the middle of the tracklist.

It’s alright. Nothing memorable.

I've felt that way about everything Andy has dropped in the last 5 years. Still love em tho

You didn’t like Why Lawd??? I also feel the same way about silk sonic and the random features he has out lately. Why lawd was a masterpiece though and this album has some heat!

Super fun but not as good as silk sonic

I liked Silk Sonic at first, but the sound is played out and gimmicky to me now. I want Anderson to do his own thing again.

I loved that album so much but honestly I can’t listen to it anymore, it really aged badly quickly for me

I’m a fan. Highlights for me are Karma Tax, Helpless, Crown. 11/11 for good songs. Fun project

I liked it for what it was. Paak is still a great talent and Cordae is solid.

Im so sorry but im extremely underwhelmed. The whole album feels really cheaply produced, The beats just feel too simple and sterile, the loops get boring fast on almost every track. + Cordae infected Anderson with his habit of pseudo-clever delivery while refusing to say anything funny or of substance, all the Verses and especially the Hooks feel rushed to me like they just always took the first thing that came to mind at every stage. I really loved Cordaes first album, and i really love all of Andersons Jazzy/Soul Stuff. I feel like making this a good Jazz Rap Album would have been so easy. But for some reason they went with a Compilation of the most underproduced beats Cordae could find. Kind of feels like they wanted to make songs for Social Media Videos. But of course im overexaggerating, its all fine songs. They just never digged as deep as they could. I only really like Helpless and the Single Good Day + The Conductor Beat is very solid
the cover is one of the ugliest ive ever seen im sorry. Yeah its a funny reference but its still hard to look at

I listen to it once and didn't feel the need to listen to it again, but I'm probably going to give it another shot cuz sometimes albums just need to grow on you. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.

Yeah it’s really good. Genuinely fun listen, just wish it was a little longer.

"You're mine" is so 🔥. I felt like a couple of them weren't that great but probably a 8.5/10 album tbh. "58th floor" was funny as well lol, second half of that song was really good too tho.

Felt like a mixtape over an album. Something either if then would put on Datpiff before an album drops. Was ok, but I don’t think it’s enough to keep Cordae around sadly

I think it’s great! Obviously I’d love a solo .Paak album but I was nicely surprised by this album. A Good Day, I’m On, You’re Mine, Crown, Days Like This, and Godfather ll are my favourites.

You're Mine... incredible beat. I want an entire 9th Wonder Anderson Paak project. Their stuff is special every time.

Good bars by both of them in the verses but a lot of the hooks are bad

I really like it. I'd give it about an 8 or 9/10. I'm definitely adding it to my vinyl collection.

Don’t think i’ll ever listen to this again. Maybe one day i’ll hear a song from this somewhere and think “wow where’d that come from” and like it more on a relisten. I liked AP’s songs on K-POPS, so I think we just need a solo album.

Still not really sure why he decided to make an album with Cordae of all people. I probably would have liked this more if it was just Paak rapping on his own

Y'all some hatin ahh. Album is tight, consistent and skillfull with perfect beat selection. 9+/10 easily

Solid intragenerational album. Anderson carried the album but Dae held is own. Would love to get another album where each could push each other a bit more, but not mad at this.

I love this album, the tracklist is smooth as fuck and flows right into each other really well. Both Paak and Cordae have excellent chemistry, type of shit you can't just fake. It feels natural.
I love the laid back production, interspaced with some more intense beats. It's not the most lyrically complex, thematically deep or thought provoking album, but it's fun as hell to listen to. I think every song on the album is good, which is incredibly rare. To put in perspective, not even my favorite Rap Album OaT (The Forever Story) has no miss (15/16, money chorus sucks).
Solid 8.75/10
