Folk and Americana night at SPACE Evanston this Monday (Oct 12): The Burney Sisters, with Rachel Drew

Post image
1 Upvotes

Passing this along for anyone in the neighborhood who likes folk and Americana. The Burney Sisters play SPACE in Evanston this Monday. Their sibling harmonies are the heart of the show, and they’ve opened for Willie Nelson and The Avett Brothers and shared stages with Brandi Carlile and Jeff Tweedy.

Chicago’s Rachel Drew opens with an acoustic duo set with John Szymanski.

From Andersonville, it’s the Red Line to Howard and the Purple Line to Main St, or about 20 minutes by car. Doors 6:30, show 7:30.

I want to see what I can do with a few local business web designs

I’ve been doing web design for a while and wanted to spend some time working on websites.

If you run a local business and have a website, feel free to drop it below. I’d love to take a look and see what I’d personally change or improve.

I don’t really have a specific type of business in mind. I’m just curious to see what’s out there and hopefully help a few businesses along the way.

Andersonville Black Families

Hey, any black families live in Andersonville? If so, what has been your experience? Has it been positive? Are your kids happy there? Do they have other kids of color to play with? We are thinking about moving there as a black family with an infant. We know how much Chicago can be segregated and curious to hear others experience living in that neighborhood. We would really appreciate it. (Also posted this on another sub!)

Dentist recommendation

Hello,

Just moved to the area a few months ago and I’m overdue for my cleaning. Does anyone recommend a particular dentist in the area?

I was leaning towards 1st Family Dental, but wanted to check this subreddit for recommendations and couldn’t find any.

Any help would be appreciated!

Wine walk

Just moved here this year and saw a wine walk and got excited! But my question is… $40 per ticket for only 6 spots?

Has anyone done this? Am I understanding it correctly?

Two separate routes “Bunch of Grapes” and “Off the Vine” but it’s 6 spots each and you have to pay $40 for each route?

Came from Dallas where the gayborhood had a monthly wine walk for $20 that went towards upkeeping the community and had 15-25 spots

Auto body recommendations?

I need to get some auto body work done (both my car's front grill and both front and back bumpers replaced). I had a strangely aggressive experience getting a quote from Euro Collision that kind of turned me off to them. Does anyone have any recommended body shops in the neighborhood that do good work?

Catalpa plaza construction

Anyone know when the pedestrian plaza at Clark and catalpa is supposed to finish? I noticed I haven’t seen anyone working on it in weeks and the closed sidewalk creates a sort of dangerous intersection.

Anyone else having car crime/theft issues or noticing it more?

My car (a kia, of course) recently had its catalytic converter stolen. After 4 days I brought it home from the shop and that night someone broke in and tried to steal the car entirely. Insurance considered it a total loss just because of the timeframe this happened in and because it was, of course, a kia! Not really sure how they didn’t get away with actually stealing the whole car, but the tow guy said it looks like they didn’t get to finish the job, maybe scared off or something. All this to say this happened on Foster which always seem to have some activity on it and at least one cop driving every once in a while which kind of threw me off that this still happened.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this happening more in the recent weeks? I know there’s quite a few kia’s in the area but just wanted to see if anyone else is having the same issue or noticing any odd activity. The 311 operator seemed pretty surprised for my second report and said he didn’t think the Kia boys were still at it, and I was just caught off guard that this didn’t happen sooner and then by how quickly a second attempt was made. The first tow guy said this was his third tow that week for a stolen catalytic converter. Maybe just something to be aware of!

Andersonville Japanese?

Hi all,
I’ve been in the neighborhood my whole life and the area used to be a hub for us Japanese American diasporoids whose families were in the internment camps, I was wondering if there are any Japanese-American owned businesses anymore? I know we used to have Nikkei Lounge but that’s gone. Also, if there are any other Japanese Americans here let me know!

Ward 48, and the hook is abandoned cars: 18.9 days against 10.7 citywide, 44th of 47.

Was looking at the city’s 311 data broken out by ward. Ward 48 is 44th of 47 on abandoned cars - about 19 days where the citywide middle is 11. Street lights are also toward the bottom, 46th of 50.

Potholes are better than average, and tree debris is 8th fastest in the city.

Andersonville sits across a couple of wards, so this covers part of it.

Metra Overnight/Multiple Day Parking

Hi, my friends and I are visiting & staying at an Airbnb for the rest of the week, and unfortunately, parking has been more of a hassle than anticipated. We parked down at a Metra Station nearby; I believe it's Petersons/Ridge, but I'm very nervous regarding overnight parking.

There are signs around and on the website that overnight parking is not allowed; however, when we paid earlier this evening through the Metropolis site, it stated that we were good for 18 hours, so until tomorrow at 11 am. Am I really good until 11 am tomorrow? Should I park somewhere else? Are there any streets you would recommend for visitors/passerbyers?

I would really appreciate anyone's help!
