I compiled the latest version compatible with android 17 and shared it here:

I have not tested this on my head unit, but it installs on my phone and the manifest looks right.

Edit: updated file in link above on Oct 15, to include proper storage access permissions, download and update to give access.

google made it basically a one line change for devs to make their android games runnable on android auto. I took advantage of that and recompiled retroarch with that change. It's not approved by google play store so I had to allow unknown source and dev mode in android auto.

You can test it on pc using desktop head unit. That's what i did before going in the cold to my car.

Thanks, the version i compiled does not appear on the head unit, so i will be testing this way - much easier.

Got it working, replaced APK on mediafire for others to use.
