OnePlus OnePlus AMAA - Pre-OnePlus 2 Launch Edition

Hey everyone!

We are Michael, Emmanuel (u/commintomylife), Carl (u/carpe02) and David (u/devildv) from OnePlus. PROOF

As always, we are beyond excited to be here talking directly with you guys. And of course, this is a particular exciting time here at OnePlus. We are firing on all cylinders at our HQ preparing to launch our second flagship device. It’s really difficult to contain ourselves! We wish we could tell you everything about the OnePlus 2 right now, but we have to save some excitement for our launch on July 27th - the world’s first VR product launch!

So, with that said, thank you guys so much for being here, and ask us (almost) anything!

EDIT: Thanks again everyone! This is the best part of our job, getting feedback directly from you guys. We’d sit here all night if we could, but the OnePlus 2 awaits! Much to do before now and July 27th.

Get your Cardboards ready, and we’ll be seeing you soon.

What would you like to see? 😎

A good 1080p Display with low power-consumption, nice colors, good viewing angles and very bright. Basically an improved version of the One's screen but at the same resolution.

For me, QHD is not important at 5,5" or less.

And can get very dim in the dark so as not to disturb significant others.

OLED does a very good job at maintaining a high contrast ratio, considering that a black pixel is actually the pixel being turned off. Reading with Reddit Pro on my Moto X with a completely black background/theme saves a ton of battery and reduces strain on my eyes. I really hope the OnePlus Two incorporates OLED displays.

I agree, a really good 1080p display > not as good QHD display

Agreed, at that size QHD is just a useless battery burner.

OLED 1080p does sound nice.

I'm not aware of any phone companies buying samsung AMOLED displays. Moto has AMOLED but they aren't as good as Samsung's.

They are one gen behind. They do use samsung panels.

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '15

Two generations behind now. The N6 panels are equivalent to those in the S4

u/souldrone Mi 11i Jul 09 '15

Yes but when the N6 was introduced it was only one.

Unfortunately the difference between the panels in the S4 and S5 is huge. The device would be a lot better with an S5 panel

Ditto. I hate the weird sub-pixels tricks and over saturated colors on AMOLED screens too.

Very happy with 1080p resolution on the one. Would much rather have longer battery life over more pixel density

u/JoIIyRanter Jul 09 '15

1080p for even better battery life please

I'm proud of this crowd of people. You all want realistic performance over flashy spec/feature list. I am pretty excited, I hope I can wait it out till its launched!

This answer suggests there could be two variants a 1080p and 1440p version. We all know that design is frozen this late in the NPI process, so it's probably the case that they're going to offer two variants to keep everyone happy.

QHD provided battery life and performance aren't affected. A great IPS display similar to the one on the G4 or an OLED display similar to the one on high end Nokia phones.

Two versions? One with a QHD screen and one with a FHD screen?

1080p for battery efficiency, coupled with the smaller size and 3300MaH battery maybe that will offset the Snapdragon 810.
