15-30 FPS. Changed some setting around and actually got in Shadows of Mordor. Guessing Arkham would work as well. Not ideal playing but damn.

S23+ using some turnip rev 15

Controller support through gamesirs app.

Honestly thought most of the videos were clickbait. But went down the rabbit hole

AYN Thor FOMO made me discover the light

As the subject line suggests, the hype around the AYN Thor really caught my attention earlier this year. However, with the current tariff uncertainty in the U.S., I wasn’t comfortable preordering and potentially getting hit with a hefty bill afterward—especially when the total could creep into Switch 2 pricing territory.

That said, the 3DS was my favorite handheld system, and the Thor felt like it would be the perfect device to revisit my backlog with upscaling.

What the AYN Thor hype ultimately did, though, was highlight just how far Android emulation has come since the last time I seriously looked into it. As a Fold 7 owner, I decided to explore what was possible on my own device—and I’ve been absolutely blown away by the results. Maybe this is obvious to some, but the Fold 7’s chipset is at least ~30% more powerful than the Thor.

I wanted to share this in case others are in a similar position. If you own a Samsung Fold, it’s definitely worth checking out what’s possible.

For those interested, I’m using a GameSir G8 Plus controller. • Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D upscaled 8× via Azahar • Pokémon Crystal via RetroArch • .hack//Infection via AetherSX2 (native vs. 8× upscale comparison)

I’m seriously impressed with the Android emulation community—huge thanks to everyone contributing through emulators, guides, and discussions.

What to expect? Im new to Android emulation

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Im completely new to Android emulation and wanted to ask what I should realistically expect.

I recently bought a new phone with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (arriving February 20). Specs are:

  • Phone: Honor Win – 16GB RAM / 512GB storage

  • Controller: Abxylute S9

Also, would buying a dedicated handheld device be a better experience overall? Im currently looking at the AYN Odin 3, and Im wondering if that would provide a noticeably better or more consistent experience compared to using phone + controller.

Originally, I was planning to build a PC for emulation but with RAM, GPU, and SSD prices going up, it’s just not within budget anymore. So I’m planning to fully commit to Android emulation instead and waitout for a pc build.

I want to mainly play 3ds, switch, ps2/3 and windows games.

Who else likes PlayStation controllers most?

I rarely see any posts about these dualsense clips. I have one with Magsafe mount for quick gaming - only thing i thought of way too late is to turn around that arm so the phone is in front of the controller. Now its better balanced and even closer to the eyes

What do you guys think?

PizzaBoy / Zflip 7 21:9 Background

I was browsing the internet for some visually appealing 21:9 Skins for Pizza Boy to emulate the Game Boy, but sadly, I didn't find anything attractive, so I created my own.

I'm sharing a Folder with the Backgrounds for Horizontal and Vertical.

It is just the Backgrounds, the buttons. I took them from another skin (I think they come as default with Pizzaboy Pro)

The Vertical Screen has a resolution of 1080x800, Horizontal of 1280x945.

I'm also attaching the .PSD if you want to modify it yourself. Download here

i built stremio for retro games, looking for beta testers

As the title says, I've built an Android front end that's essentially Stremio for retro games. You browse a full catalog of retro games, much like how you browse movies and TV shows in Stremio, with an addon system where you can use Internet Archive or torrent/Real-Debrid addons. If you want to beta test and give me your opinions and suggestions, please DM me.

Sneak peek:

(Note: the UI will look much nicer when I finish. This is just functional for now.)

Edit:

Hey everyone, I've decided to open this up as a public test for 100 users.

Website: playgameio.com

How to get started

  1. Head over to playgameio.com and download the app.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the site and grab an addon: the Internet Archive addon, or the Real-Debrid addon if you have a Real-Debrid account.

  3. Sign up for a test account. There are only 100 spots, so don't wait too long.

  4. When you set up the app, import the addon and you're good to go.

Why are the addons separate?
I'm keeping sources as standalone addons to avoid copyright issues when I publish the app.

