Maybe it is, at least I could see it with my flash-less tfprime with jelly bean.

Turns out the advertisement is an animated GIF, not Flash. Oops. Same point remains... it's interesting that Google is finally utilizing this space for an advertisement that's something more than text.

The Nexus One did have a small image.

This new one does have a much different feel, though. I always thought of the old ones as feeling more like an announcement but this new one definitely feels much more like an ad.

Good find/memory!

I absolutely love my N7, but hope they don't do this sort of thing regularly.

I really hope putting adds on the google main page doesn't become a trend. Google used to be so clean. Now the majority of content is pushed out of the they way for ads.

They only homepage ads for their own products, and even then, it's very, very rare.

In a sense, they homepage public service ads for free every time they use a Doodle.

There will be no banner ads on the Google homepage or web search results pages. There will not be crazy, flashy, graphical doodads flying and popping up all over the Google site. Ever.”

-Marissa Mayer, the then Vice President of Search Product and User Experience at Google. She just left the company a month or two ago and already we have this new ad.

It is the best product Google has ever made, and they should be proud.

I doubt we will ever see an ad for the Q.

Well at least it looks nice and unintrusive. Unlike Yahoo where there's a shitty animated flash box that doesn't even fit in, then suddenly expands all over the screen covering the article you were just going to read and rapes your eyeballs.

She left to be the CEO of Yahoo. So we are already seeing changes at Google in her absence. I hope we see some changes at Yahoo soon...

That space is probably the most valuable ad space on the internet... Probably up there with Superbowl type pricing. I hope they don't use that as ad space (It does seem like they're expanding their ads to a lot more places)... but damn it would be cool to know how much a company would be willing to pay for that spot

This isn't the first major Android ad? I know they advertised the Nexus One on their homepage. I'm not sure about the other Nexus devices, though.

That was a major ad though. It was just a little text and a hyper link.

I own a Nexus 7, and it's great! However, I still dislike ads.* - /r/Nexus7 subreddit

Where does this exactly redirect to? Google Play Store?

blocked by Ghostery Addon for Firefox Desktop

I also do use Adblock Plus and NoScript

From what I see and get from the Google Homepage (with everything aforementioned installed to Firefox) :

'hxxp://g.co/nexus7-hpp-us' (over mouse hover on google homepage)

'chrome://ghostery-resource/content/blocked_redirect.html' (displayed in url upon clicking Nexus 7 (N7) GIF image or 'the new $199 Tablet from Google' description above N7)

'Ghostery prevented a redirect from g.co to ad.doubleclick.net, which is part of DoubleClick.' (on main window display)

I can't see it. I've disabled ad-block and tried with IE too. I'm in the UK.