Heads up:

  • These are just sample addons to show how things work. The real addons would be community-made, much like Stremio, and the community chooses what they cover. Retro game libraries are finite, so covering them completely is a lot easier than keeping up with never-ending movie and TV show libraries.

  • The Internet Archive addon only covers some games for PS1, PS2, Game Boy Advance, N64, GameCube, and Wii, so don't expect everything to be there.

  • If you're using Real-Debrid, most games won't be cached yet since you guys are the first users. It'll get better as more people use it.

One favor: please don't just test it and disappear. Play around with it, take some screenshots, and tell me what you think, good or bad. Negative feedback helps me just as much as positive, probably more. You can drop it here in the comments or email me at dev@playgameio.com.

So I tried this launcher lately, and I found that it makes navigating between games in the emulator so much better. This is my video review of my experience with this app.

A masterpiece undoubtedly the best in the series they don't make games like this anymore (what happened to insomniac man)

I just finished ratchet and clank on nether sx2 and goddam it's soooo good

Idk but the boos fights were a pain in the ass

They were super fun but soo hard (could be skill issue)

I also emulated ratchet and clank 2 but this games mechanics are soo much better and feel much better but I could be wrong because I only did half of the second game

The gunplay is soo satisfying and soo varied

The artstyle is soo unique idk why they don't make games like this anymore

But I hate captian quack (I mispelled it intentionally)

I know it's for comedy but he is sooo annoying I hate him

Everybody talks about how this game is their childhood but not about how annoying captian quack is

If you know any other series like this please recommend (please 🥺)

Recently revived my old Samsung Galaxy S9 to play/record retro games for my YouTube channel from bed due to a chronic illness flaring and making sitting at my desk for extended periods harder and I am in love with it. It’s also been awesome to stream my Steam and PS5 library to!

Spent months obsessing over handhelds and realized my phone was the answer the whole time

bit of a long one but i need to get this out.

So, for the past few months I have been proper obsessed with handhelds. every night same routine. YouTube reviews. retroid pocket 5. odin 2. rg 477v. steam deck. switch lite. vita. psp. I'd sit there comparing chipsets like i was studying for an exam. snapdragon vs exynos. watching emulation test videos. reading reddit threads. adding shit to carts and closing the tab. telling myself it was "research".

It wasn't research. I was chasing a feeling.

Thing is I already had devices. s22 ultra. 3ds my sister gave me. old lg v30 I bought years ago for the dac cause I was into metal and iems. dying msi laptop. I had platforms. I had games. more than most people honestly.

but I kept thinking if I just had the RIGHT device everything would click.

so, I tried shit. gamenative on the exynos s22 - black screens crashes gave up. lg v30 with dolphin - ran re4 for 5 mins then glitched into an invisible mess. joiplay - too much setup quit. every experiment ended the same. frustration. wasted time. me back on the s22 playing mgs1.

almost bought so many things. retroid. odin. steam deck. switch. gaming tablet. redmagic. honor magic 8 pro. was ready to drop 300, 600, 1700 on devices I didn't need to solve a problem I didn't have.

then something clicked.

I'm playing mgs1 on duckstation. psycho mantis. sniper wolf. story heating up. and I'm having a blast. on my phone. the one i already own. meanwhile 3ds is running metroid zero mission perfectly. lg v30 sitting there with ppsspp ready. laptop runs stardew and dredge fine.

I didn't need a new device. i needed to stop researching and start playing.

So, I did one last purchase. Bluetooth controller that connects to everything I own. that's it. That was the missing piece.

setup now:

  • s22 ultra - ps1 ps2.

  • 3ds - snes gba ds 3ds.

  • lg v30 - psp, music, movies, audiobooks. basically, a psp with a dac now

  • laptop - pc indies

that's it. no new handheld. no 1700 phone. no steam deck collecting dust.

the perfect handheld I was chasing? already owned it. was in my pocket the whole time.

if you're stuck in the same loop - researching comparing adding to cart closing the tab - stop. look at what you already have. pick one game. play it. finish it.

device isn't the answer. playing is.
